About this project
NEW: Read the first thirteen pages of the script for free below:
A new neighbor arrives. You’re curious, and that’s only natural. Maybe it’s his charming demeanor. Maybe it’s his flawless and devoted wife. Maybe it’s his years in prison, convicted for first degree murder. Maybe.
It is the perfect mystery for Aden, a fallen from grace reporter, whose career was spent playing advocate to a few devils. He sees in Seth something else: A released convict who may not be the innocent victim he's playing.
But in this politically correct neighborhood, Aden is the only one asking any questions. Soon his idle investigating stirs a cat and mouse game between the two men—a game neither may survive.
IS PERSONAL DEMONS GOING TO BE A GOOD FILM?
Our team is confident in the story we want to tell. We have fallen in love with the script, these characters, and the message of Personal Demons. We think the trailer gives you a sense of the potential we all see. The film's production will be comprised of a strong team of American Film Institute graduates and a group of committed actors.
If you need more convincing, why not check out Adam Cosco's demo reel below:
WHY SHOULD I HELP?
The reason we need your help is because in the hands of Hollywood, Personal Demons will no doubt be watered-down, and we need to ensure that this provocative tale remains as shocking on the screen as it is on the page.
There is great importance in films that tell moral tales, (Good vs. Bad, Heroes vs. Villains) However, it's equally important to make films where the line between good and evil is unclear. In shedding light on the darkness, we find truth, clarity and insight. Our film is controversial, but it also has something important to say about the human condition, the search for truth, and ultimately, hope.
HOW'S THE SCRIPT?
Here is what a reader from the Bluecat Screenplay Competition had to say about the script for Personal Demons:
“Personal Demons has an extremely compelling main character – his gruff attitude towards social interactions allows him to say and do things we only wish we might. The scenes between Aden and Seth are tense and full of subtext, reminding this reader of Eli Sunday and Daniel Plainview in There Will Be Blood.
Every scene pushes the conflict into deeper territory, and the best scenes, like the party at the midpoint, add about three more conflicts to the mix in a single encounter. Personal Demons has a fantastic act three, incorporating all the elements, characters, and flaws from act one’s quality set-up and paying them off in extremely cinematic ways. It's paced well, structured perfectly, and gripping with that inevitable sense that proper story crafting can give you.”

CAN WE MAKE PERSONAL DEMONS FOR $100,000 ?
We are asking for $100,000 because we know it is the absolute minimum amount we could shoot the film for. Every cent will be put into the film's budget. Your money will be used for camera packages, production design, or simply to ensure that we have the right amount of time it takes to strive for perfection.
Our trailer is an indication of the tone we’re aiming for with this thriller. If it captured your attention, it’s only a small taste of what we’ll bring to the table, it was made for $5,000 in three days. Imagine what this team could do if we had a real budget.
It's simple: If the trailer for Personal Demons looks like a film you’d like to see, why not donate some money, and make it a movie you can see.
Risks and challenges
If we reach our goal, and make the film, it still doesn't guarantee we will get a theatrical release. Distribution is always in limbo until the film gets acclaimed by festivals around the world. Our goal is to submit Personal Demons to Sundance, Cannes, Venice and other major festivals.
If getting a traditional release fails, we will utilize an online distribution model. Maybe we’ll take a page from Louis CK’s book and charge a nominal fee while hosting Personal Demons ourselves.
It should also be stated that, if the project got funded, we would start pre-production right away. We're already ahead of the game because we have a partial cast and crew in place. We even have a few suburban neighborhood locations ready to be utilized.
REWARDS FINE PRINT
► The venue of our premiere at the American Film Institute is subject to change.
► Please give us at least 24 hours to send you the password to access the script. We don’t have a professional emailing service in place, it’s going to be members of our team messaging you directly.
► We plan on partnering with a reputable company to burn our Blu-Ray disks, but if the films physical production is delayed, this will have an effect on our ability to get these out within the allocated time. We anticipate mailing the Blu Rays ten months after production begins.
► For the $4,000 and $5,000 awards that have you hiring members of our team as cinematographer or director, please let us know your anticipated shoot time well in advance so we can block off our schedule.
► The reward for executive producer may be shared with other investors who contribute the same amount, or more. Therefore, your name might appear alongside other investors before the film’s title.
We want to be as transparent as possible. Making a film requires collaboration; it’s like trying to get three hundred people to harmonize Bohemian Rhapsody all at once. There are many factors that can delay production. But this isn't our first barbecue, and we have a team of talented people that will make sure we bring this dream to the screen.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
I've been asked that before, and the simplest way to describe the difference is to say thet PERSONAL DEMONS is a "front line paranoid neighbor movie." In films like DISTURBIA and REAR WINDOW it's all about the distance, the peering from ones bedroom into the night. PERSONAL DEMONS is all about interaction, these two neighbors engage in conversation, they are friends, but each secretly suspects that the other is hiding a secret. The other difference is the presence of the internet in PEROSNAL DEMONS, these characters spend much longer staring at what's written about them in online forms then they do staring out windows. But don't take my word for it, read the script, believe me, you won't be citing DISTURBIA once you read how this all unfolds.
How will you manage the budget since it is 5 to 10 times the budget that you are credited for in past projects?
This is actually inaccurate; THE MUSHROOM SESSIONS actually cost half as much as we are asking for here. But, the basic answer to your question is that I will hire one of the best line producers I know, some of whom have worked for the likes of Michael Mann and Martin Scorsese. Since they are also close friends, they would be willing to work for a significantly cut rate. I have no doubts they will be able to manage our money.
If you are sadly cut from the film, you will still be rewarded an exclusive extended cut of the film that features your scene. In addition to that, we will hold a screening of the film in your hometown theatre, or even your living room with friends of this extended cut (if you live far away, we will use Goggle hangouts to watch the film together) All of this just so you know we appreciate you.
