Capn's Hoard: A pirate dice game
Race to collect treasure from a sunken galleon in this relaxed and exciting dice game! (Perfect if you like slamming down dice cups!)
Pledge amount is £2.00 not £2.50 as in video!
HOW THE GAME WORKS
The game is a simple "i roll - you roll" system (or "i slam - you slam" if your slamming the cup like we do!) .
- Each player gets a number of rolls to try and achieve a "full hand" which comprises of their ship, captain, crew and treasure map. (as you roll these you fill in the respective sections of the ship from left to right with a dry wipe marker or cross them off your scroll).
- Players who roll their hand in the first turn are allowed a special bonus.
- After you have a full hand you begin to roll for loot, each turn you can bank less dice, so you must collect as many as possible.
- Unfortunate players may suffer a mutiny if they're not careful, losing half their loot!
- It is easy to play many games in a row and tiny competitions build as you try to fight the fate of the dice.
- A whole game takes mere minutes and is oddly riveting as you slam down your dice cup, get sneaky bonuses or suffer a crippling mutiny!
WHAT IS CAPN'S HOARD?
Capn's Hoard is a relaxed but exciting dice game based on the real historical pirate gambling game "ship, captain, crew".
It is the first non wargame from Paint.Play.Enjoy and it is intended as a quick beer and pretzels game, the kind of game you play whilst the group warms up for a good night of board gaming.
The game is also perfect for playing in your rpg tavern or bar as the DM sets up the next encounter!
A game takes ten-fifteen minutes to play, so many games can be played consecutively easily.
HOW THE GAME WAS CREATED
In 2016 i had to craft a quick present for a friend. I decided to focus on our mutual interest...pirates!
With my previous knowledge of the game "Ship, Captain, Crew" i took to creating a new variant with a bit more panache.
By introducing a game board, a colourful back story and a simple "loot" mechanic i managed to develop a very fun game. After a weekend of rigorous play-testing i declared the game complete enough to gift to my friend - he adored the present and so born was "Capn's Hoard".
After months of sitting on a shelf i found time here and time there to continue working on it, drafting up a gorgeous and simplistic set of rules and we extensively play tested the game. During this time we enjoyed much cup slamming, mutiny brewing and loot salvaging fun!
Capn's Hoard takes place in the Caribbean in the 16th century.
Word of a sunken Spanish galleon has reached your ears.
Life is never easy in the golden age of piracy and the information has also drifted in the direction of other pirates.
Now the players race to prep their ship, find a captain, crew and the treasure map before they struggle to salvage as many barrels of loot as they can from the sinking ship!
CASUAL PLAY VS COMPETITIVE PLAY
The game can be played casually as mentioned before (during games night) or it can also suit a more intimate and tense gambling style.
Two friends, some beers or soft drinks and a few quid, It is more than easy enough to setup wagers -
"I bet i get full sail on my next game"
"I bet you i get more loot than you"
"Player with full hand first takes the kitty"
There are many options. Gambling rules will not be written into the actual game but the possibility is definitely there.
THE GAME BOARD
The game board is a hand drawn (black ink) project which has been detailed with drawings and piratey objects. The board incorporates everything you need to play on the move.
Simply print one and stick it in a plastic wallet, then you can use it again and again.
Each game board has slots for you to mark when you achieve your hand (Ship, Captain, Crew and Treasure map slots) as well as 36 empty treasure barrels in the hold for you to colour in as you collect your loot from the sunken galleon.
WHY WOULD WE LIKE YOUR SUPPORT?
Capn's hoard has been two years in the making and it hasn't been released yet as we wanted to iron out all the kinks before it was. We could have released an under prepared product but that is something we want to leave behind (The errata for GGA proved that there was much more work to be done than we realised)
The money from this campaign goes directly into the business (our parent business EZPainter) to pay for the time we have dedicated to the system and to recoup some of the invested resources.
With any excess funds we will have at our disposal the extra capability to develop future games such as our system generic bar brawling game which is next in line!
Risks and challenges
We have provided and fulfilled two Kickstarters in the past.. During these previous ventures we experienced only minimal issues and they where all physically related issues (mainly postage) which we will very unlikely experience with this KS due to the minimal physical components to manage.
EVERYONE WHO PLEDGES FOR A PDF WILL RECEIVE it at the project completion - even before we receive our funds from you!
