About this project
Ballots, Bullets and Scandal… anything goes in the race to the White House! Get ready for a merciless duel of intrigue and deceit!
Outlaws – Last Man Standing is an intense 2 player game designed by Jeremy Pinget. In this political Mexican stand-off, you take on the role of a Governor in the Wild West attempting to outmanoeuvre their opponent and win the election by any means necessary.
Illustrated by Arnaud Demaegd, your Governor and his loyal supporters each have unique abilities which can be used to defeat your rival in one of three ways:
Outlaws is a presidential race where every vote counts. The Governor with the most votes when the election takes place wins. But it isn’t called the Wild West for nothing - anything could happen by election day!
Shady characters are everywhere in the West, and the rich and powerful aren’t above hiring them to do their dirty work. If a Hitman can eliminate the opposing governor with a well-placed shot, well, dead men can’t be President, it’s as simple as that.
Luckily, in a time of lawlessness there are still those that uphold justice. If a Sheriff can foil an assassination attempt and arrest the Hitman, his employer’s reputation will be left in tatters. A scandal will destroy a man just as surely as a bullet.
By moving your characters around, your aim is to discreetly discover where different items and characters are located, without revealing too much to your rival in the process…or at least, nothing that you don’t want them to know.
As the plot thickens and you locate your opponent’s key pieces you’ll be able to decide how you wish to take them down: Ballots, Bullets or Scandal…
- An intense 2 player game
- Small price, big gameplay.
- A wealth of replayability as you generate new strategies.
- An authentic Wild West setting imagined and illustrated by Arnaud Demaegd
- Memory aid tokens for players that want a strategic experience without the memory aspect.
- Up to 4 players with 2 box sets!
In Outlaws, characters are set up hidden from your opponent in two rows of eight, facing each other, with a row of tokens in the middle.
Normally, each character interacts with the standees and tokens directly in front of them. However, some abilities also allow you to affect characters adjacent or diagonal to you, so positioning is important!
The Saloon: Two of your characters will also be placed face up in the Saloon. There, they are visible to your opponent, however they cannot interact with them. The only character that cannot enter the Saloon is the Governor - he wouldn’t risk his reputation by being seen in such an establishment!
Each player’s turn consists of two actions. You may choose from:
You can swap characters around in plain sight of your opponent, under the table or in any other sneaky way you please. Also, it is perfectly acceptable for characters to be placed back in their starting positions, it's up to you to bluff your way through!
Character Mini-Tokens: Outlaws is a game of strategy and memory. However, memory games aren’t for everyone. You can use the character tokens to help keep track of which of your opponent’s characters you’ve identified. They have a coloured side for when you’re certain of the character’s identity, and a black & white side for when you’re not so sure. You may move these tokens around as you please, but apart from serving as a reminder, they don’t have any effect on the game.
Revealing a character: Most actions in Outlaws require/cause you to “reveal” a character. Revealed characters are flipped around and shown to your opponent before being hidden again after completing the action.
Trying to take a token isn’t without risk. Guess correctly, and you win a considerable advantage. Get it wrong, and you’ll reveal precious information to your rival.
Each character’s ability is unique and some may only be used in specific circumstances:
There are 3 different ways for the game to end
If a player’s Governor reveals and takes the Election token whilst holding the most votes, they win the game.
If a player’s Hitman successfully assassinates the opposing Governor, they win the game.
If a player’s Sheriff successfully arrests their opponent’s Hitman, they win the game.
Just how you go about reaching these win conditions is entirely up to you! As you become more familiar with the characters and the extent of their abilities you can formulate your own strategies and moves. In the meantime, here’s a few of our favourites:
It may be safer be sure about the identity of a token before trying to take it, but you don’t have to! Using a minor character such as the Indian or the Reporter, you can move along the board guessing “Vote” for multiple tokens. If you’re lucky this could give you a lead in the polls. If you’re unlucky though, it could reveal something rather important to your opponent, such as the position of a Bullet or Handcuff token. So the question is - are you feeling lucky, punk?
The Bandit is a powerful tool. Like the Indian, he can be used to scout out your opponent’s line. If you get lucky you’ll come across either the Hitman or Sheriff that he can steal key items from. Even if your opponent shuts him down with their Sheriff, you can still learn a lot from your crime spree which can give you an advantage for the rest of the game.
A player without any Handcuff tokens is at a big disadvantage in Outlaws as it gives their opponent’s characters a lot of freedom. If you can bait your opponent into trying to arrest your Hitman whilst he is adjacent to the Priest, you’ll suddenly find your Hitman will have a lot more freedom in his hunt for the opposing Governor.
The Reporter’s ability is very potent, which is why you can only use it three times per game. To increase your chances of guessing correctly, use it later in the game once you’re more certain of your opponent’s positioning. Even if the characters revealed are not hugely important, reducing eight unknown quantities down to five is a big advantage.
The Mayor is ideal for catching opponents off guard, especially later in the game. Moves such as “diagonal” arrests from the Sheriff and long-distance token manipulation from the Storekeep can seal the deal for you if used well.
Whether you’re searching for a Vote token or trying to stop your opponent from finding it, the Storekeep is your man. When a token is picked up, all the others slide down and a new one always enters play at the top of the line. You can benefit from this by moving your Storekeep adjacent to this entry point to scrutinise any new tokens that enter the board and position them accordingly.
With two boxes of Outlaws you can play with up to four players. These 3 & 4 player modes take on a slightly different form but otherwise follow all the same rules!
You will however find that with more Sheriffs and more Hitmen comes a lot more bullets and handcuff tokens so these games can become quite rambunctious! The core duel theme is unchanged but you have a lot more elements to consider, which means things can get quite explosive!
With four players you can also play the team mode: Republicans vs Democrats! The setup is the same but each payer has their own Governor, Sheriff and Hitman which only they control. All the other characters can be used by both members of the party (team). The idea is to lead your team to victory...whilst also making sure that you become president and your friend vice-president. So be sure to keep a close eye on your “friends” in this one!
You can Download the rules HERE. Please note that these are still in Beta form and do not represent the final booklet you'll recieve with your game!

Board Game Arena (BGA), is an online boardgaming website launched at the start of 2011.
BGA offers online play, straight from the browser, in real time or "turn-based" mode, with full rules controls and players from the whole world. More than 650.000 games are played there each month (#1 service worlwide). 120 different various board games are available now on BGA, like Carcassonne, Race for the Galaxy or Seasons. Almost all of them can be played for free!
Currently the game design and pre-production for Outlaws is complete. You can see the prototype copies of it in the reviews and videos shown on this page. Some modifications have been made since these were printed and now there are just some modifications and final checks to be made to the rule book before we are happy with the final product.
As for stretch goals and other content we may unlock during the campaign: The game design and artwork for the majority of elements have been tested and finalized. Any remaining pieces should be completed not long after the Kickstarter has ended.
All in all, it shouldn't take too long to complete pre-production and send the game off to print. However, this depends on the route the campaign takes. We have prepared as much as possible but developments during the campaign may cause delays so please bear this in mind.

Well, the real question is - why not? Kickstarter and crowdfunding in general are amazing tools for game publishers and have revolutionized our industry. Financially it is one of the most beneficial routes of publishing and helps us ensure that everyone involved in the project earns a good living from each game. At the end of the day, this is what allows us to continue to do what we love! Kickstarter is also an amazing communication tool, allowing us to reach out directly in a unique and engaging way to those most interested in what we have to offer.
But that's not all. Beyond good business sense, Kickstarter allows us to prioritise quality over quantity. It allows us to only deal with games that we love and believe in 100%, taking the time and care necessary to push their development as far as it will go. Simply put, some games and/or their content would just not be viable with a "traditional" publishing method.
With the leeway and support afforded to us by these kind of projects, we can take a normal gaming experience and make it extraordinary. Via both material and content, our aim is to have all our games provide a unique, exciting, engaging and luxury experience!
We are aiming to deliver the game by Early Q2 2018. This may seem like a long time as the game itself is already quite advanced (as detailed in the "development" section). However, knowing the caprices of board game design, fabrication and shipping, we'd rather include a good margin of error in our estimations in order to avoid disappointment.
We've done our utmost to secure partnerships with respectable and reliable dispatchers with a proven record of service in order to ensure that your game gets to you post-haste!
Shipnaked will be ensuring the forwarding and delivery of games worldwide with the exception of France that will be handled by Meeple Logistics.
As mentioned previously, Shipping costs are not included in your pledge. After the campaign has concluded we will ask you to pay for shipping during the "Pledge Manager" phase.
Currently the shipping for this project is both E.U. and U.S. friendly. What does this mean? It means that backers from these two regions will not have to pay any import tax whatsoever when they receive their game.
This offer may extend to other regions during the campaign such as Canada, Australia and New Zealand. This will be decided purely based on the number of backers.
However, even if your region is not covered by this: please rest assured that our dispatcher will ensure you pay the absolute minimum in tax or brokerage for your game.
Below are the average prices for the Governor pledge (1 box) for each region. These are based on an estimation of the final weight of the game so please bear in mind that this may change depending on the campaign's progress. Purchasing multiple boxes will incur an increase in postage costs but nothing major (buy two boxes will not double the shipping cost for example).
Once again, these are averages, the real price may vary depending on your exact location. If your country is not on the list above, please feel free to contact us and we will inform you of the price.
Note that these prices include:
- Tracked Shipping
- Secure packaging to prevent damage during transport
Once again, if you have any questions about Shipping, please don't hesitate to ask us in the Comments section!
Risks and challenges
No crowdfunding project comes without risk but we have done our utmost to minimise it.
This is not our first rodeo, we have been involved in many Kickstarters before so are very familiar with any potential pitfalls.
Outlaws has already been fully designed and play-tested. All artwork and graphic design elements have been completed ahead of the kickstarter campaign for the core box and we have also reached agreements with our partners for manufacturing and shipping so that we can get your game to you as quickly as possible after the kickstarter campaign ends.
We estimate a March/April 2018 delivery date. This corresponds to the time we believe will be necessary to prepare the game for manufacturing, produce it and ship it to you. It also includes a safety margin too in case we come across any unforeseen circumstances.
It is in our best interests to get the game to our backers as soon as possible and we will do our utmost to ensure that there are no delays, however, it may be that a situation arises that is out of our control, such as issues with shipping, customs or problems at the factory. Should anything cause this date to change we will of course keep you updated.
All pledges can be refunded up to the completion of the Pledge Manager, no questions asked.
If, for any reason, we are unable to produce the game we will provide a full refund to all our backers.
