Greetings Knights!

We wish to start from thanking you about the great social work you are doing every minute of the campaign. It is easily seen because Waste Knights: Second Edition has climbed up to the second place of the Hotness ranking on BoardGameGeek. More and more people are learning about the game and the number of Backers keeps rising!

Considering that we have almost 2800 great supporting people here and we are closing to the next Stretch Goal, we have decided to offer you a big add-on as an optional buy. Have a look at Dogs of War, an expansion focusing on military organizations, combat-oriented characters, and extra gear to help you survive in the Waste. For $15 you get 2 new knights: Lisa Gomez and Warragul with their sheets and 4 upgrade cards each. Additionally, 8 new wasteland cards with enemies and events and 7 new gear cards will enrich your decks, adding variety to each gaming session. Finally, you get 1 completely new adventure: Lost Garrison featuring over 100 new entries, 2 special cards and dedicated plot sheets to guide you through the gripping narrative.

If you choose to increase your pledges now, not only will you get a great addition to your game, but also you will help in pushing the campaign forward and we will reach our next Stretch Goals in no time.

No matter what you decide, we thank you again for your stunning support! See you in the Waste!

      Hey, a question please; I like this Dogs of War, expansion; wanna increase pledge; But I dont know how to do it; if i´m on the "Waste Knights: Second Edition" site I have 3 posibilities: - "Brave Survivor- 1 US$ " , - support only, - Knight of the waste (mine);
      so what the deal to add the expansion; thanks;

@Format92 Yes, this variant will have the solo option.

Can this add-on be played solo ? Sorry if it was answered before, could not find anything about it.

@Freddy Thank you! We have learned a lot from today and feel we will be more aware of the Backers' expectations.

    5. Galakta Creator on

@Christopher D.Evans It's great to hear hear that. We are quite sure that you will find this new experience enjoyable, and the setting more thorough than in the 1st ed.

@all Thanks to your insight we understand much better know how you see it from the Backer's point of view and will keep this in mind. Thank you for the support and trust you've given us. We will sincerely appreciate you staying with the project and consider more ideas to make it attractive to all the Backers!

@Galakta - thanks for the explanation. It's clear that there's no way to please everyone. If you don't add the add-ons, there will be people complaining that they want more content and more add-ons. If you do add the add-ons, there will be people complaining that it gets too expensive. Personally I think you're doing a great job, and I hope this will not stop you from offering more great content for this game.

      @Galakta

I have moved discussion of my comment to the main comments page, but I would like to state here that I am definitely in the all or nothing camp (game play related items of course) when it comes to backing projects. Having said this I just prefer to know what the final cost for everything in a project upfront. As I said on the main comments page, having backed well over 450 projects with at least 165+ yet to deliver, trying to keep up with updates and "new" add-ons or pledge levels becomes tedious to say the least. And once I feel a project becomes tedious for me as a backer it is usually time to back out an move on as there are so many other shiny things to catch my attention with out adding tedium to my life. First world problems...am I right?

@ExcalibursZone - if you're okay with the add-ons if you can pay for them at a later time, then why not wait until the pledge manager to add the add-ons? Then you can split the costs and you have plenty of time to prepare/budget for them...

    11. Nick McKeon on

I get where you are coming from but this does feel a little short - termist to me. You didn't know how successful this would be at the outset but now you do. The additional content surely can't cost a third of the cost of the base game to produce and does seem overpriced for what it is. As it stands, there's a good chance you'll lose backers and I can't imagine any new ones will come in based specifically on this being available. On the contrary, new backers could well be put off by the high price of the "complete" game. Like the above commenter, I'd be much more inclined to support this as an expansion in a future kickstarter campaign (assuming the game is a good as I think it might be) and also support other projects of yours. If this one ends up leaving a sour taste in the mouth, that will categorically not be the case. To clarify, It hasn't yet and I'm still backing for the time being. I just hope you guys don't push this too far an end up alienating people. Best of luck!

I'm fine with additional add-on content so long as we know about it before hand. If I'd known about the possibility of this add-on at the onset, I wouldn't be upset about it. But when it just appears without warning, it looks as if it's a micro-transaction style campaign. As it stands, shipping is going to now push my pledge to over $100. It was going to sit at $87, estimated, which is already a lot for a game. You should have a list of all possible add-ons so that we can budget properly to support the campaign. Any further surprise add-ons will cause me to pull funding, because I'd rather not back a micro-transaction campaign and spend my $100 elsewhere. Which is a shame because the game looks like fun and I love post-apocalyptic stuff.

An alternative is to not put optional add-ons out at all and instead start a new Kickstarter and treat all the add-ons that you have as an expansion to the base game later on. This splits the cost of backing and makes it far more palatable to those who have to budget their buys. I would be a lot more willing to spend up to $80 (INCLUDING SHIPPING) for an expansion later on than try and afford everything up front sight unseen.

This campaign is very successful, congrats on making it! Since it is successful, a second (or third or fourth) Kickstarter campaign for expansions would most likely be as or more successful than the base game, especially if game is rated well.

Just my two-cents worth. (I'm up to what, fourteen cents now?)

    13. Galakta Creator on

@all Just a quick comment to sum up things on our side. First of all, we wish to make it clear the add-on was not cut out of the core game. It is just something extra we hope will bring you more fun and unforgettable hours of gameplay. The game as it is now is complete and you will enjoy it, too.
Secondly, for production reasons we could not offer something like that earlier. This is our 1st KS campaign and we had no idea how big your support would be. With such a big community we can hope enough of you will be interested in additional content to make it reasonable. You should know that any amount of off-set printed stuff is very expensive below 500 copies and becomes somewhat profitable from 1000+. With plastic components, it's like 2000+ at least. We wish this whole endevor to be succesful for all parties involved.
Lastly, in no way do we want do deceive you as to the game content. We have lots of content for SGs and as long as the campaign lasts, you can be sure we will offer it to you. What we offer as add-ons is just something extra and we do our best to keep prices reasonable and the content interesting. We appreciate all your comments in this regard and we hope you will forgive us if we somehow swerve from KS-typical behavior. This is due to us learning how to manage the Community and manage projects here. We will be more than happy to take any suggestions to improve the game and overall performace on KS.

Great news! Especially to push campaign forward. Don't you like, because you think it's deliberate action? Take core as a regular game and forget about addon.

    17. Nick McKeon on

Interesting. I might possibly stretch to this one but any more gameplay add-ons and I'll have pull my pledge I think. Cosmetic are fine, I don't need them, but I'm not going to pay an already quite substantial amount for an incomplete game. It's your game and it looks a good one and this is not really a criticism. That said, I personally won't be adding any more to my pledge after this one (possibly) and nor will I buy it if it isn't the full package. Good luck either way! It's gonna be a winner I'm sure; it's just very close to being too rich for my blood.

I would just like to say that I agree with the majority of the following post...

      "ExcalibursZone Superbacker

Great news on The Hotness and the rising number of backers.

Also add me to the list of not liking "hidden charges" or "fractured content" added at a later date. When you launch a Kickstarter, any add-ons that expand the game need to be disclosed so that backers can budget for them. Don't sneak them in throughout the campaign to coax more money from your backers. That feels like fleecing to me. I'm just irritated that it was unveiled in an update as if it were a stretch goal, even though it isn't one. I really hate this practice.

NOW, I'm fine with add-ons being stretch goals so long as we know ahead of time. It's better that way. The key takeaway is that we need to know about these additional, hidden costs at the start so we can budget for them (as I stated above). This is the better practice.

That being said, I will get the expansion, because I'm a completionist. But I certainly hope that no more surprise optional buys show up later, because too many of them will cause me to pull my backing. I am not going to keep paying out the nose in micro-transactions throughout a campaign. Backers are not made of money, optional buy or not. We feel like we're missing out on awesome content if we can't afford to keep buying all the optional stuff."

@Henk Allaert - you will be able to use these 2 characters in the core game (just as you will be able to use the other characters with the expansion).

    22. Freddy
      Superbacker
      on

@M.TERAN - I don't call it "fragmentation". The core game as it is offered, isn't fragmented... it's a complete and cohesive game. All the other stuff that they offer (either as stretch goals or as add-ons) offers more options and more replayability, but is not in any way required. So I see them as bonus content on top of the core game, not fragments that were part of the core game functionality that were intentionally removed.
But sure, if the core game had been offered for $100 or more, they could have included all that bonus content in the core game bundle.

    23. M.TERAN
      Superbacker
      on

Freddy. So it seems that you agree about the fragmentation of the game here.

      Whatever..

#2 most used comment is: " if you don't think it's good value for money, then just don't buy it. It's as simple as that...".

If you don't agree with somebody in KS you always can express your opinion just like you did in your last comment. It was an useful comment. Standard comment #2.... Well, is not as good...

    24. Henk Allaert on

Can the 2 characters from this expansion also be used for the base game or are they specifically designed to only work with the expansion ?

    25. Freddy
      Superbacker
      on

@M.TERAN - basically, almost all stretch goals and almost all add-ons in all game campaigns are things that *could* have been in the core game (so in that regard, your original comment was totally superfluous and unneccessary). But due to financing, not everything is. The more backers a campaign has, the more money the creator receives, the more their profit margin increases, the more they can add to the core game for free... you know that as well as I do. If this campaign ends up with 40,000 backers and with over $3M, there is probably a lot more they can add for free. But at this point, I think that's unlikely, and if it doesn't, they end up with a certain amount of content that *could* have been added to the game, but due to lack of financing, didn't make it. So offering that kind of content to people willing to pay for it, is an excellent option, both for the creator (more money) and for the backers (they still get that content that they otherwise would have missed out on, and on top of that, the money added to the campaign helps them get closer to the next free SG).
As for #2... you triggered that by stating "perhaps you need to advise only when others ask for it". If you post an opinion in a public section, others will respond with their opinion. If you're not interested in other people's opinions, then it's better not to post there.

Freddy. Look at this campaign, the strech goals are like things extracted from the core game that the creator are putting in when the funds rise. This expansion can, perfectly, be one of this stretch goals. All this things look like they were part of the core game as Shade explained too. And that's what I was trying to say.

And, on top of that, you use the standard KS comment #2. The #1 is "KS is not a store". Both #1 and #2 are totally obvious and unnecessary. But there is always people that write them one time and another. Trust me, they are unnecessary.

@M.TERAN - well, your remark indicates that you feel that this should have been a free stretch goal, and not a paid add-on. So even if you didn't use the words 'price' in your remark, it is an indirect reference to that. And that's what I replied to.
And if you have a remark that is only meant for the creator and that you don't want other people to respond to, then it's better to send a PM instead of posting it in a public comments section...

@Alexandre Leal - $80 will indeed be fine for core game + this expansion. At this point, you're all set. After the campaign, in the pledge manager, you will be able to specify how you want that money to be allocated/spent (not sure if that's backerkit or another pledge manager)

    31. Alexandre Leal on

So, I just added another 15.00US$ to the pledge, from 65.00$ to 80.00$. Do I need to do anything else or will we just choose the add-on in the backer-kit phase?

Freddy. Obviously, but perhaps you need to advise only when others ask for it. I was pointing my impresión about the game content. I feel (my opinion) that they fragmented it artificially to sell it in little "pieces". I didn't say anything about the price. And, because I don't want that you have to say another obvious thing... I know it's normal in other projects too.

    34. Galakta Creator on

@Shade Each adventure with its unique plots adds certain new mechanics to the game. Plus it simply adds more hours of immersive gameplay.

    35. Shade on

Along with that i'm happy we get "more" I'm also not sure about that kind of "expansion" which looks like a cutted stuff from main game - adding more that same, instead of adding something new and fresh which change mechanic etc. $15 it's almost 1/4 of price of core game, but don't add nothing special. I'll probably take it, but for my wallet it's too expansive.

@Chris Myers - yes, it most likely will. This is what they said about 5-6 players:

"At this point we prefer not to add the 5/6 player option for various reasons:
      1. Increased downtime
      2. Scaling of the adventures
      3. Number of unique components

With the number of players going up the replayability of the game is a little lower as the same cards are recycled more quickly and more narrative options are "used up".
However, we are considering a few ideas on how to incorporate the 5th player not only to avoid these problems but add a new layer to the game."

    46. Galakta Creator on

@Joeri Temmerman This is not a Stretch Goal, it is an optional buy. If you like more content for your game, you may choose to get it too. Increasing your pledge now will get you the add-on and additionally will help us with the overall Stretch Goals.
