My pitch and request:
In order for me to go ahead with production of Love Trap- my debut positive influence HipHop/Trap album- I will only feel comfortable re-recording, re-mixing, and mastering not only on better equipment, but on my own time and at home, how and where I work best. The album is called Love Trap (trap music but for love, rather than money and drugs), a first sample of my work, and with the equipment I will also be creating further Love Trap albums. It will also serve as the base equipment for production of my other forms of music once this album is finished. On this first, I myself wrote all the lyrics, all the beats, recorded and produced what I have so far all on my ipad by myself, and have it ready for final production, but I don’t have the money to build my low-budget home studio! And, as I don’t see myself having sufficient funds to build a studio anytime soon, I come to you, kickstarter philanthropists, looking for enough money to get my positive music to the people. I have extensive history (for a 27-year old) revolving around the music industry. I have been playing the drums since I was 8 years old, was raised listening to bands whose work I still hope mine can be like in terms of popularity some day, have been in some great jam sessions as a drummer, as well as some start-up bands that never got going too far, but which taught me a lot about the art of music. I love hip hop, amongst all other genres of music, as long as it has thought and effort put into its creation, but as far as the message put out to the masses, I can’t stand most music recorded through history up until now, across all genres.
Some lyrics from this first Love Trap:
“I’m trapping hard for love my friends- my soul within, my mind all on the game that life is, but it knows the game is more a mission that never ends, so my diction comes to mend, friendly confines in my vision, with good intentions I will mention everything we’re missing…”
“I’ve been learning things, like how to exist in this cold world while having a warm beating heart, and how to keep my tears from seeing the present in order to keep my eyes from bleeding (we need to focus on not our woes but our healing them)… A good future is worth seeing, but only since any future has to come… I wish I could shut life up but I can’t, so I’ll run with the torch that burns- the one that dances around with its flame which is much too tame which needs to spread and fill all dark spaces… I’ll bring it! Space has nothing on me (I’ll bring it!)… When I couldn’t do and could only see I learned patience and now not only fight for but also wait on a peaceful eternity… the one that’s on our horizon; yea, it’s there”
“The spoils from exploitation spoil… everything comes back around… use all the oil, stake the ground, and charge for survival… who will truly sleep sound? The elite? The royal? Nope! Cuz what’s left once the people foil? Just some time to toil before retribution comes back to mend, not to make friends, and through a hell we’re all sent”
How I will be spending the money, after extensive research into these products online:
I am looking to build a small, low-budget, portable, home studio capable of producing at least 3,000 hard copies of Love Trap from recording to finished product. The album will also be available digitally, for online download. I am also looking for funding to create some PL4H merchandise. There are also fees applied to successful projects, as collected by Kickstarter itself. My total base asking amount, including Kickstarter fees and everything else, is $10,922. With any extra money raised to a point, I will be adding extra equipment and upgrading the equipment on my base list, and, depending on how many donors contribute, I may also be printing more hard copies. Past that point, extra funds will go towards flying in guest artists to each record fitting verses in the studio for Love Trap (my blood sister, my sister from another, and other artists, including an established artist of my choice based on the amount of money I have raised to pay for their appearance, and/or the excitement I can generate around the album in order to entice them).
Kickstarter collects a 5% fee, plus a 3-5% payment processing fee.
My wife has a Bachelors in Architecture, and a Masters in Project Management, and has been helping to put this whole thing together. Amongst other help, she will be leading the design and building of a semi-portable soundproofed room within a room, with my reasoning being that a room within a room is the best way to keep my sounds in and extraneous sounds out, therefore creating a legitimate space to record, mix, and master. Without an enclosed, purposeful space, the end product would sound less professional. We are building our own space in order to cut the costs of recording in a professional studio, and to allow me my best work environment possible.
As far as recording equipment, I am looking to buy a Rode NT2-A Vocal Condenser Microphone (which comes in a package along with a shock mount, metal pop filter, dust cover, and cable- all which are needed in some form to record professionally), with a Hercules MS533B Hideaway Boom Microphone Stand. My reasoning for the Rode NT2-A is its exceptional potential as a quality, vocals-only microphone, while costing a fraction of other options in its quality range. It has many settings and can be fine-tuned for my specific needs. My reasoning for this specific package is that it comes with a highly-trusted Rode shock mount, as well as its own pop filter (which is fitted, and therefore leaves me no need to go through loops to get an individual pop filter mounted; also, the pop filter is metal, which means I can clean it, unlike fabric filters), as well as a dust cover, which will improve the longevity of the microphone. The package also comes with a cable. My reasoning for the Hercules MS533B tripod stand is its stability for the microphone and shock mount even while fitted with a somewhat heavy acoustic isolation shield. I am looking to buy a Focusrite Scarlett 6i6 (2nd Gen) USB Audio Interface, with my reasoning being that it has built in pre-amps which are necessary for the microphone I am looking to buy, and a high enough sample rate for my needs. The 6i6 also has plug-ins for inserts in case I end up needing to use something, but my main needs are the sample rate and pre-amps. The interface does not come separate from software on amazon, though I will not be using the software it comes with.
For a computer, I am looking to buy an Apple MacBook Pro with 2.8 GHz Processor, with my reasoning being that as a more portable studio, a laptop is preferred. The processor should be about 3 GHz to run everything I will need it to run, and this computer exceeds that criteria when in “turbo boost” mode. I like the quality of Apple products, and I like working artistic projects on them, as well.
For a DAW (digital audio workstation), I am looking to buy Pro Tools, with my reason being that it is extremely popular due to functionality, it is expansive enough for me to have most everything I will be needing to produce this album, and, also, with its popularity comes a great support network in case I need assistance. It is compatible with Apple computers.
For monitor speakers, I am looking to buy a pair of Yamaha HS5s, with my reasoning being, in regards to size, that 5 inches is a middle-ground amongst monitors that I believe will offer the best range of sound for me to work with. I will add a subwoofer with extra raised funds, but, on their own, these HS5s will be a good base point to work from. I am choosing Yamaha for their history with sound systems, especially in studios, and their recognition amongst sound engineers as making very high quality speakers, and, particularly, with these well-known speakers that frequent home studios. This is where I will be reviewing the final product, and I want to make sure that everything sounds perfect before pressing the publish button.
For headphones, I am looking to buy the Sennheiser HD280Pro (old model) headphones for recording, with my reasoning being that they have a great history and are well known as extremely high quality budget recording headphones. They keep sound in well enough to not have any pre-mixed sound making its way into the vocal tracks during recording. For mixing, I am looking to buy the Samson SR850 Semi-Open-Back Studio Reference headphones, with my reasoning being that they are of the cheapest professional quality mixing headphones on the market. I am choosing to cut cost here and transfer that load onto the monitor speakers. I still need something to put in many hours mixing, but I don’t need as high quality headphones considering I will be checking on the high quality monitor speakers before finalizing anything anyways.
For a CD duplicator, I am looking to buy a Produplicator 1 to 5 Standalone Duplication Tower, with my reason being that I will be needing to print many copies and could do so more easily by creating 5 at a time, and am willing to give more time to the process in order to cut costs and reach my funding goal, rather than getting a duplicator that can copy more at a time. The many reviews on this duplicator are great for something so cheap.
For a multiple-copy CD printer, I am looking to buy a Primera Technology Primera Bravo SE 3 AutoPrinter, with my reasoning being that 3,000 copies is a lot of CDs to manually place labels on, and I will be sending these CDs out as quickly as possible upon completion of the album in order to get on the road to promote the album, and back into the studio for Love Trap 2.
For studio furniture, I am looking to buy a GDF Studio Valyrian Black Tempered Glass Computer Desk, with my reasoning being the low cost and my lacking need for desk space, as I will be using a laptop and monitor (speaker) stands. I am looking to buy a Modway Articulate Black Mesh Office Chair, with my reasoning being, again, cost efficiency. I feel that the chair is comfortable enough, and I would rather put more money elsewhere. I am looking to buy (2) Ultimate Support MS-90/36B MS Series Professional Column Studio Monitor Stand with Non-Marring Decoupling Pads- 36” for speaker stands, with my reasoning being that their stability and durability will allow for the speakers to sound more accurate due to less resonation/vibration.
For miscellaneous parts, I am looking to buy a Monoprice 602650 Microphone Isolation Shield, with my reasoning being that the shield will separate the microphone recording area from the rest of the room, and will therefore further create a more professional recordable sound. I will need printing supplies (ie. Paper for the album sleeves, CDs to print the final product on, ink, etc.), and am factoring this in to my wiggle room. I will also need cables and adapters wherever necessary, and am also factoring this in to my wiggle room.
For PL4H and Love Trap merchandise, I am looking for funds enough to print merchandise for donors. I am looking to cover $1,250 worth of merchandise in my base asking amount; I figure that should cover my needs, based on how many donors would have to contribute to meet my base asking amount. Any needs over that $1,250 will be covered by funding above my asking amount.
For wiggle room, I am asking for $2,500, with my reasoning being that I priced everything out very accurately, but if something is unobtainable, I will have to go elsewhere, and may run into price differences. I also left out some lower-cost miscellaneous parts and supplies from my exact budget. Taxes, shipping, and other expenses may drive the cost up a bit as well.
With extra funds raised (look under “costs and order of importance” for more info), I am looking to buy and/or upgrade to Beyerdynamic DT990 Pro Open Studio Headphones for mixing, with my reasoning being that they are the headphones I prefer, but that I would rather spend my base budget elsewhere since I will have speakers to mix on anyways. I am looking to buy a more portable, pre-built room- the ClearSonic MegaPac 7x8x7 Sound Isolation Booth or, if my budget does not allow that, than the smaller version, the ClearSonic MinimegaD Sound Isolation Booth. I am looking to buy an Avantone Pro Active Mixcube, with my reasoning being that, as most listening these days happens on simple speakers, this speaker will give me a good depiction of how my music will sound to most people. I am looking to buy a Yamaha HS8S subwoofer, with my reasoning being that this would complete my monitor sound and give me an even more accurate idea of how my music will sound on good sound systems. I am looking to buy an Ergolab Stealth Studio Chair, with my reasoning being that it is made specifically for music studio use, and is healthier for the back than other desk chairs. I am looking to buy (2) Ultimate Support Angling Desktop Studio Monitor Stand- Ultimate Support MS-80 decoupling pads, with the reason being that I can, with these, reposition my speakers in relation to my ears without having to adjust my chair instead. The speakers should direct sound directly to my ears as the producer, according to sound production 101. Also, these stands would even further separate my speakers from their supporting stands, improving sound quality during mixing and mastering. I would upgrade the disc duplicator and CD printer to an all-in-one version, the Primera Bravo 4201 Disc Duplicator and Printer. I may create more merchandise, based on how many donors contribute to my cause.

I currently have produced only shells of the songs for Love Trap, as I found it difficult to find it in me to finalize and beautify everything on my ipad only to trash it and start the process over once I have funding, but watch my video for a demo mix of what I have so far, as well as an interview regarding the album and this campaign.
I hope you can help me help!
My name is Aaron J “PL4H” Kaplan- middle name Joseph, artist name PL4H (Peace and Love for Happiness)- and I come to you with a plea. With our human civilization currently in emotional shambles, with spirituality taking a backseat to materialistic prosperity, with violence against the self and/or others being the go-to for many (if not most) in times of tribulation, with war being waged around the world, with poverty being the norm, with ignorance of our own needs blinding almost our every action and arrogance trumping even our own deepest desires and driving us as a society further and further from unification, what we need now as much as ever, in order to guide us towards unity and happiness, is hope, awareness and understanding, a peaceful and loving disposition, and trust that we are not all alone in our struggles against this world that has evolved into its current state of such negativity and been reluctantly adopted by us- we need to know that we are all in this together, and that it is up to each and every one of us to care for each other and our world, as is our responsibility and duty as living beings. We are still alive and full of energy only because we still have the power to change the destiny- for good- that we will all walk into as we step into the future- our ever-evolving present- and that we will pass along to our next generations. And I literally pray, for goodness’ sake, that you will hear me, feel me, and if you have not already taken up the torch from another source, that you will adopt the love for all living beings which I would like to share with you through my artwork.
About me and my work:
My artwork is the means by which I have determined that I can contribute most beneficially to the world that we all share, for the fact that, as of now, I am dirt poor in terms of individual monetary wealth and therefore can not contribute to the general welfare of the worlds people but by spreading my message of kindness and the potential for peace and happiness that we possess as a society; rather than chasing a paycheck, since finding my purpose and my message I have chased this message down which I put forth through my artwork, and I have allowed my survival to be handled by universal fate, which has consequentially or coincidentally (I believe consequentially) brought into my life a wonderful lady (now my wife) who loves to support me emotionally, mentally, and financially. I believe that through good work alone am I, personally, worthy of life; I also believe this criteria is similar for every person ever, but I know that until finding ones purpose, many opportunities, both good and bad, will come ones way. And, rather than blaming everyone else for not having found their own purpose, I am sincerely grateful that I have found my own, and have made it my mission in life to help guide other people to finding theirs.
A bit on my plans:
Of course, I realize that through my work may one day come immense monetary wealth, and I am prepared for that possibility- I am prepared to not squander the opportunity to have spare money to distribute throughout the world in ways that I believe can bring a better way of life to as many people as possible (heck, I even have a plan dissecting exactly where all income from my art will go as it comes in, and though it of course includes money for my immediate family and some toys as we all need a break sometimes in order to function effectively, the large majority of it is to go towards philanthropy); I am not in it for the money. If I had to choose between spreading my message and totally healing the world while continuing to live in financial poverty, or living on in the world as it is but rich with money and toys, I would most obviously choose the former. But I have realized that most likely, as I lend the contribution of my message, I will receive in return money by which I can survive, help the world, and play. And with that I am not upset, for one must be comfortable enough themselves before they can extend help to others. But trust me, I know that even if my dying or being tortured were the only way the world could be saved, I would gladly do it (as I have proven to myself through my past), but as I alone can not save the world (even through self-sacrifice), I plan to do my best to spend my life sacrificing my time to help as much as I can- through good works, as much hustle as I can muster, and philanthropy to as great a degree as I can manage.
A bit about my history, and more on my plans:
I have spent countless hours racking my brain in order to think of ways to best contribute my time and resources towards efforts of peace. I have chosen the role of martyr through prayer, and I have prayed myself into insanity and almost to death many times over, during which time I wrote poems and stories in hopes of making money enough to buy my mother and our family out of debt and poverty, with little hope for civilization and an incomplete understanding of the way of peace. I have spent the time after that stage of self-imposed, self-punishing prayer-time with a gift from the universe: a simple message, of which I already knew, but of which I had never realized the profundity and therefore importance of, and by which I had never before imagined that the world could be saved or that I could be one to spread such a message. And so I embarked on another journey through my mind, but this time searching for a way to spread the message. Of course, I found art- where most people find themselves who have something to say to more than just a few people. For me, it has turned out to be written, spoken, and musical art. At a point, I found my niche, and, since, I have mostly given up all of my other cares and worries in exchange for the mission of spreading my message, and though it has been spread before and exists in nooks and crannies of our shared life and world, there has never been a better time in history to spread it completely, considering the means we have these days of spreading a message (internet, pocket-held computers, digital music, etc.). I have begun numerous projects all with the same idea in mind: to spread, through art, positive vibes that lead to happiness. I have always looked at art with admiration for its qualities as a medium, and I have always acknowledged the fact that it is very influential and therefore potentially an extremely important facet of life, especially these days. I always wanted to be an artist of some sort on the side, but have recently decided to make it the main function of my life. I have decided to self-publish most of my work rather than working through traditional publication, as I, when mixed in a pot with others, become flexible almost to the point of invisibility and just go with the flow; I don’t want to dilute my message by trying to please a publisher or record label. So far, within the last 2 years, I have created, edited (countless times), and self-published 2 ebooks of my original poetry (for a total of 262 poems), and am waiting on circumstances of assembly (both of the books’ proper aesthetic and materials, as well as the fanbase) in order to publish them in hardcopy versions. I have many stories done or halfway done, I have many other poems complete, I have many essay topics waiting on my time to finish them, and I have music ready for production, including the subject of this post- Love Trap- which is (ALMOST!) ready to hit the streets. I have waited to have a good amount of artistic material before beginning my touring and promotion, and I feel like I do have that now, between my ebooks available for sale, and my blog sites and posts organized, and so I have determined this albums release as the perfect time to begin promotion. Now I need to produce it properly.
Risks and challenges
The biggest challenge for creating this album is fundraising, and I see Kickstarter as the only truly viable option.
My wife has a Masters Degree in Project Management and is overseeing this project throughout, in order for me to have a second brain on duty in order to reduce the risk of failure.
All copies of the album will be created and inspected in-house on the equipment purchased with Kickstarter-raised funds, eliminating the risk of botched copies sent from an outside source.
All songs are written already, and simply need to be re-recorded and re-produced.
