Heart Burn Webseries
A pyromaniac falls for a girl who is afraid of fire while partnering with her in group therapy "Random Issues and Problems" or "RIP".
"Someone once said, be who you were meant to be and you'll set the world on fire... I guess I'm who I'm meant to be..." says Joel, a proud pyromaniac who must complete twelve weeks of court ordered therapy in order to be released from house arrest and expunge his felony.
In the therapy group titled Random Issues Problems or RIP, he is partnered with Gemma, a girl who is afraid of fire (and almost everything actually) who has failed therapy three times before. Unfortunately, both partners have to succeed in order to graduate therapy.
Joel can either be trapped in a loop with these loonies OR suck it up and help Gemma while completing his therapy exercises, including a random act of kindness wherein he enlists the help of a eleven-year-old Sasquatch hunter to find and catch Gemma's lost, ill-humored cat.
His courage to successfully complete therapy is dashed when he begins to fall for Gemma but then discovers that she is dating the guy who framed him with a felony. Sparks may fly... literally.
Designed as a limited webseries --much like a feature film broken into episodes. This campaign is for the first two episodes. The money will go to cast, crew, set design, costumes/props, food, travel, locations and equipment. The more we raise, the more episodes we can make (up to the full series which would cost $20,000 for 100 minutes of content).
Meet our team!
Patrick Mercaldo is the best listener-- which is good, since he is our audio engineer. He will make sure everything sounds amazing. He has been making award winning films for seven years.
Louis Rubera is the real pyro behind the scenes and our director of photography. Louis was three when he started building computers and he can fix anything-- lights, camera... coffee makers. His attention to detail and desire for perfection is why our poster looks the way it does. He taught me there is actually a right way to burn a cookie.
Me-- I have been working on Heart Burn for 4.5 years. The idea originated with a guy who didn't know how to show affection and came off as creepy. The original title was Creep Prey Love. It developed from there to be a guy who is obsessed with fire and won't let anyone get to close (for a good reason you will later learn). I love this story so much and look forward to sharing it with you!
Waverly Fremgen (as Gemma-- the girl who is afraid of fire), Shane P. Allen (her father and therapist to both her and the pyro) and Caroline Amiguet (the creepy but charming therapy group leader) comprise our hilarious and talented cast so far. We have yet to cast Joel, the pyromaniac.
Thank you for stopping by and for your support!
Risks and challenges
The challenge of this webisode is time and money-- but also finding the perfect Joel for Gemma. We have our eye on a SAG actor who is amazing, and hope with financing we will be able to secure him.
We really strive for excellence, so time will be an issue regardless of financing, since perfecting a moment and shot on film takes far longer than imagined-- but with a strict schedule and perhaps the chance of an extra pick-up day for any reshoots/ADR (Automated Dialog Replacement), we will get everything we need to make a hilarious and fun show for you all!¸
