A prototype is a preliminary model of something. Projects that offer physical products need to show backers documentation of a working prototype. This gallery features photos, videos, and other visual documentation that will give backers a sense of what’s been accomplished so far and what’s left to do. Though the development process can vary for each project, these are the stages we typically see:
Proof of Concept
Explorations that test ideas and functionality.
Demonstrates the functionality of the final product, but looks different.
Looks like the final product, but is not functional.
Appearance and function match the final product, but is made with different manufacturing methods.
Appearance, function, and manufacturing methods match the final product.
The Story, The Idea: The First Wireless Dual Driver Active Noise Cancelling Headphone
Believe it or not, my fear of flying lead me to this journey
I had been looking for a small company that I could acquire and grow. Like many of us, I wanted something I believed in and also something that would make a difference. When I met with David and learned about the Solitude active noise cancelling (ANC) headphones, I was intrigued. But what really sold me what actually USING them. Yes, I was aware of ANC headphones, but like other people I did not want to spend a large amount of money for a pair. Being a money conscious mom, I knew I wanted to make it my mission to grow a company that could offer quality products at a more pleasing price.
With the success of the Solitude XCS2, and the demand for an affordable, quality wireless headphone, we set out to make the world's first wireless headphone to utilize the patented dual driver technology. We collaborated with our manufacture to design a stylish, comfortable headphone that would be wire free.
Listen to cabin noise without noise canceling
Listen to simulated noise cancelling
Our Solitude WX1 will be the first wireless headphone to utilize the dual driver technology. Most headphones use a single driver, which contributes to much less quality in the terms of audio fidelity and performance. Our wireless noise cancelling headphone houses two speakers and a noise-sensing microphone in each ear cup, resulting in no loss in the mid-range frequency response. This provides a much richer, fuller sound for a true surround sound effect.
How it Works
Active noise cancelling is produced by Destructive Interference. The built-in microphone listens to surrounding ambient noises, which then generates a sound wave that's out of phase (opposite sound). The headphone speakers play these opposite sound waves, which clash against the ambient sounds, combine and negate them, in theory "sound erases".
Benefits of Noise Cancelling Headphones
The constant drone of an airplane or the rattling of a train, can cause you to feel anxious, irritated and restless. Reducing background ambient noise can help you change your mood and become more relaxed, making your trip more enjoyable.
Although noise-cancelling headphones were originally created for airplane pilots and passengers to improve their comfort on long flights, noise cancelling headphones are also beneficial for public transportation, open-plan work spaces, clearer audio listening, and for individuals with sensory disabilities.
One our goals has been to help individuals with noise sensitivities. We see all age ranges from young children to adults who benefit from noise cancelling headphones. By wearing noise-cancelling headphones a person with ASD can eliminate most of the background noise and reduce what remains to a manageable level. This makes it possible to concentrate on other tasks, relax, play games with others and many more activities that are normally difficult or impossible. Unfortunately many of the noises that cause the biggest problems for people with ASD are high pitched, and children’s’ ears are much more sensitive to high frequencies than adults’. That means you should look for headphones with full-spectrum noise reduction, such as the Solitude WX1.

Our current Solitude XCS2, the wired version of our headphone with dual drives, has been such a success we are currently sold out of inventory! Your funding to our Kickstarter will continue our production of this high-quality, affordable product to the market. No more paying big-box prices!
"Our overview is the Solitude headphones are excellent headphones for cabin use. The quality of sound and noise reduction is excellent. When we looked at the performance of the Solitude headphones for cabin operation, the Solitude headphones were excellent along with very high quality" - evaluated by D Young, AA Pilot
"I have been able to use Solitude Headphones in my work as a School Psychologist. I wanted to share back how effective they have been with the students that I support. While we have long utilized standard earmuffs or other means to reduce sensory input for many students, my experience had not included the use of noise cancelling headphones until recently. My team has found that many children demonstrate a strong preference for noise cancelling headphones. We have found them to be very beneficial as a means to support sensory needs and to support emotional/behavioral regulation. We've found strong efficacy for use across many therapies and as an effective motivator. These are great headphones set well within our budget and have been very reliable."-

"The XCS2 is absolutely outstanding. I really like the quality fit and finish and the audio quality is awesome. The noise reduction is really noticeable yet I can hear my tractors and most spoken words (directed to me). I mow large fields each week and listen to my music on my phone. I can even slow the mower engine, stop the blades and talk on the phone using the included cord. Thanks for making things better and quieter." - review of XCS2 Richard F.
We will be using our funds to complete the final stages of our product. We would like to provide quality packaging, accessories and improve and expand our advertising. We believe in our product and know that it will be an achievement if we can share this affordable, quality item with the world.
Risks and challenges
Our wired Solitude XCS2 noise cancelling headphone exceeded our expectations and has sold out of inventory. The dual driver system was tested and launched in this model proving a success! We are confident that the need and interest for a wireless version will increase the demand for this launch.
