- Hello! My name is Aniko and I am a sculptor – storyteller!
- Sorry …who??
- A sculptor – storyteller! :) And here comes the story about me and my Mandarin Duck Texture Stamps.
ABOUT ME and YOU
I create my artworks from polymer clay and tell stories through my artworks to inspire people, to unwind their imagination and to make them feel positive emotions. I also teach people to create beautiful things through my videos and instructional tutorials. I am very passionate about colors, shapes and most of all the textures. In every creative medium there is a way to express yourself through textures and patterns as sometimes the color just isn’t enough. Textures and patterns are things that can simply make your art look and feel very realistic and alive.
When I sculpt I get obsessed with covering every inch of my project with textures and I can dedicate a whole day just to this process, from making detailed dragon skin textures or carving out a realistically looking tree trunk patterns. Or both at once! Why not?
But sometimes it makes me wonder if everyone has the patience or the time needed to achieve such painstaking results? What if you are very new to the medium? What if you have bodily restrictions and can’t have a seated position for a long time? What if you are just playing with clay for fun in your free time? And what if in spite of all that you still desire to make beautiful things?
People used to ask me all the time: "How did you make your textures?" and many of them would walk away unsatisfied with my answer “I did it with my own hands”. All I could hear in return was “I wish I would have your hands”… You may think this made me feel proud, but actually it made me feel sad as I've learned that not everyone is able to spend their time and energy on one particular thing for their own reasons.
So it was only inevitable that after hearing people’s comments again and again I started to think of ways I can help creative people to be able to create similar results but faster, helping them to evolve and progress even more and discover new talents in themselves.
I came up with an idea to create a small collection of hand drawn texture stamps. Something very personal that came right out of my heart through my hands onto the paper and something that can be passed to YOU as a part of ME. So to some point and extent I have found the way to give my hands to you!
Mandarin Duck Texture Stamps are made from High Quality Polymer, which is a great, flexible and durable material for different craft mediums such as polymer clay, silver clay, porcelain, ceramics, papercrafts, fabric and more.
The transparency of the stamp and it's organic shape gives you more control over your design, giving more choice and possibilities for your artistic expression.
Each style is packed in it's unique A6 size packaging and some have a few stamps in the set, some have only one large texture type stamp. Here are few slides from the catalogue!
HOW TO USE?
The stamps are naturally sticky from the back and non-sticky from the front and come sealed from both sides with transparent film. This is a perfect way to store your stamps when you are not using them.
- If you choose to use the stamps mainly with inks, then you can attach them to an acrylic block and wash them in lukewarm water with washing up liquid after you are finished with your project. Allow it to dry naturally. After drying out, the back of the stamp will become sticky again and you can place it back onto acrylic block or into original package.
- If you choose to use the stamps for texture stamping on different types of clay, I suggest to wash it in lukewarm water first, let it dry naturally and then put a layer of cornstarch or talcum powder on it. It will give you a smooth and non-sticky feel and assure an easy and pleasant stamping experience.
- For cake fondant textures, do the same, but make sure to imprint the textures through the cling film. Photopolymer is not toxic, but it’s better being safe than sorry!
- Store in between two plastic films provided in the package or store on acrylic block. If covered in cornstarch or talcum powder, then store freely anywhere.
- Wash in lukewarm water with some soap or washing up liquid when needed. Dry naturally.
- With such easy care these stamps will last for years and will serve their multiple functions without problems.
UP UNTIL NOW!
As an artist and as a business I am always challenging myself in order to evolve. So first, few years ago, I assembled a set of Dotties to help crafters like you have a lot of fun with big and small circle cutters and all the endless opportunities. Next came my branded Mandarin Duck Simply Dotting Tool set which was also a big success.
In 2014 I came up with an idea to create a small collection of hand drawn texture stamps. Something very personal that came right out of my heart through my hands onto the paper and something that can be passed to YOU as a part of ME. So to some point and extent I have found the way to give my hands to you!
It was a huge challenge and it took me 1.5 years from the very first sketch to the moment I received a ready stamp prototype and could hold it in my hands.
The journey of working on the designs, looking for manufacturers, dealing with financial challenges was not an easy one, but I have managed to release my small limited edition Mandarin Duck Texture Stamp collection that had 8 designs and ONLY 400 stamps in total.
It was a great success and I have learnt a lot about people who would use my stamps. I was surprised that my texture stamps where not only used by clay artists, and I realised that I have much wider market such as scrapbooking, card making, metal clay, porcelain, polymer clay, ceramics, fabrics… and even cakes :)
And when I realised it, I ran out of stamps! Oops!
For the second collection, inspired by the welcoming reviews and suggestions of my followers, I decided to go wild and have created 21 designs in total, but when I realized how much it will cost me to produce, I sat down on my chair in frustration as I just couldn't afford this kind of investment and I felt that my dreams just shattered into a million little pieces.
Nevertheless... after more brainstorming an idea came into my mind to set up a Kickstarter project and see what happens!
SO IT'S ALL VERY SIMPLE!
There is ME, sitting in my studio with a new 21 design Mandarin Duck Texture Stamp collection waiting to be released to the world.

QUESTIONS? Pleas don't hesitate to ask me any questions that you may have about this project in the comment section bellow!
I was going through a huge research when creating this collection and I wanted to cover a wide range of styles and functions here, that’s why some of the stamps will work better on paper and some will be perfect for sculpting. They are, of course, made up to a high industry standard and can be used with any medium, but I just wanted to mention that the smallest designs like turtles and Indian flowers provide the best results when used on paper or fabric as a stamp. I have every stamp tested and you can see for yourself the close up photos of the stamps, their imprints and how they look when stamped on different surfaces.

Thank you for reading ALL THIS!!! :)
You are GREAT!
Risks and challenges
To me it doesn't seem that there can be any problems.
If the project gets it's funding, all I will need to do is make sure I order the products and after receiving the stamps, distribute them accordingly to my backers.
My manufacturer is a trusted partner of mine with whom I worked before on my first collection and they are ready to start whenever I am.
It might take some time to manufacture the stamps depending on the amount we will decide to order, but I have accounted over 3 months for this, so we should be perfectly fine.
All the designs are ready and have been tested in printing. I have the prototype samples which are great quality. So the horizons seem to be clear to me and I can't wait to start.
Let's do it!
