We are so grateful to all of our supporters so far. Thank you!
We are being supported by Emma Thompson, Dawn French, Gemma Arterton, Hattie Morahan, Sue Perkins, Harriet Walter, Lindsay Duncan, Lucy Porter, Louise Brealey.
Emma Thompson says about our project: "I am so excited about this project. It is brilliantly vitally timely. Who isn't worried about the effects of such easily accessed porn on this generation of kids? Attaching it to discussions about love and connection is a masterstroke. I urge everyone to get behind it. It will help with so many mental health issues, and could actually save lives. Bravo."
We are meeting 10,000 children and young people aged between 5 and 22 across the UK from Inverness to Pembrokeshire; from Cornwall to Norfolk. To hear their ideas about pornography, love and connection.
We are working with 100's of theatres and schools across the UK and with Barnardo's.
This is the largest piece of research ever done on this subject. And it will mean that we working with completely up-to-date ideas which have come from children themselves.
We are making a piece of theatre based on these conversations. WHY IS THE SKY BLUE? will be performed by children and young people. And it will feature the words of children across the country set to music by Matt Regan. The piece is being made by Abbey Wright and Shireen Mula.
In addition we will launch a digital platform to display our research, a nationwide education project for parents, teachers and children in collaboration with Barnardo's, and a touring version of WHY IS THE SKY BLUE?
We want to change the national conversation.
Risks and challenges
This is a huge project and co-ordinating the logistics of meeting children and delivering workshops across the country is a huge challenge. We are so grateful to all of our partner theatres for their amazing help and support.
This is a taboo subject. Safeguarding these conversations with children and young people is crucial. We are very grateful to Barnardo's who have advised us on our safeguarding policy.
We are making a piece of theatre from scratch, with non-professional performers. This has logistical and creative challenges - but is incredibly exciting and rewarding.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
