About this project
NOTE: Every penny raised will be spent directly on this film. The production company Keen City, director Nick Goulden and producer Angela Godfrey are devoting their time and expertise completely for free. All other cast and crew will be paid, but are very generously devoting a lot, if not all of their prep time for free and working for pennies during the shoot to allow as much of the money raised to go directly to making Forget Me Not made to the highest standard and to allow it to be shown to the world at festivals and beyond.
We are THRILLED to announce that on March 5th – just five days after our launch - Forget Me Not smashed its "All Or Nothing" goal of £10,000!
*** BUT IT DOESN'T STOP THERE! ***
*** WE NEED TO PUSH ON TO ACHIEVE THE FULL PRODUCTION BUDGET OF £16,500! ***
Our initial "All Or Nothing" goal of £10,000 ensures we can make the film. However the full production budget of £16,500 allows us to make Forget Me Not to the standard we are aiming for and reach audiences and festivals worldwide.
Our campaign is still LIVE until 5:38am (GMT+1) Thu, March 30, so we're hoping to push on and achieve even greater things! The full budget will go towards:
Camera & Lenses: We want to shoot on anamorphic lenses and the best camera. We’ve already done a test shoot using the Red Epic Weapon with Cooke Anamorphic lenses which looks fabulous. Using these will give Forget Me Not a beautiful, atmospheric look.
Lighting: With much of the film taking place at night and the need for a clear distinction between our day and night scenes, the right lighting is vital. Our full budget gives us all the tools we are hoping for to do that.
Three Full Shoot Days: The full budget ensures we can shoot for three full days, allowing us to spend the right amount of time on our set-ups and making sure we can get all the shots we need.
Biggest Festivals: Hitting the big Oscar accredited festivals like Sundance and LFF is a fantastic way of getting exposure for Forget Me Not, but also comes with a hefty price tag. Our full budget allows for this. Please do keep supporting the campaign and sharing the link on social media.
There are still some fantastic rewards to be claimed (including becoming a Film Extra for the day and even Associate Producer credits!).
Let's make the absolute best version of Forget Me Not!
We’re incredibly grateful for the generosity of everyone who has pledged their support, given advice and shared our campaign page on social media so far, but let's press on and make Forget Me Not the film it deserves to be! This film is going to get made – and it’s all thanks to YOU!
Forget Me Not is a fantastical tale, where a mysterious, lost little girl strikes up an unexpected friendship with a forlorn, homeless man, in the hope of bringing peace to her family in time for Christmas.
Set in the present day, Forget Me Not is a live action drama with a nod to the supernatural. It’s written and directed by Nick Goulden.
It's a story about love, loss, hope and finding peace told in Nick's unique way. It’s a story which all of us can relate to, reminding us not just to think of others and to do good for those who are in need, but that all of us need help from time to time.
“It’s a cold December in the run up to Christmas. Under a Brutalist flyover at a busy junction, people hurry on their way from somewhere else to somewhere else…”
Somehow stuck there is a little girl and a homeless man. A third character is a kind-hearted man, who buys the homeless man coffee on his way to work every morning. Forget Me Not is the story of how these three people, all in their own way lost and without hope, struggle to make sense of their lives and find their way.
We discover that the girl is desperate to get something important done by Christmas Day, and the only person who can help her is a homeless man who otherwise takes no interest in anything. Before he can help her, she must help him reconnect with a world he has abandoned. But how can she succeed, and will it be in time to bring comfort to those she is trying to help?
Please support the film and find out!
A SHORT VIDEO SHOWCASING THE MOOD OF FORGET ME NOT:
So, why Forget Me Not? For me, the film explores themes and ideas that are relevant to all of us. We’ve all been at points in our lives where everything seems hopeless. Most of us have others we can lean on support, but when it seems that there is no-one who can help, it is difficult not to despair.
Forget Me Not is fundamentally a tale about hope prevailing over despair. The central message that, ‘through helping others we ultimately help ourselves’, is a strong and beautiful one that holds true not just in the story, but in life as well.
If you like warm-hearted films with a positive message, this film is for you. If Amélie still makes you smile, if you thought Il Postino was beautiful and if you’ve got a soft spot for Little Miss Sunshine then Forget Me Not is for you.

Shooting a short film like Forget Me Not is an ambitious feat, and we can't do it without the generous support of the Kickstarter community!
OUR BUDGET BREAKDOWN:
CAST & CREW - The producers and director are investing their time in Forget Me Not because it’s the only way it can get made, but we don’t expect anyone on our crew (apart from the Director and Producer) to work for free. Everyone on our team gets paid, albeit at a reduced rate, from the runners to the lead actor. No one can work on an empty stomach so we’ll also need to feed and water our cast and crew to keep them going.
LOCATION - As befits the style of Forget Me Not, our film sets are real locations. We need to pay for permission to film there, find somewhere to base our team and equipment, and make sure everything in our busy urban locations is safe and secure.
CAMERA & LIGHTING EQUIPMENT - As important as it gets. We’ve been lucky enough to call in some favours, but we’ll still need extra gear to shoot the film, including cameras, lenses, lights and grip equipment. We’re aiming to shoot on anamorphic lenses which will give the film a beautiful look, but they’re rare and much in demand. We’ll also need two big vans for four days to transport our crew, their kit (and to shelter in if/when it rains!).
PRODUCTION DESIGN - Your support will help our Production Designer convincingly create Christmas in large exterior locations and make them feel as real and fantastical as possible. Supported by our hair & makeup designer who will be working closely with a costume designer to give our actors the look and feel we need to achieve.
POST PRODUCTION - Again, we’ve been lucky enough to call in some favours, but your support will help us with those crucial few weeks in post: editing, grading, and perfecting the all important sound design.
INSURANCE & CONTINGENCY - As experienced filmmakers we know there are always surprises no matter how much you prepare for a shoot and even after minimising the risks it's necessary to pay a little extra to insure the production and the people involved. Contingency will help us cover any unforeseen extras, and any left over will go towards post-production to help bring the best film we can to the Kickstarter community and our generous supporters.
KICKSTARTER & STRIPE FEES - Kickstarter collect 5% of total funds raised - but we couldn't do it without them! On top of that, payment processing fees are 3% + £0.20 per pledge and pledges under £10 have a discounted micropledge fee of 5% + £0.05 per pledge. These processing fees go to Stripe - Kickstarter's payment processing partner. We've made sure to work this into our budget so we know exactly where we are before we even get started.
Forget Me Not is in pre-production. We’ve found the key locations, designed the film’s aesthetic, planned the shoot, and pulled together most of our crew. During the campaign we’ll be continuing this process by: casting the actors, locking down secondary locations, and pulling together the production design. Shooting dates dependable on cast availability but we are hoping to shoot by the end of Autumn 2017. By Christmas 2017 we expect to have a completed film to show you all – and to send out on the festival circuit.
It’s also worth saying that we only receive the funding for Forget Me Not if and when we hit our full target. So, we’ve started with a lower and more achievable goal of £10,000 – but we hope to push on and raise the full amount of £16,500.

Risks and challenges
The scale and ambition of Nick’s script will be our biggest challenge – but that’s what makes it so exciting! Shooting in real locations, we are pushing the short film to its limits in order to make something extraordinary.
Logistically, after months of development and planning, we are well set up, and are lucky to have the advice and support of some seasoned pros.
This will be a Keen City production. Keen City is a fully insured production company who is used to dealing with the ups and downs and risks of putting a project like this together.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
