Almost.. we have run out of money to finish the film..we still need to do the music composition and online post production, as well as archival clearances. The money we raise will be for this finishing of the film.
We already have a lot of interest in the film and are currently sending it out to festivals as we plan for a world premier in spring of 2013. We need your help to get us through these last costly stages.
ABOUT THE FILM
No twentieth-century figure has moved as easily and confidently, and had a more profound effect in the worlds of literature, drama, film, politics, historical debate, and the culture wars than Gore Vidal. He was a brilliant novelist, political essayist, literary critic, historian, scenarist, television pundit, political activist and candidate. As a raconteur, lecturer and platform performer he was rivaled only by Mark Twain. Vidal was an American icon, yet an intimate, accurate picture of the man has eluded us until now.
Gore Vidal’s professional life spanned more than 50 years of American politics and letters. His overview of the current state of the Republic and the health of US democracy was unique and incisive. His return to America marked the last great stage in his creative career and the film represents an extraordinary opportunity to share his view on America in the twenty-first century.
A portrait of the last lion of the great age of American liberalism will find a large audience. He was one of the leading intellectual rogues of the American media. Vidal ran for Congress twice and on radio and TV, Vidal continued to be a kind of statesmen-inexile, writing best-selling novels and commentary on the American socio-political scene. Few have participated in or commented on so many great events, and few have known more influential people.
This intimate documentary dramatizes Gore Vidal’s personal life and political views and his concern at the present state of American democracy using new interviews and historical footage from his famous appearances on television and talk shows over the last fifty years.
This film balances Gore's personal life and political views as we examine a man who lived at the center of 20th century culture and politics in the US. From his friendships with Eleanor Roosevelt and President Kennedy to his famous debates with William Buckley and Christopher Hitchens. Through new interviews and historical footage, Gore draws dramatic conclusions on the fate of the nation in the modern age. This is an unashamedly opinionated film.
We also pulled back the veil on Gore’s unique personal life. For years Gore led a very private life with his long time companion Howard Austen. We gained access to this world as Gore discussed his views on love and companionship.
