WHY THIS BOOK?
Writing this book has been a 5 year project! In it, I have tried to tackle some crucial issues for Western society and Western churches.
We live in what is increasingly a culture of suspicion. The 20th Century has left us with a devastating legacy of the abuse of power in an increasingly complex world. We therefore do not trust those in power, nor the institutions (like the church) which people might once have turned to for refuge and restoration. And we are understandably fearful of ideologies and dogmas which were once promoted as the ultimate answers.
A Wilderness of Mirrors analyses how we have got to this point, and how we can do something about. And the great irony is that by going back to the life and work of Jesus of Nazareth we can find what is perhaps the only escape route from the vortex of suspicion. He uniquely offers a total inversion of how human cultures have tended to wield power - and thus lays down the gauntlet for people today to do the same. How different the world would be if they did...!
HOW YOU CAN HELP!
So after all this time, I naturally want people to read it! And if that's going to happen, we need to get the word out. But because of the pressures on the publishing industry around the world, more and more is being expected of authors. And so I'm having to do nearly all of the marketing myself! And that costs money.
Will you help me to cover the costs of:
- Flights in the USA, and other touring expenses for events currently being arranged in a number of cities (Philadelphia, Washington DC, New York, Grand Rapids, Dallas)
- Costs of professionally-made dedicated website and three promotional videos (of which the first is attached to this campaign).
- Supporting a UK speaking tour in the 2nd half of 2015, in partnership with singer Andy Flannagan. The hope is that these evenings wouldn't just promote the book, but help all who come (whether churchgoers or not) to engage with the ideas and be surprised by the radical life of Christ. Dates and venues to be arranged, but costs will be incurred by transport, advertising, possible venue charges, accommodation (unless staying with friends).
The more this campaign raises, the more we will be able to do on the tour!
Risks and challenges
The book is in the very last stages of production - and will be arriving in the US warehouse sometime in April. It will be launched in the USA on May 18th and in the UK on July 7th.
Many of the expenses have already been incurred (eg for the website and videos), so this campaign is primarily to recoup those costs. Plans for the tour are underway, so the key issue will be a matter of delivering on those plans.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
