I am a cellist, singer and songwriter in the folk tradition, and I'm currently at work on a project that I've been dreaming about for years: making a solo album. My hope is to raise the funds to record and release a full-length, professional album of my original work as well as covers by artists who have inspired me, including Emmylou Harris, Gillian Welch and Townes van Zant.
I'm very excited to be working on my first record with sound engineer and producer Lee Howard at Mystery Machine Studios in Portland. The funds you contribute will go towards covering costs for studio time and reimbursing other musicians on the record, as well as printing and promotion for the album.
In 2009, I recorded an EP with my duo, Walking Home, which includes one of my original works. You can have a listen at www.myspace.com/walkinghomemusic. Cellist and singer Anna Fritz, who is also featured on these tracks, will be making quite a few appearances on the album.
Last fall, I had the opportunity to record one of my tunes live at a Daytrotter session with the Portland Cello Project. You can hear it at http://www.daytrotter.com/dt/portland-cello-project-concert/20031091-3738241.html. The song is called “Remedy”.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read a bit about my project, and happy listening!
P.S. The video shown above was shot by David Pitz at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Philadelphia in November 2009 and features Anna Fritz, Kevin Jackson, Douglas Jenkins and Allegra Matthews of the Portland Cello Project.
