Throttle Opener: An Innovative One-Handed Bottle Opener
A bottle opener cleverly redesigned, small enough to fit on top of a bottle cap and efficient enough to easily use one-handed.

Opening a bottle is an odd movement if you think about it. For such a small cap, there is a lot of arm and wrist movement. I wanted to create a minimal and unique bottle opener that was also extremely easy to use. But simply making a bottle opener smaller can reduce mechanical efficiency. I took a step back to think about how the hand works and redesigned the opener to take advantage of grip strength. By locking the thumb and gripping the neck of the bottle, the cap pops right off with the Throttle Opener.
Minimal and different...that was the goal. There are some wonderful openers that poke holes in cans or double as a tool, this is not one of them. Removing key chains and screwdrivers was essential to create a bottle opener that can sit discreetly anywhere and still be efficient. Although compact, it’s never hard to find, Throttle Opener sticks to any magnetic surface due to the built-in powerful rare earth magnet. Place Throttle Opener everywhere you like to enjoy a cold one and it will always be where you left it.
The design and testing work is complete. Using 3D printing or machining to make Throttle Opener would be cost prohibitive. Through research, I've determined that the best manufacturing method is to use a die-casting process (pouring melted aluminum into a mold). Die-casting requires a large upfront payment to cover the creation of the mold. This cost is difficult to justify unless I am able to order hundreds of units, which is why I am turning to the Kickstarter community. Risks and challenges
Throttle Openers are currently 3D printed in steel but the final product is die cast aluminum and will have a different finish than the opener in the video and images. I have worked with the manufacturer and believe the Natural and Black Matte finishes shown in the image above will be very close if not identical to the final product. Also, I have done my best to make the transition from steel to aluminum smooth by stress testing the model and having it professionally redesigned to be die cast friendly. If there are problems with the final product, cosmetic or otherwise, I will be able to review and fix them when I received the first run samples, which could delay delivery.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
