George Kwame Baah still remembers what it was like to be barefooted in school and not by choice. Growing up in Akim-Oda, Ghana, his family was able to pay for his schooling but little else, including shoes. George came to the United States from Ghana, West Africa in the Spring of 2001 to study mechanical Engineering at the University of South Alabama with only $300 and no prearranged accommodation.
