YOU ARE TINKER, a fourteen year old autistic boy who has been turned into a zombie but has miraculously retained his humanity and wits. You are tasked with making a large journey across devastated land to reach the scientists you believe can help you. As you travel you begin to unravel the pasts of those who came before you and piece together your own story.
Freak was first conceptualized by former machinima director Christopher “Daemon” Arnold and Karl Garneau based on their own personal experiences and a mutual love for zombie landscapes. They noticed a lack of games featuring characters who had autism or fell upon the autism spectrum and decided to make steps to change that. They chose School of the Museum of Fine Arts Graduate and Microsoft ImagineCup 2010 Finalist Nadia Rodriguez to be their lead artist for both in game assets and cut scene animations and former producer for Drop Dead Confidential (the Radio Series), Jennifer Michelle Hauser, to head project management, production aspects and public relations. Thus, Crowned Daemon Studios was created with Freak positioned to be its first flagship game. Jenn also helped to bring on Southern New Hampshire University graduate Graham Bergeron as lead programmer and the immensely talented cult musician, Paul Wiele for the soundtrack.
Freak takes place five years after the collapse of the United States government. A lot has happened since that fateful time, and even more happened before. On your journey you will find testimonies from your friends and other survivors that allow you to witness a key moment of the outbreak and get a glimpse of what happened before the events of the game. The characters and events you will uncover are varied; from reformed bandits reminiscing about their pasts to border patrol guards and soldiers struggling to keep order along with many others. There are many stories here in the ruins of the old world...and they're up to you to find.
Steam Greenlight and Freak Community
Freak was launched on Steam Greenlight on April 21st and was officially greenlit on May 8th, only a little over two weeks later. During the greenlight process we listened to the community who gave us open and honest critique and made various changes to the game based on that feedback. As a game dev team, we take community feedback very seriously. We want to make sure that you guys are happy with the game you are spending your hard earned cash on! Through development we will be very open and honest about what is going on and invite your comments about how the game looks, feels and plays.

Risks and challenges
Making any sort of video game or software is a highly complex and time consuming process and we have personal experience with things taking longer than anticipated. All of our people are extremely taxed and overworked and with some of us working in different parts of the country, communication between us can be difficult. However, all of us have worked with each other in some capacity before and pulled through rough periods, including the year that it has taken to bring you all of this Kickstarter content! We're confident that we can bring it all together again for an amazing game.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
