About

The Last Pack: A Return to the Wild

The Last Pack is scheduled to begin filming this summer and into the fall—but it will only happen with your support! We need funding! On August 15, 2012, we launched this fundraiser, inviting you to help make this film possible. Every dollar brings us closer to our goal of filming North America’s most endangered land mammal. As thanks for contributing to this film, you will receive a token of our appreciation, even the option of being listed in the film’s credits. Help us tell the story of the Lobo, which once thrived in the Southwestern United States and Mexico!

The Story

In the wilds of the American Southwest, there is a current and ongoing struggle for survival. Beautiful landscapes of high alpine meadows surrounded by towering pines and aspens hide the tale, or shall we say "tail," that is currently unfolding in this generation. What once thrived in this habitat and was nearly hunted to complete extinction, is now attempting a comeback. We are asking for your generous support to help us tell the story of the Mexican gray wolf. Help us reach our goals of raising the funds necessary to complete this project. Ideally we would love to film a full leangth feature on this magnificent species, but instead, this short film will document the conservation of this animal through compelling cinematography and dedicated characters. Help us in reaching our goal to film these wolves, and visit our website at www.thelastpack.org for further information.

The Last Pack follows the attempts of the film team to capture unprecedented footage of wild Mexican gray wolves, the most endangered land mammal in all of North America. Embarking on their journey, wildlife enthusiast Alan Lacy and cameraman Dean Cannon are hoping to get a glimpse of the Lobo in their home territory. Months of preparation and research will lead them to eastern portions of Arizona, where the Lobo resides, attempting their comeback from an almost certain extermination. For one week, the two trek across the Blue Range Wolf Recovery Area through prime wolf habitat in search of the ghostly shadows from the Last Pack.

Meet the Director and Producer, Alan Lacy

Alan, born in California, has had a passion for wildlife as long as he can remember. As a child, he spent countless hours out among nature observing the animals of the countryside. When his family moved to Arizona, Alan attended Arizona State University where he studied architecture and conservation biology for two years before deciding to enter into the Aviation Industry. However, his love for wildlife was ever present, and he volunteered at Southwest Conservation and Educational Center, a facility for rehabilitation of injured and orphaned wild animals. He learned about the Mexican Gray wolves through his volunteering, and has been following their recovery ever since. Alan lives with his wife in North Phoenix and works for an aviation company, has his pilot’s license, and is coordinating all the efforts for this film project.

Meet the Director of Photography, Dean Cannon

Born in England, Dean Cannon grew up in the Sonora Desert of Arizona. At an early age Dean found a passion for flying and photography and finally traveled to Africa at 26 to work on a project for NTT Japan. There he found his calling and filled a position working for Animal Planet in Bangkok, Thailand. Since then, Dean has traveled throughout South East & Eastern Asia and Alaska working for clients such as Animal Planet, Discovery HD and National Geographic Channel. Beginning in 2009 Dean began filming bears in the city of Anchorage for PBS Nature and the National Geographic Channel. Working with Alaska Fish and Game Dean has traveled the entire state filming from the Alaskan Arctic to Brooks Camp in the southwest. Dean still flies and lives with his wife and daughter in Seattle, Washington. Please visit www.djcannon.com to see his amazing work!
