About this project
Little people are rad. But they’re only little for such a short space of time. Let them be little and dress them like kids.
Missed out on a tee or bodysuit? You can head to the website to be notified when they're available for purchase! x
The Smallest Tribe is an itty bitty Australian brand making insanely comfy kids clothes. It's about contributing positive change to the way we dress our kids and the way in which those clothes are manufactured. Since 2012, The Smallest Tribe has released limited edition collections of GOTS certified organic cotton, super soft and amazingly comfy kids clothes in sizes 1-5. The majority of the collections have been made right here in Cairns, by me, in the world’s tiniest tropical studio. Sometimes I invite our friends to play and they help us sew the shirts in an Ethical Clothing Australia certified workshop or print some of our fabric in their inner Sydney screen printing studio. The clothes have always focused on keeping kids comfy, free to move, able to explore and engage with their surroundings. The prints and surface art are bold, never serious, inspired by childhood and aim to fuel little imaginations everywhere.
GOTS stands for Global Organic Textile Standards and includes both ecological and social criteria through the entire supply chain. In simple terms this means from the moment the cotton seed is planted, right through to when you receive your shirt, environmental protection and working conditions meet a very high standard. It means workers in the factories who mill the fabric and those who make the garments have rights that are protected. They have a right to work reasonable hours, to be paid a living wage (not a minimum wage) and the right to bargaining. And, they work in factories where harmful chemicals and dyes are prohibited, which protects both them, and the environment.
With this Kickstarter campaign, we aim to move The Smallest Tribe from a home studio into full production in an Ethical Clothing Australia certified manufacturer right here in Australia, helping to provide local jobs at a time of economic uncertainty. We’ll be producing the always popular grey marle tees in sizes 1-5 and for the first time ever, will be bringing onesies into our line up! ALL THE EEEPS!! They’ll both be available in our SS 15/16 Jelly Beaches and Summer Confetti prints.
Your support of our Kickstarter campaign means you are using the power of your money to say NO to fast fashion and actively creating a difference in the textile industry. You are pledging to support production of garments that are made in ethical, safe, clean working conditions. You are saying NO to slave labour or CHILD labour. When you support The Smallest Tribe you know your child will not be wearing clothes made by a child in another country.
To help create a positive change, you can choose from a whole range of rewards up the top, on the right. You can pledge to preorder a tee or onesie in our Jelly Beaches or Summer Confetti print, or you can choose to preorder multiple pieces and outfit all the kiddos in your family in time for Summer. (Cute photos under the Christmas tree with all the cousins, anyone?!)

Sunshine Summer Confetti - Sizes 0-3 months, 3-6 months, 6-12 months
Minty Jelly Beaches - Sizes 0-3 months, 3-6 months, 6-12 months
After many requests from backers, customers and even my own kiddos, you'll now be able to get the tees in charcoal grey too! SO much twinning to be had with babies in bodysuits and kiddos in tees.
There are also some limited edition, hand painted messy bags lined with waterproof fabric which are perfect for wrangling messes while you’re out and about with little ones. Because let’s face it, kids are tiny filth machines. Messy bags also make beautiful, practical gifts for anyone and can be used as cosmetic bags, for storing cords and chargers while travelling, or a beacon of hope containing keys, wallet and phone in the bottomless pit of handbags everywhere. There are also tote bags for the grown ups who feel like they always miss out on the fun stuff – though your little people are probably going to steal this bag because it makes an awesome library bag and because kids rule the world and their general motto seems to be WE DO WHAT WE WANT.

By pledging to the campaign, not only are you helping to grow a small, indie Australian business dress even more active, inquisitive kiddos as they go about their busy days of play, you are also using the power of your money to help create positive change in the lives of others and the future of the textile industry.
This campaign will run until August 30. Once successfully funded, production is scheduled to begin in mid September. The tees and onesies should arrive in our Cairns studio by the last week in October and it is my intention to have them all shipped and on your kiddos by mid November, just in time for Summer and Christmas. (CHRISTMAS!!)
Thank you for watching, thank you for reading, thank you for pledging, thank you for sharing. Seriously, thank YOU! x
Risks and challenges
As with any sort of manufacturing, there is the possibility of delays in production, however we have taken steps to ensure this risk will be minimised. I've also allowed extra time in the production schedule and manufacturing with an Australian company greatly reduces the time it will take to arrive in my studio, ready to be shipped out to you.
All domestic parcels will be sent via Australia Post's Parcel Post system which means both you and I will be able to track your parcel to make sure it arrives.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
