A Better Burden: A Look Ahead & Behind!
Dear Kickstarter friends,I have been trying to start the first sentence of this update for literally about 20 minutes, but I keep on erasing it and starting over! It’s honestly hard to know where to begin...
A Burden Lifted:
I guess the best place to start would be to say - once again and as emphatically as I can - thank you. The campaign officially ended on Friday night, and we raised a total of $13,336, 166% of our original goal. Taken together with the money I had already earned and/or put away for this project, I believe we have enough to fully fund the recording, mixing, and mastering for 10 songs! This is such a burden lifted from our shoulders and such an answer to prayer. Instead of having to worry about earning back the money spent on this album, I can focus on sharing the Story, being more generous with my music, and perhaps I can even start working toward earning the money for the recording of Volume 2! I am truly humbled by your generosity and support, and I honestly couldn’t make this record without you. So, once again, thank you. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!
A Better Burden:
But even though the financial burden is lifted, I feel a new sense of responsibility. After all, this album is not just “mine”.... it belongs to all 131(!!!) of you! This is my new but oh-so-much-better “burden”. I am so thankful for this community. I am thankful that you are excited about this idea of sharing God’s Story through song. And I am excited to share this year-long journey with you, knowing that you are with me and behind me and even praying for me as I take this scary step of faith. Know that I will work hard to make sure the money is spent wisely, and that I will do my best to make an album that is worthy of your support and backing! I can’t wait to get to work!
So, What’s the Plan?Speaking of getting to work, below you’ll find my tentative plan for the next year. As Kickstarter backers, you will be the first ones “in the know” and behind the scenes during this year. I seriously can’t wait to get started!
- June - Aug: New baby hormonal craziness and joy!
- Sep - Dec: Pre-production (song selection and fine-tuning, meetings with Josh the producer, artwork, etc.), begin house concerts and writing songs for backers
- Jan - March: Record, mix, and master album
- May or June 2013: Album Release!
Fun Kickstarter Facts:
This is going to be a busy year! In the next year or so, I’ll be....
- Giving away at least 356 physical copies of this CD to backers (and their missionary friends!)
- Writing up to 17 new songs from scripture, based on backers’ favorite passages and stories from scripture
- Playing up to 28 house shows for backers and the ministries they’re involved with!
- And much more!
FYI: Be on the lookout for surveys that will gather the information I need in order to send you your rewards! I’ll probably begin to send them in the fall.
In closing, I just want to say THANK YOU again. Between celebrating Kickstarter and waiting to meet baby #2 (any day now!), it really feels like Christmas around here! I am praising God for the amazing response to this project, and to this Kickstarter effort, which was a very scary step for me. I so look forward to sharing this next year with you (and to finally sending you the finished product in May or June of 2013!). I pray that the album will bless you and encourage you in the same way that you have blessed and encouraged me throughout this Kickstarter process (and beyond).
Thankful for each and every one of you,
Caroline (and Nick and Ellie)
P.S. - I may just have to send you a picture of this little boy when he arrives. I mean, what mom could resist the opportunity? :)
