Charlotte's hosting the Democratic National Convention this year, but what do you know about the Queen City?
The Charlotte Video Project
The Charlotte Video Project is an effort to catalog the Queen City’s culture through a series of short films. The goal is to boost the visibility of Charlotte’s grassroots communities by sharing captivating video stories about them before and during the Democratic National Convention, which Charlotte will host in September. Each short film sheds light on a cultural element in town, providing exposure for local organizations and the people who live here. As a whole, this project works to create a visual identity for Charlotte in the hearts and minds of people here in town and around the world.
There will be a TON of press in Charlotte working the DNC (some 15,000 or so). During that time, blogs, newspapers and news networks will all be invited to freely re-broadcast, re-post, retweet and remix any and all of our Charlotte-centric, Creative Commons content. Capitalizing on mainstream media penetration can put the CVP in front of an international audience. In order to maximize viewership, we will be promoting the CVP during the Convention in the Convention Center and in the arena, on the streets and everywhere between to show the world how great Charlotte is and why it is so.
Where We Are Now
So far almost all of the films have been shot, but now we need your help to finish the job. Through sponsorship, the CVP has already raised over $25,000. This money has gone toward covering labor and expenses needed to produce our content. We’re not done just yet though. We still need to finish post-production on the remaining videos and order promotional materials (stickers, t-shirts, postcards) with which to promote the CVP during the DNC.
This is where you come in.
Your donations will help cover the remaining post-production expenses as well as promotional materials our street team will need to properly promote the CVP.
Thank you's, t-shirts, cards and an invitation to our post-Convention screening are in store for those who donate $100 or less. Additionally, some of the characters from our films have very graciously chipped in to help our Kickstarter reach its goal. A donation of $500 or more will get you dinner for two at Harvest Moon Grille; two tickets to an Actor's Theatre of Charlotte performance, 4 VIP passes to the Carolina Raptor Center, a wood sculpture from artist, Rick Lazes; or a personal styling session from women's boutique owner, Cigi Guz.
By the People, For the People
The Charlotte Video Project is a community initiative, so we turned to KickStarter to ensure this will be a project by the people for the people. We appreciate your help and please – spread the word! Don’t forget to check out our YouTube page to see the videos we’ve already finished, and if you have any questions, feel free to contact us!
