Das Horn Status

Dear Friends and Backers,

Our production run is still cranking away. All of the horns are almost finished. Unfortunately, during the production run, our factory found an issue as the steel rings were beings assembled. We spent a little extra time resolving the issue, and it’s added a bit more time to our delivery schedule.

Das Horn is tentatively scheduled to arrive August 24nd. We know it's been a longer journey then we envisioned, and we really appreciate you bearing with us as we navigate the first production run.

The good news - the end is near and soon we will all be raising our Das Horns together. Thanks again for supporting us. We can't wait to deliver, in every sense.

David and Alex

Oh, man! Soo looking forward to toasting with this thang!

I'd rather have a great product that takes awhile than a product that comes right away and could have defects. I'm so pumped! Looking forward to my first drink from this. Thank you!

Mr. Russell Langston, couldn't agree with you more. While browsing the different design/product ideas on Kickstarter, it's easy to sometimes forget that we're not perusing a catalog of tangible products to be purchased outright. When contributing to ideas on Kickstarter, don't do it with the mindset of "I want to buy that", do it with the mindset of "I want to support that, and hey, if it makes it, I wouldn't mind having this [enter pledge reward thingy here]".

That being said, there have been delays, but I'm glad that there are updates to follow suit. I'm feeling pretty darn confident that this product will see the light of day, despite the delays. Sure, I can't wait to get my actual tangible product, but once it arrives, and I fill it to the brim with my favorite frosty beverage, my first thought won't be "Gee I've waiting a long time for this cool product". It will be more a "Gee, I'm really happy to see that those fellows made it".

So you missed my birthday party. But I'll give you a pass based on your promise to get it done by the end of August. In the meanwhile I have disembarked from my battleship with all the saksens, friesians, bataverians, and kelts whom were ready for some eye to eye with you. Don't miss the new deadline because I won't be able to avoid the eurepean mayhem coming down on your Viking German name bearing drinking vessels producing asses. Proost

Thank you for your explanation. I feel much better and even more informed now. I think if you said in the update what you told me we'd all feel better but you got it out which is what counts. Many thanks and good luck with customs!

    6. Russell Langston on July 18, 2013

Firstly I just want to congratulate David and Alex, you guys are doing something completely new...*cough cough* first kickstarter. R

Really the only other thing I have to say to everyone else here is this, you didn't order anything, you invested your money in a possible idea that was not necessarily going to come through. Stop being all butt hurt because they don't have Amazon Prime two day shipping. Yes there were many delays, but you are receiving something from your investment, so shut up and go bitch on Reddit. Enjoy your horns!

I just want to get wasted using my well-deserved Das Horn.

    8. Das Horn 2-time creator on July 16, 2013

@Richard Kempter We found out about the ring slipping problem about 2 weeks ago. We didn't post an update at that point in time because we didn't know if we'd have to completely retool the top or just modify our existing tool. Fortunately, we just had to modify our existing tool.

Just to clarify, the Das Horns are arriving at our warehouse in Dallas, Texas on August 24th. Depending on where you live, you'll have your Das Horn within a few days from then. As for the "tentative" comment, I'll go into more detail for you. We're a first time importer and as such, there is about a 1/4 chance our freight container containing the Das Horns may be inspected by US customs. Our logistics partner tells us that it's unlikely, but it does happen. If the cargo is inspected it could add anywhere from a day to several days to our schedule. On our end, we've done everything we need to in terms of making sure our documentation is in order.

Sometimes this is how it goes. I know informing us of delays must be painful, but bad news doesn't improve with age- increasing the frequency of updates until the project completes would help calm frustration.
No new updates? No big deal, tell us a joke, but dead air is... well it's dead air guys.

Thanks for the update, and lets hope Tenative firms up to something more definite.

    10. Mike Cahill on July 16, 2013

Thanks for the update Dave and Alex! Congrats on all your hard work in producing a totally unique and quality product! Can't wait to receive mine!

I'll start off positive and thank you for the update. Any updates, good or bad, keep us backers informed.
However, I'm getting a bit frustrated with these delays. In the June update you said all was well and they were just like your January prototypes and we'd have them in July. Now there is a ring slipping problem. When did you find this out and not tell us?
I want this to succeed but am losing faith. I hope to get these by Christmas, sooner would be great. I don't go to Burning Man but honestly don't think you'll have them here by Aug. 24 because you say "tentatively scheduled to arrive" giving you room for yet another delay.

Sorry for the negativity because I want your company to succeed and have my Horn in hand.

    12. Charles Tanner Malone on July 16, 2013

So do we get a formal apology or something? A bottle opener? I think the people from the kickstarter orders should get something for being patient. I ordered this for a friends birthday in April as well but was happy I could use it over summer with him but now we are both going to be gone to college by the time they arrive so we won't get to use them together...

    13. David on July 16, 2013

Also: Since Juan Lozano doesn't seem to want his order anymore--instead of shoving them where the sun don't shine, as he so elegantly suggested, please send his order to me! :)

    14. David on July 16, 2013

Well, if nothing else, you guys will have a lot more manufacturing experience for your next project. Patience is a virtue--and i'm sure it's far more frustrating for you guys than it is for us. Keep pushing, the end is near!!

    15. Happy Calderon on July 16, 2013

Yes I'll pick mine up @ Burning Man. More info please....

    16. Mark Hogenson on July 16, 2013

Yes, I would like to pick mine up at burning man.

    17. Das Horn 2-time creator on July 16, 2013

@Burning Man Folks: If we have to send your Das Horns down with some of our friends who are attending burning man, would you be willing to meet up with them in person to pick them up?

@Pamela Bonge We didn't receive your message. If you want to add another Horn, you can still add one via I'll PM you a code, so you don't have to pay for additional shipping.

I really wanted two of these but wasn't able to order on the backers site. Asked you again in February but no one responded. On your next delay still, no one had time to respond. Then on your next announcement of delay again, no one bothered. If I get even one, EVER I will be surprised. But, if someone bothers to get back with me, I would like two of these. (...sigh)

Are you guys planning to add anything else as an apology for the extra long delay on delivery?

Damn, I bought this hoping they would be done in time for me to take mine to Burning Man. I leave the 27th of August, any chance of getting it before then?

    22. Happy Calderon on July 16, 2013

So much for getting it before Burning Man

    23. Das Horn 2-time creator on July 15, 2013

Douglas - The issue was that the steel rings were rotating on the horns. We only discovered it during our production run and the issue has sense been resolved. Manufacturing a product isn't an exact science and as we found out, involves a lot of trial and error.

    24. Douglas Ortiz
      on July 15, 2013

Really?! An issue with the steel rings; which you used to replace the steel lips most people wanted, and you originally advertised, because you said there would be a production issue. What a joke.

Das Horn - I understand that you encountered issues along the way. But darn, keep us better informed.

Kevin - The best way to inform us of an address change is to send us a private Kickstarter message.

As long as it's ready in time for Viking football! SKOL!

If our address is changing, what is the best way to inform you before shipping?
