Das Fang is a set of 4 shot glasses designed as a launch pad for your next party. Each glass is designed in the shape of a wolf's fang, to remind you that your party animal is always lurking just below the surface, ready to be unleashed at a moment's notice. Harness the power of the wolf with Das Fang.
Each one is molded and then hand shaped out of high quality glass. The stand is designed with weight and poise as if to say, "here are your shotglasses, ready always!"
The Glass Fang
We knew that Das Fang needed to be made out of glass. Not just any glass. We wanted a very specific white glass with a slight translucency. This makes it look white from the outside but allows you to see the liquid inside at the same time. We were initially told that it would be difficult to find what we wanted, and should make it out of plastic. We held firm to our initial concept, and decided to not settle for anything less than the glass that we wanted.
Two years ago, we created Das Horn, a modern version of the ancient drinking horn. The idea was simple; create a modern, well designed horn that resonates with people's desire for a more primal drinking experience. The response has been overwhelming. People have loudly declared that they want their drinking heritage! They want to hark back to a time before modern drink-ware had even been conceived of!
Das Fang will be another victory in our conquest of your barware. With this set, we aim to make boring shot glasses a thing of the past, and make THIS thing of the past your drinking future.
Design Means Everything
Das Fang is designed to be part of your home bar, and put on display. Design is very important to us so we spent a lot of effort getting exactly the right shape for the shot glasses, and figuring out exactly how to make a stand worthy of them. The glasses have the same timeless, and natural shape of its larger sibling, Das Horn.
While Das Horn was designed by studying bovine horns, Das Fang was designed after canine fangs. The top has a lip that was designed so that the drinking experience feels right. It also serves as an easy way to hold the glasses on the stand. The shape isn't just pretty, but actually serves a purpose: it's a lot easier and more natural to hold.
The stand holds four glasses upright for pouring, and allows you to take the glasses off and put them back on with ease. We went through countless prototypes to get the right shape for the collar that holds each fang. The surface of the outside was designed to emulate a hand-shaped material: another reference to primal objects that enhance the drinking experience.
- Hand finished glass
- Holds 1.5oz of your spirit of choice.
- Natural, fang shape.
- Dishwasher safe glass
- Display stand: 9.75" X 2.5" X 3.5"
- Rubber base
Finding the right glass maker proved challenging. We had to find a partner who could make exactly the right quality of white translucent glass that gives Das Fang its distinct look. After months of searching, we finally found the right glass and someone who could produce it. Each Das Fang is handmade so there are slight deviations in each. The “Das Fang” logo is then applied individually. The glass maker had to spend months figuring out the best way to make all of the details come together.
The stand is single piece from molded polymer. It has a rubber base that keeps it from sliding around.
We Need Your Help
We are now able to make the molds for the Das Fang glass and stand. We've already paid for them and had them made, but we still need help. Your Kickstarter contributions will help us pay for the first order!
If we can raise at least $40,000 with our Kickstarter campaign, we want to start offering the clear version of Das Fang as a reward. The money will allow us to purchase a full production batch of them. If we reach this goal, everyone who backed to get Das Fang will have the option of getting it in clear.
If we raise $60,000 or more, in addition to offering clear Das Fang, we want to start offering a clear Das Horn. This is something top secret that we have been working on in the lab. Its a dark tinted transparent horn with a 24oz capacity. It comes with a lid so you can avoid dreaded beer splash! It is even more expensive and ambitious to create than Das Fang but we really want to make it. If we reach this goal, everyone who backed us for $20 or more will have the option of getting the clear horn, tentatively dubbed "Obsidian" at a discounted early adapter price!
Risks and challenges
As we learned with Das Horn, tooling design is a complicated process that involves a lot of back and forth as well as minor tweaking before we can achieve production. We’ve been working with the manufacturer and have had several test runs to achieve our intended result. We are certain that we can and will make this product as shown. The biggest challenge now is getting it to our loyal supporters on time.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
