Gummie is Johannesburg's first online urban magazine
It is a vibrant range of interviews, reviews and reports published online, daily. New projects, stories of the past, music, politics, art, fashion and food — the whole city is in Gummie's focus. Johannesburg, or Joburg, or Jozi is the biggest city of South Africa and it lacks original writing about modern African culture. Gummie will fix that.

What will Gummie do?
Gummie will tell stories of people in Jozi. A young businessman transforming an industrial district, two sisters opening a restaurant and a new mayor in charge of the city — Gummie will be asking questions, analyzing and criticizing. Gummie will inspire and motivate.
Here is a simple example: this May first Craft Beer festival happened in Joburg. The only way to find out about it was a small event listing and a Facebook page. Three days after the fest there was a report on a local website. If you missed it — too bad.
Next time it happens Gummie will call 5 main brewers, organize a photo shoot (most of them are cool guys with beards) and chat to them about African beer, Boere sausages and the new era of small business in the country. Everything will be published a week before the festival — just like that Gummie announces the event and gives interesting people a chance to speak.
Obvious? — Yes! And no one does it here.
Besides, we will pick items of the day, write reviews on new spots, feature "5 Best" compillations and produce one big interview every week. There are so many inspiring stories in this city — unexplored, personal stories of success, challenges and devotion. Gummie will give Jozi a platform to tell them all.

Why does Joburg need Gummie?
Johannesburg is a developing city — in the most exciting sense. There are not many creative districts, a limited amount of events and a disturbed communication between the city government and citizens. But there are dozens of people who are making a difference. They open galleries and theaters, they draw political paintings and play good music. Press hardly tells about them.
Blogs, articles here and there, Facebook pages — information is very fragmented. Gummie will be a place to gather it all and pick the most interesting parts. We want Johannesburg to know it's heroes!

Why does Gummie need Kickstarter?
We have 2 goals on Kickstarter. First is — obviously — raise funds for Gummie's launch: create the final design, programming and promotion all over the town. And a launch party of course!
Second goal is finding soulmates. Now, Gummie's team is small but we believe that friends inevitably meet each other. If you want to contribute email us on gummiethemag@gmail.com. To stay in the loop, "like" Gummie on Facebook and check out for updates.

Rewards
Buttons, tees and tote bags are just the beginning — above that we are introducing Gummie's collaboration with South-African band Desmond and The Tutus. Guys are kindly supporting this Kickstarter project and giving away copies of their new album. Each copy will be exclusively signed and shipped straight from the heart of South Africa. The album is called Mnusic, it's cool and you can watch a music video from it here:

And more!
