The year is 2117 on our Earth. One hundred five years ago, the seraphs (angels) rained plagues down upon the world, fulfilling some of the
apocalyptic predictions in the Book of Revelations and the Dead Sea
Scrolls. Only, the world didn't end as most Christians expected.
Instead, five-sixths of Earth's population died in the plagues and
resulting wars, and a mini-ice age followed.
Yet still mankind has survived -- with some differences.
Some children born just after the plagues gained an unusual ability: they could wield leftover creation energies, or "magic," as the common folk called it. These neomages in turn had children, resulting in the half-breed kylen (half seraph) and mules (half human), and mages. Now these races have inherited the Earth. But for how long?
Deep within mountains, underneath cities, and in abandoned wastelands, the forces of evil are brewing, building their numbers to continue the age-old war with the Light. These demons and their dragon masters won't stop fighting until the world is theirs.
Can the players stop them? Time will tell.
What is Rogue Mage?
The Rogue Mage Roleplaying Game and World Book is based on the NY Times bestselling author, Faith Hunter’s apocalyptic fantasy trilogy Bloodring, Seraphs, and Host published by Roc / Penguin. The game books contain new fiction in the form of several vignettes and a complete short story about Thorn St. Croix. The Rogue Mage roleplaying game takes you deeper into the world of Thorn, and also lets you play neomages, kylen, humans, and mules in the battle against the Darkness. Additionally, the game reveals how magic works in the Faithverse, and details how other parts of the world are faring after the apocalypse.
The Rogue Mage RPG is written by Christina Stiles, Faith Hunter, and Raven Blackwell, and it's edited by Spike Y Jones. Christina Stiles is the author/co-author of Unhallowed Halls, Faery's Tale, and the Village of Briarton. Faith Hunter is the author of the original fantasy trilogy, and she’s included some vignettes and a complete short story in the game book. Raven Blackwell is a fan-favorite author of magic systems. And, Spike Y Jones, is the Origins-Award-nominated editor of Testament: Roleplaying in the Biblical Era and Faery’s Tale.
The Rogue Mage game uses only a 20 sided dice (d20) to play. The game system uses the world’s most popular roleplaying game rules set for superhero games, modified for ease of play. Character creation is through point buy, and the system contains no classes.
What Have We Done?
The Rogue Mage RPG project started 4 1/2 years ago. It was a personal project of Faith Hunter and Christina Stiles, initially. As the game mechanics grew, Raven Blackwell was brought on board to help write it, and Spike Y Jones was brought on to edit it.
So much information was collected and included in the initial game book that we decided to split the game into two books. We now have a Player's Handbook, (the main game book and world book) which is about 98% complete, and a Game Master's Guide, which is about 80% complete.
Christina Stiles has been playtesting Rogue Mage at gaming conventions for the past 2 years.
Why Do We Need Your Help?
We are entering the final stages of writing and editing. We need to have artwork as well as layout and design done before we can send it to the publisher. This costs money that we don't currently have. We need your help with this to wrap this project up so that we can get it published and into the hands of the fans.
What Do I Get For My Donation?
We are giving PDF copies of the game books, Rogue Mage t-shirts, signed copies of the Rogue Mage novels, signed copies of the Jane Yellowrock series, signed paperback copies of both game books, a private game with 5 of your friends run by Christina Stiles at one of the cons this year, and dinner with Faith Hunter for you and a guest at one of the cons she will be attending this year..
Mike Pruette, Faith Hunter's webmaster and artist, has been brought in to help get this project completed. He has designed the Official Rogue Mage Logo and created custom crafted leather Rogue Mage armbands and book covers for some of the tier incentive rewards.
Faith Hunter, when researching skills for Thorn when she wrote the novels, became a lapidary artist. She is offering pieces of handcrafted jewelry at some of the tiers.
Need More Incentives?
If the project reaches 10K, Faith will be adding a free ebook of Rogue Mage short stories to all patrons contributing at the Second Unforeseen ($65+) level or higher. Christina Stiles will author one short story in the book.
