New Environment Artist

A while ago we decided to hire an additional environment artist to help us build the Sui Generis game world. We advertised the position and received over 100 applications, we selected the best applicants and asked them to do an art test, we then interviewed those with the best submissions and finally selected one artist to join our team. His name is Leonid Kuzyakin.

Incidentally Leonid was one of our Kickstarter backers with a significant contribution. This already told us he was passionate about the project and we very much liked everything we heard during the interview. Leonid shares our views on game design and his education gives him a solid understanding of architecture and its history, which fits perfectly with our attention to detail and authenticity. As for his artistic skills we'll let his work speak for itself:

This is Leonid's art test submission, rendered in our engine. A basic reference image was provided, the broken modular feature was added by his own initiative.

This is the first model Leonid developed for Sui Genris, also rendered in our engine. It is the first of a series of buildings for a village environment. All textures are original work made by Leonid for this environment.

Leonid adapted very quickly to our art style and methods, we are really pleased with the results and to have him join our team. Welcome to the team Leonid!

Due to global warming and the state of the fish market in Cornwall... Nevermind.

With the exception of Leonid, we're all living and working in the same house. We're extremely careful with money and we put every penny of our own we can get hold of into the game, our families are helping us a little too. Unfortunately we had to put Leonid on a shorter term contract than we would have liked because we're not sure we will be able to pay him for longer. It's very tight but we're staying within our budget. A bigger budget would allow us to pay more people to do more and faster but we have to make do. As we originally said, this might mean postponing some features until after release when money from sales will allow us to continue working on the game, which we anyway plan to do indefinitely.

Dear Sui Generis team, with the recent news of Clang developers underestimating their development costs when achieving 500k darget, where does your team stand in this?

160k seems quite a small amount by today's standards and your vision is quite ambitious. Have you been able to keep your development costs low or do you think you might have to look for a second phase of funding?

Great update. The new artist's work really fits in the feel of previous footage we've been shown. It looks like it didn't take much time for him to properly integrate into the work ethic of SG.

Excited for the next upcoming video!

Keep up the good work :)

Even his name is fitting to the setting of the game. Leonid Kuzyakin. Maybe I'll name my first character that.
