About this project
Kitty Ravencraft, a beautiful and magical young witch, is the star of her own popular comic book. When her greedy, publicity-starved publisher wants to increase interest in her comic book, he does what many comic book publishers do nowadays... he sets out to kill his main character, Kitty! Even worse, he decides to REALLY spike sales by killing the REAL Kitty in REAL life! The question is though... how do you kill a witch? "DIE, KITTY! DIE!" is a funny, exciting, and often sexy story about a girl caught in both the supernatural world of witches, and the super-crazy world of comics!
DAN PARENT and FERNANDO RUIZ. WHO ARE THESE GUYS?
Some of you may not know us but we've been in the comic business for over twenty years. We've produced many popular, high-selling comics for other publishers, e.g. Archie Meets Kiss, Archie Vs Predator, Felix the Cat, etc. Over the years, we've often talked about the possibility of doing something together that is creator owned, and the timing for this has finally arrived. "Die Kitty Die!" will be a collaborative effort where we'll share writing and art duties. This will be our first joint effort under own new label, Astrocomix (it just sounds better than Parent & Ruiz comics, you know?) We hope this venture will prove popular enough that we can produce more books and possibly launch more projects! You can read more about us individually at our own web-sites: danparent.com and fernandoruizeverybody.com And for more Kitty info there's diekittydie.com and her Facebook page here
WHAT ARE WE TRYING TO FUND HERE?
With this campaign, we are looking to fund the printing of the first "Die, Kitty Die!" collected trade. We say collected as our plan is to first release this trade as four 24+ page digital issues that will be delivered to backers on a monthly basis until the printed trade is ready to ship. Each issue will include 20 page of story, funny ad pages, fashion pages, pin-ups, AND variant covers produced by our very talented and accomplished friends in the comics business. We feel this route will satisfy both print and digital fans.
We have set a lean, realistically-attainable goal of US$25, 000. This will help us pay for a print run of one thousand copies of the first trade, help us pay the printing of the art cards and posters we are offering, pay our collaborators/contributors, AND of course, cover the shipping cost for about half the print run. Speaking of collaborators inks will be handled by artists extraordinaire J. Bone and Rich Koslowski. Colors will be handled by Dan and amazing color artist Shouri. Other contributors will include webcomics pioneer and creator of Menage à 3, Gisèle Lagacé, the fantastic Phil Jimenez, and pop culture artist phenomenon Glen Hanson! And the incredible Darwyn Cooke will be doing the cover to the trade!
Here's some sample art from the first trade:
Along the way, you'll meet the nutty characters who inhabit Kitty's world. You'll meet her friends Rudy and Mara and her comic book co-stars like the funny phantom, Dippy the Dead-Kid and the fiery fiend, L'il Satan!) Plus, a whole slew of off the wall characters from the entire history of "Kitty Comics". Some good. Some bad. Some VERY bad.
If our supporters are especially generous with us, and we exceed our goal, we will reward everyone by growing our project to include more story pages in our collected trade. Gisèle Lagacé & J. Bone already agreed to provide additional material if this happens. Exceeding our goal could also lead to a limited hardcover edition, and more goodies!
Before getting into the rewards, we would like to thank you for your time, and send a shout-out to all the fans we've met at conventions and other venues. Many of you have become cherished friends, and very loyal supporters. We hope you'll follow us on this very personal and dear venture. Kitty is our own creation, and it makes this campaign a very personal and important undertaking for us. Your support means everything to us. Also! Big thanks to Justin M. Salvato for putting our video together. You did a great job, Justin, and helped these two cartoonists get their message across!
ADD- ON INSTRUCTIONS:
Risks and challenges
We are comic book veterans with collectively over forty-plus years of experience in producing and publishing comic books. We have worked for numerous publishers and we have both published our own independent ventures. In order to keep our financial goals as low and as attainable as possible, we are not paying ourselves for own own efforts in this project. We will be producing "Die, Kitty! Die" as we maintain our output for other comic book publishers and clients. Our goal is to produce the Kitty series throughout the Spring of 2016 and have the collected trade volume by the Summer convention season later that same year. We are both battle-weary veterans who are no strangers to tight deadlines and a high workload. We are confident in our time table and are looking forward to sharing Kitty's stories with our friends and fans throughout 2016!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
