Due to your unbelievably generous support, we reached our goal in only six days! We've added some stretch goals to the rewards section as well as some instructions for add-ons (extra copies of the book, etc). So please keep spreading the word so we can make White Ash even better.
The smaller the town, the bigger the secrets...
White Ash is a new comic book series written by Charlie Stickney featuring stunning artwork from Conor Hughes and breathtaking colors from Fin Cramb. The forty-eight page first issue is packed with fantasy, horror, and forbidden romance, set against the backdrop of a small mining community in Western Pennsylvania. If you’re a fan of Supernatural, Twin Peaks or Lord of the Rings, you’re going to love getting to know our mysterious town.
The story follows Aleck Zwerg, the frustrated but charismatic son of a coal miner, who long ago outgrew the bounds of what White Ash had to offer. Spurning a generational calling to work in the mine, Aleck’s been counting down the hours till he can get the hell out of town and head off to college.
But as the long awaited day of liberation arrives, and Aleck packs his car for Carnegie Mellon, disaster strikes.
The accident at the mine keeps Aleck in town for three more life-changing days. During which he sparks up a romance with the enigmatic Lillian Alden.
Unfortunately, Lillian's father, Thane, owns the coal mine (and pretty much the rest of White Ash) and under no circumstances would he ever approve the union of his daughter to the son of a miner.
Aleck and Lillian's forbidden flirtation turns dangerous when Aleck uncovers a secret about his family that changes everything he knows about himself, the people around him, and the town of White Ash.
Furthermore, if Aleck leaves, there will be no one left to protect the people of White Ash from an ancient evil that’s returning.
And that’s only in the first issue. There are so many, many more surprises in store and we can’t wait to share them with you!
Really. We can't wait.
So we're going to start right now. Here's a preview of the first five pages.
We hope you enjoyed that little taste. What's that, you want some more? Well, thanks to the White Ash Chamber of Commerce, we have a short "get to know our town" video. True, it's a bit dated, but it should give you a good sense of what life is like in our idyllic little mining community.
Where The Funds Will Go
Money raised will go toward artist fees, printing, backer rewards and shipping of the first issue. And if we're lucky enough to surpass our goal, any additional funding will go towards creating new rewards or be put directly back into the book in the form of additional pages, and production of future issues. No one is looking to get rich here, (otherwise we wouldn't be doing comics) we just want to ensure that we can produce an amazing high-quality comic book series that our backers will enjoy for years to come.

Stretch Goal #2 ($10,500) Bookmark Time

Stretch Goal #3 ($12,000) Bigger Is Better
We’re adding four more pages to the book. This will give us a chance to showcase a bit more of Conor and Fin’s amazing artwork. Everyone wins on this one. We're up to 52 now people.
Stretch Goal #4 ($13,000) Stuck on You
It’s magnet time. Once we hit this mark, every backer who was receiving something in the P.G.O.F.M., will also receive an exclusive White Ash magnet. Feel free to stick this on your refrigerator or wherever else you have a bit of exposed metal — no judging.
Stretch Goal #5 ($13,500) Kick Some Ash
T-shirts anyone? Once we hit this mark, we will unlock a new pledge tier where you can get a "Kick Some Ash" T-shirt as a reward in addition to the book. Plus, every backer who pledged at the $75 or higher level, will also get a T-shirt added to their reward package for free. For our lower pledge tier backers, T-shirts will also be available as an add-on reward.
Stretch Goal #6 ($14,000) BIGGEST IS EVEN BETTER
If we’re lucky enough to hit this mark, we’re going to add another four pages to the book. (bringing it to an oversized 56 pages) And honestly, we’re going to need them. If we’ve raised this much, we’ll need more space for all of the names of our wonderful backers. We don’t want to have to list you all in a Times size 3 font.
After that… well, let’s just say figuring out additional stretch goals will be a problem that we’ll be more than happy to have. But if we do get close, and there’s a stretch goal/reward you’d like us to add, don’t be shy. Let us know. We’d love to make you happy.
Risks and challenges
The comic is already well underway. The script is finished. Pages are being drawn, inked and colored. Conor and Fin have chained themselves to their respective computers and vowed not to eat or sleep till the project is delivered.
Welllllllll, maybe they'll occasionally break for food (They're selfish that way). But not to worry, we've added plenty of buffer to our schedule, so we should be able to meet (or dare to dream, beat) our deadline. Charlie's managed running several animated television productions so he knows about getting things done on time.
Plus, we all survived the predicted Mayan Apocalypse of 2012. And luckily for backers of White Ash, there isn't another credible one on the books till 2200 (when the highly scientific study based on the British game of cricket, says the last human will be born before the start of that year). So even if they're right, we'll still have plenty of time to get our books out.
That said if any apocalyptic flood does hit, or even a less apocalyptic one, we'll keep you apprised of the situation. We want all our backers to be part of White Ash for a long time. To us, we see this as the beginning of a beautiful relationship. And if you've actually read all this, it seems that relationship has already begun. So thank you.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
