We are officially halfway there, join us in celebrating.

We have an amazing coincidence to tell you about: We are at the halfway mark—two weeks in—and we've just received a donation that puts us over the halfway mark financially! Is it luck, is it a good omen, we're not sure. But what could be a hair-raising experience has turned into a feel-good opportunity: people (you!) are being so generous.

Just yesterday, Barbara was getting a hair cut and told her hairdresser about the all or nothing nature of kickstarter. He admitted that he is not computer-savvy but had an idea: could he just comp her on the haircut and she'd use it towards the kickstarter? Thank you Traviss Kraisopraphong of Noel Sy!

Crowdsourcing is a brave new world for some of us. We've been making documentaries for a few decades, and this is our first time. Here's what we've learned: no matter what anyone says there are no rules.

We think, like the Ebonati Literati in the poster below that we have something to celebrate.  (2 of these autographed posters were given as rewards to generous donors--sorry, they're all gone!) Yes, that's Gwendolyn Brooks in the middle, with Nikki Giovanni, Mari Evans, Paula Giddings, Johnetta Cole, Pinky Gordon Lane, Pearl Cleage, Louise Merriweather, and of course Sonia Sanchez.
