South Brooklyn Shakespeare began last summer with 'A Midsummer Night's Dream.' We performed the play in a South Slope corner parking lot. The production featured 8 actors, we rehearsed for just over 2 weeks and had a SINGLE performance that saw an audience of over 300 people.
This year we are a little more ambitious. We have already cast 12 actors AND we are doing THREE performances at THREE different locations!
- Friday, July 25th @ 7:30pm (5th Avenue btwn 17th & 18th Street)
- Saturday, July 26th @ 2:30pm (7th Avenue btwn 12th & 13th Street)
- Friday, August 15th @ 7:30pm (5th Avenue at Dean Street)
Our production this year? 'Romeo & Juliet.'
So why do we need all this money? Here's a quick overview:
- designers & choreographers
- sets & props
- transportation to mount all three locations
- lighting & sound
This is a very exciting project that is FREE and supports the community of South Brooklyn. With more performances, actors and locations South Brooklyn Shakespeare is reaching out for additional support. We are asking for $3000 to make this year's edition bigger and better.

Risks and challenges
This will be our second season providing South Brooklyn with FREE outdoor Shakespeare. Outside of weather issues, we really don't expect any great risks or hurdles. Your support will provide us with more flexibility to mount these performances successfully and without compromise. We have assembled a strong team of designers and a company of fine actors, who bring a wealth of professional experience to the streets of South Brooklyn.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
