CUBA - This Moment, Exactly So is a one-of-a-kind multi-sensory Fine Art coffee table photography book, created from over 18 years of shooting in Cuba by award winning photographer Lorne Resnick. Each of the two editions features 300 pages, 250 color and B&W photos and a 3 CD Cuban music compilation. Also included will be stories by two-time pulitzer prize nominated author Brian Andreas.
Being in Cuba feels like falling in love with the person you knew you were meant to be with. Day after day. Minute after minute. Second after second. It’s exhilarating, bewitching, thrilling and exhausting.
On any one of my over 50 trips to the island over the last 18 years, when I was at the airport waiting to go home, I always felt tired and ready to leave – ten minutes in the air and I was ready to go back. Cuba is quick to get its hooks into you. And then it never lets go. Never.
In Cuba especially, I not only take photos because it’s part of who I am and how I interact with the world, but often I find I need to look at the photos again to make sure my time in Cuba wasn’t some beautiful fever dream. Every time I look at my photos from Cuba I'm able to re-live to some small extent those beautiful, precious moments. One of the reasons I take pictures – whether in Cuba or elsewhere – is to crystalize those peak moments in my life and share them with others. I shoot to remember. I shoot to share. I shoot to connect.
This book is not meant to be an accurate journalist record of Cuba – I am not a journalist. I look at this work more as a visual poem. So, this is my love poem to Cuba. This is only a slice of Cuba. My slice. Shot through my eyes and heart.
I believe that if you go to Cuba and walk the streets and talk to the people with an open heart, you will see what I have seen. I don’t know if this is the “real” Cuba or not. After all, even though I spent almost two years total traveling through Cuba and shot more that 300,000 images, this book’s 250 pictures (figuring an average shutter speed of 1/60 of a second) represents only 5 seconds of frozen moments. Five seconds of time that I lovingly carved out with my heart and soul.
Five precious seconds of life caught in the moment. Exactly so.
ABOUT THE PROJECT:
Rather than concentrating on Cuba's storied history I use the images, interviews and stories in this book to capture how it feels to be in Cuba: moments filled with passion, desire, friendship, love, laughter, beauty, grace and joy...moments that you long for in life and never forget when they happen. Those moments, exactly so.
The title of the book comes from one of my favorite artists, two-time Pulitzer Prize nominated author Brian Andreas from his story entitled This Exact Moment.
Brian's story captures the feeling I get in those magical moments I spend in Cuba.
Brian will be writing new stories for the book based on his travel in Cuba with me. Most photography books are edited and the photos sequenced based on subject matter. However, this book will be edited and images will be sequenced based on the emotional content of Brian’s evocative and beautiful micro stories.
Music is such a large part of the Cuban culture (having some of the best musicians in the world) and something I really love when I'm there. As you walk the streets you hear the music floating out of open windows and as the Cubans walk under those windows you see them almost dance by to the sounds. So, in both editions of the book there will be 3-CD’s worth of songs of blazing hot Cuban music including an amazing new band from Trinidad called Cuarteto Isla (see clip below).
There will be two editions of the book.
I) Edition One: Red linen covered book housed in matching red slipcase. Estimated retail price: $175.00. Image (of Red Car & Waves) will be inlaid on the front cover.
II) Deluxe Edition Two: Brown suede covered book/white luxury clamshell portfolio box. Each book will be numbered and hand signed by Lorne and limited in edition size. Estimated retail price: $695.00.
Image (your choice of six) will be inlaid on the front cover (see below).
Specifications common to both editions:

In the end, these mastercraft editions will be collectible works of art unto themselves.

Here’s the rewards…
(not pictured; the $1 "just helping" pledge, the $10 postcard from Havana pledge and the $15 eBook pledge).
Notes About the Rewards:
Delivery dates are estimates. Delivery of rewards such as the limited edition prints and wrist wraps will likely be more accurate than the books which have so many other moving parts and people involved. I have already tried to account for any potential delays in production, but dealing with Cuba (licensing the music for exmaple) can be a tricky process time-wise.
If you have any questions about any of these rewards, please do not hesitate to contact me via the 'Contact Me' button at the top right of this page or emailing me directly: Lorne@lorneresnick.com
THE CREATIVE TEAM:
• Brian Andreas/ Micro-stories:
Brian Andreas is best known as the artist & writer behind the boutique art & book publisher Storypeople. The author of twelve books (two of them nominated for the Pulitzer in poetry), he’s known worldwide for his lyrical writing & bold use of color in both his drawings & paintings.
From a recent email from Brian: “I still find myself thinking of Cuba at the oddest times. The way the light bounces like a hard rubber ball in a street game in Centro. Or walking behind a woman on the sidewalk back home in California & suddenly remembering women on the Malecon swaying almost without thinking to the breezes & the steady beat of the waves against the breakwater. The music everywhere. The people glowing with such aliveness. Because it truly is one of the most intensely alive places I’ve ever been. I think Cuba will be bubbling up in my stories for years to come.”

Risks and challenges
This is my life’s (and passion's) work. The photography for the book is done. I have put together a great team to achieve something at an extremely high level.
With a publishing project as large and complex as this the only real risk is usually delay. I've been through this process before and don't foresee any other risks.
