About this project
Inform Your Children Before Someone Else Does.
Today, more than ever before, parents are raising their children free from religion. We have very few secular tools to teach our children about the Christian religions that still surrounds us. Secular children encounter bible stories from their peers, through pop culture, and from well intentioned relatives. Oftentimes the message that is delivered along with these stories is one of fear, promises or simply trying to convince young minds that these stories are somehow historical.
We wanted to introduce our children to christianity in a way that doesn't threaten them or coax them into thinking these stories are real. Children's books about Greek and Roman Mythology are wonderful, exciting stories that inform and entertain. Christian Mythology for Kids follows this format, but with a religion that some people still view as true.
Exploring and discussing common Christian myths in a safe environment gives children an unbiased understanding before they encounter it in their daily lives. Christian Mythology for Kids also answers questions that children may have after hearing what their friends or relatives have to say. This book tells the story of each myth, followed by a brief logical or scientific explanation as to why it is mythology.
We can also learn from some of these stories that have an Aesop’s fables quality, like David and Goliath. We can take the lesson and leave the religion behind. Other stories included in this book are Noah's Ark, Angels and Demons, Moses and the Burning Bush, Joseph's Coat, Jesus' Birth, Jesus' Miracles, and so much more (24 stories in all).
Christian Mythology for Kids will be a soft cover book, approximately 130 pages in length with many full page illustrations and some spot page illustrations. There will be 1-2 illustrations for each story.
At the beginning of each chapter, the topic is introduced from a secular perspective. A paraphrased story from the bible or widely held christian belief is recounted, without bias in either direction (much like the stories about Zeus or Apollo). Each story is followed by a few sentences explaining why it is mythology from a logical or scientific perspective.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
I am an enthusiastic atheist and mother of two handsome boys. Three years ago, my husband and I started a secular meetup group for families when our oldest was just a baby. We wanted to connect and create a community of families who were secular. This Phoenix based group has grown into 200+ families that meet 4-5 times a month!
I was raised in a fundamentalist Christian religion and am well versed in the beliefs and stories of Christianity. I found my own voice and opinion when I was 19 years old and have been on an enlightening journey of free-thought ever since.

ABOUT THE ILLUSTRATOR:
In our search for the best illustrator, we made sure their style was very different from something you often see in a Children’s Bible. The illustrations will be exciting depictions of each story.

Risks and challenges
When the project is fully funded, I will be able to employ my illustrator to create all the illuminations for the book and pay the self-publishing fee. Illustration work will take approximately 6 months before publishing. We promise to work hard to keep all our deadlines for completion and publishing. Publishing our book may come with some unforeseen obstacles, but it is our goal to publish in January 2016 and ship your book to you right away!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
