Lift: Next Steps

As we told you guys on our previous update, we have been working hard with our factory to deliver a product as good as it can possibly be and as soon as we can. Many backers have asked us for some additional features, and some of these were great suggestions. We told you on our last update that the new Apple Watch has a 35% bigger battery, and we have spent the last couple of weeks investigating alternative solutions to make the Lift proposition work the same way also for the new model.

Some of you may wonder why this is so important for us. The truth is that the Lift is a revolutionary new product, and we firmly believe that when it hits the market it should be fully spec’ed for the latest smartwatch models available. Shipping it optimized just for the old Apple Watch just doesn’t feel right.

After reviewing the electronics required, we finally came to the hard conclusion that it would take some major changes to the molds, in order to fit a bigger battery and thicker coil to achieve the additional power. As some backers have already guessed, this will not be not possible with the current schedule. It will take at least 6-8 weeks, but it could also take more. We will know for sure once we get a Series 2 watch in our hands and run all the proper tests.

The last few days have been really tough, and we have been reviewing all possible scenarios internally. After exhaustive evaluations, we have finally decided to cancel the campaign at this point. This is not ideal, we know, but as we learned about these delays prior to the end of the campaign, we think this is the right thing to do. It wouldn’t be cool to change the schedule after the campaign is over and the pledges have been collected. We are a little bummed out about this, but we will stay strong and continue to bootstrap our way to production and relaunch the campaign when these changes will be finalized. We will keep you guys posted on our progress through the Kickstarter updates, and will be back before you realize it.

It has been an amazing experience so far, and we had no idea this campaign would achieve this level of success! We thank each and every backer for believing in us and we will be in touch!

Thank you all!

Tough decision guys. Keep at it. The idea is good and will get over the line when you do proceed

You should have taken a page out of the Apple book of business; Released the model you had set to come out... got as much funding as possible, then introduced your new design as a series 2. You would have benefited by more sales and heightened anticipation over the next version packed with all of the wants and needs of your customers.

Gutted to hear this news especially as I have a pebble and expecting the new pebble to work with this device. I hope you manage to resolve and get past the issues as the concept is sound and will definitely be a hit with your target audience. I hope you will message all who backed you this time around once you are ready to get this done so we can get in on what was and is an exciting idea just waiting for you guys to bring it to fruition.

Thanks for being so honest. I will wait for the word and sign up for your next version. I'm sure most of your backers will do the same.
      Good luck.

I'm a little confused that you didn't either build a little more headroom into the current design or wait to launch your campaign after seeing what happens at the usual September announcements, but if you feel strongly about the design changes, I certainly appreciate that you chose to cancel the campaign rather than force an unanticipated delay on your backers. Personally I don't mind waiting, but some may. I'll look out for an updated campaign if/when you launch one.

WHAT??? Of course, I'm understanding this decision in order to be successfull after this campaign either. Nevertheless I'm very disappointed, because I'll never use an apple and waiting for my Pebble. This could be a neverending story, because there will always be a newer version of any smartwatch, and you probably always want to serve the wishes of some guys and ladys. So I'm curious, if this ever will return and be developed and processed to the end, sorry. But when, I maybe will return (any incentive for returning backers then???)

Thanks for keeping us updated. Although this is disappointing, it is far better than taking our money now and then coming out with the 8 week delay. Look forward to future updates.
