Orb Improvements and Apple Watch Series 2
We have been working non stop since our last update and have some great news to share today. As planned, we started tooling end of August and as the process takes around 5 weeks, we should see some parts by the end of this month, at which point we will build a pilot production. In the meanwhile we have been focusing mostly on the electronics and sourcing components for mass production.
While in that process we found some new components and made a few upgrades so the Orb lamp got even better!
We are using a tri-LED light source that can give up to 3 times the brightness we originally planned for. We also pumped up the battery on the Orb to keep the usage time the same considering the more powerful lamp.
We are also using a touch switch that provides two settings of the light brightness; when touching the switch once the Orb will give 100%, and touching twice sets it to 30% intensity.
All the above means when the Orb is set to 100%, it pumps out 3W of power (which translates to around 250 -300 lumens). And when it’s set to 30%, the brightness is about 100 lumens all while providing a great 10 hours of use time away from the base. We are really excited about this.
Apple Watch Series 2
After Apple’s keynote yesterday, many backers have been asking if the Lift will be compatible with the new Apple Watch. As the Apple Watch Series 2 has no major changes in terms of design or charging, it will definitely be compatible. The only difference is that the new battery is about 35% larger, which means it will take longer to charge. We are currently looking into increasing the induction power and high density battery cells to optimize it also for the new Apple Watch. We will keep you posted on this.
