barrish wants to put it's mouth on your desire. Help the AOMC raise the final $2,000 they need to premiere it at HERE this July!
Friends, thank you for helping us surpass our goal! We're so excited and immensely grateful for your support. With just 5 days left, we want to see how far we can go, and raise as much as possible in support of this premiere - everything we raise over our goal will be put to immediate good use to increase dancer pay!
To keep our momentum strong, we're adding two new prizes: $40 VIP tickets to barrish at HERE (see the description at the right), and a prize for repeat-donors. If you've already made a donation and increase your amount, we'll send you an evidence bag containing an original signed artifact from Sarah A.O.'s barrish notebook. Again, thank you for helping us reach our goal - let's see how far we can go!
barrish unzips the personal politics of desire, power, and threat – situating our ongoing research of gender and intimacy amidst a lush landscape of pillows, mattresses, and pop-culture crime scenes. barrish wants to put it's mouth on your desire: we're working toward the exciting world premiere at HERE in Manhattan on July 12th-14th.
We started making barrish in the Fall of 2010, and have been relentlessly rehearsing, researching (/SVU watching), crafting, revising, and kissing for the last two years. Over those two years we've raised $19,000 towards our $21,000 fundraising goal - we're almost at the finish line! That's where YOU come in: we want to ask you--our digital community of old friends, new supporters, and online adventurers--to help us raise the crucial remaining $2,000 that will make this premiere a reality.
Raising $2,000 on kickstarter will allow us to break even, signaling a major victory as we premiere the AOMC's first alternative-model sustainably-created work!
barrish has already come so far...
From the very start, barrish was developed in partnership with our creative community, and continues to welcome new audiences into our family via the MENU project. More than your average audience participation, the MENU project invited individuals to become radically intimate with our work and process, crowdsourcing barrish's development, and pioneering sustainable dancemaking in the process. Check out an overview here:
We are SO CLOSE + SO FULL!
We are so close to our final premiere, and so full of love and gratitude for all the support that's gotten barrish this far. We need your help, but we're excited to ask you for it becuase it means we'll be bringing you into our fantastically adventurous family of support that makes our work possible. And that deserves a celebration:

Yes! If you'd like to create your own combination, just send us an email at theAOMC@gmail.com and let us know what you'd like! We'll figure out a donation that seems fair to both of us - everybody wins!
If you're not able to make it for the party, brunch, or sleepover don't worry about it - just let us know and we'll concoct a one-of-a-kind evidence bag for you, containing original artifacts from our process at the level of your reward. For example, the $100 level might receive a collection of prints from rehearsal and rehearsal memories from the dancers, while the $500 level might receive an original sketch from Sarah A.O.'s notebook! Let us know your desires, and we'll make sure you get something you love!
YES! It absolutely will!
Our total budget for the piece is $25,000, which goes to cover a range of expenses including rehearsal space, our performance venue, dancer pay, costumes and set, liability insurance, marketing, research, materials, and so much more. The $19,000 we've raised so far feels like a huge victory, but we've still got goals to meet ($2,000 via kickstarter, $2,000 through a mail campaign, and $2,000 via ticket sales) if we want to break even! Above and beyond that, any additional funding we receive will be put to good use to increase what we're paying the performers and invest in future seasons. $2,000 may not seem like much, but it's a crucial amount to us!
Sustainable dancemaking and transparent business are a major part of the AOMC's values, so if you'd like to discuss our budget for this work or the AOMC's financial and future planning with us, please feel free to send us an email at theAOMC@gmail.com!
Why are you asking me (a starving artist/a stranger/a friend/etc.) to help you raise this money? Don't you have big donors that support you?
We're asking you to get involved because YOU can make a huge difference! It's not just that "every little bit helps" (even though that's true!) - the strength of our fundraising strategy and continuous growth relies on having a diverse pool of supporters, and making sure that that pool keeps growing, evolving, and reaching out to invite new friends into our family. We do have a few amazing larger donors - their consistent support through our process helped us launch barrish at the very beginning, pioneer the MENU project, rent HERE for our world premiere, and get this far! The donation that YOU can make (even if its seems small or inconsequential) is important becuase (just like barrish and the MENU project) it brings new audiences to our work, promotes lean-forward involvement that is key to sustainability, and crowdsources responsibility for the production of art across a large community rather than leaving it up to the government or big business (which, frankly, doesn't really work.)
As you might be able to tell - we love talking about this stuff! If you'd like to chat more about it, please feel free to send us an email at theAOMC@gmail.com!
I had already increased my donation before you offered the prize for doing so - am I still elligible?
Yes! If you increased your donation at any point in the campaign, we'll send the signed sketch your way. Thank you for supporting our work!
