About
King's Hope is a novel, a thriller, about a deadly poker tournament. I want to translate it from Swedish to English.
The book has already been compared with The Hunger games, Stephen King's The Long Walk, and the movie Battle Royale.
The plot:
Each year there's a poker tournament in casino King's Hope in Sweden. Participants from all over the world applies to play Texas holdem, but only 10.000 will join the tournament and fight for the prices. The ones who make it to the top 100 can choose to leave the tournament and go home with money. Or they can continue and fight for the first place. For those who don't make it to the top placement a grim destiny awaits.
Peter Norrquist has personal reasons to participate. His advantage is a nearly unreal ability to sniff out his opponents poker hands, but is that really enough? How would you play, if your life depended on it?
Read online
While writing the novel I posted chapters online in order to get feedback. You can read almost half the book here (in Swedish): Read it here
By using Google Translate you can get a readable approximation of King's Hope: Read it here
Said about the book:
"With skillful hands and aces up his sleeve the author Hans Olsson takes the reader into the abyss. King's Hope is an innovative and well written horror thriller where you'll sit on needles the whole time. It's The Hunger Games for the poker generation." Jonny Berg, Swedish Zombie
"I've played poker on a lot of different places in the world, from Las Vegas to Macao, and witnessed bets that people can only dream about. But the thriller King's Hope takes the poker to a whole new level - it's a game of life and death." Simon "Dybban" Lindell, poker chronicler
"King's Hope is one of the most different descriptions of poker that I've read under my carrier as a professional poker writer. Even the most successful characters in the novel plays and talks poker in a way that no normal poker player does today, but on the other hand there's nothing normal in playing poker where your life is at stakes each and every hand. Hans Olsson manages to make me want to read just a bit more, and I guess that's the only thing that matters?" Erik "Valterego" Rosenberg, editor-in-chief Poker.se

What I need and what you get:
I need money for translating the novel from Swedish to English. When the translation is done I will print a small exclusive edition, which will go to backers of this project.
Translating a full novel is a job that requires a few months of work. For translation I will hire a professional translater.
For your money you will get one of the most exciting stories this year.
Your money will go to the following things:
Translation: 105.000 SEK (incl. taxes)
Exclusive hard cover edition, 500 copies: 18.000 SEK
Shipping: 25.000 SEK
Layout (printed book): 5.000 SEK
Graphic design of the cover: 1.000 SEK
Other (fees, deck of cards, etc) = 6.000 SEK
Total = 160.000 SEK
Why Crowdfunding?
Translating a book is a job that requires much work. The cost is more than I can afford myself however. Each contribution matter, and when contributing you will aid in getting a great story out in the world. A Swedish story at that, and the next bestseller!
What happens in case the funding excels beyond the target?
Any excess money will go into future book projects, no exceptions.
Short story
During the period of this crowdfunding campaign you can read my short story "Melody of the Yellow Bard" for free, in order to get a feel for what I write and how I do it. Read it here: Melody of the Yellow Bard

Risks and challenges
I belive in King's Hope, and that it's a good story that can make it internationally.
A risk that is always present is the quality of the translated work. I have however found a serious translater that I'm sure will do a great job. I estimate the translating work to take about 3-4 months.
Another risk is logistics once the book is printed, since it might be a big bunch of books to send world wide. This is however a small problem, in the big scheme of things.
And a final risk is not reaching the goal at all. But, only around 300 people needs to pledge for The Full House to make this happen. Together we can do it!
