Last summer, Erin O'Flaherty was crowned Miss Missouri. Three days after she was crowned a local news outlet heard word of her sexuality and from there her story spread like wildfire. Erin over night was thrown into the spotlight. With such positive attention, Erin also received the negative side of becoming famous over night.
Erin is a humble introvert, and at first had a hard time dealing with the attention and hate online. Erin then realized that what was happening to her is so much bigger and that she needs to share her story and be open about who she is so others can find the strength to do so.
Erin's focus of her year as Miss Missouri was about advocating for The Trevor Project, a suicide prevention awareness organization for LGBT Youth. Erin also has worked closely with The Human Rights Campaign and was asked to speak alongside Katie Couric in Washington D.C as a keynote speaker for the Time to Thrive Conference.Erin continues to inspire and speak across the country as she has done a TED Talk and keeps promoting equality throughout schools and organizations nationwide.
We MUST share stories like Erin's so that it isn't a big deal if someone in the LGBT community goes for a job or position. It is 2017, we still have a long way to go.
WHAT WE HAVE DONE
We have traveled across the country to follow Erin, her girlfriend Chelsea, and her family as she made history, and is making a difference in so many lives. We have spent six months filming and are ready to go into post productions
WHAT WE NEED TO DO:
Editing- We need to pay for an incredible editor to piece this story together and show all sides of Erin's story.
Colorist- We need our interviews to be color corrected and looking their best as well as the rest of the film.
Original Score-We need to pay for a composer. This film is so happy but also hits home at certain moments too, music is so important to help set the tone and the mood at the right time.
Motion Graphics- this is just essential!
Sound Mixer- We have so many incredible interviews with Erin and her family and even other celebrities, sound quality to is key to make sure these great interviews are showcased at their best!
Festival Submissions and Travel- These fees add up but are so worth it, our goal is to share Erin's story across the nation and through festivals will be our first step! Also we will need help getting there
Production Expenses- Like I said, I am a film student! Erin's story was so present in time I had no choice but to work with what I had to cover the story, most of my team worked out of the goodness of their heart but it would be nice to pay them for their time and creativity!
We must meet our $7,500 budget but would love to meet our stretch goal of $10,000!!!
We have 30 days....LET'S DO THIS!
Risks and challenges
We do have some interviews that took place outside in downtown Washington D.C. It is crucial we find a talented sound mixer to edit their audio.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
