It is time to take Peggy Jean's Pies on the road and achieve #WorldPieDomination! Our brick-and-mortar retail pie shop in Columbia, Missouri is baking at full capacity, so we can't help but wonder...what if we build a mobile PJP...a PJP V. 2.5?? Together, let's travel around and deliver the message that pie is home...no matter where you are.
From our fully stocked and completely operational pie truck, we envision #WorldPieDomination at an endless variety of mobile pie opportunities. That's right...we said MOBILE PIE OPPORTUNITIES (let's call it MPOs for short).
We are routinely invited to participate in a number of outdoor festivals and events each year, but we politely decline because the process of loading up pies, tables, a tent, decor, hand washing coolers, and a cash box is an exhausting prospect. (And the thought of putting it all away when it is over? Gulp.) We are also regularly asked about late night pie purchasing opportunities when our storefront is closed. And we politely decline those because our storefront doesn't offer seating for late night pie and coffee dates. And finally, people from all over the United States who follow our social media and popular blog posts ask us if we've ever considered a second store in a different town. And we politely decline because that sounds expensive. And overwhelming.
But here is the thing...a pie truck is pretty darn manageable, in our humble pie baking opinions. We can bake pies (especially our popular three inch tart sized pies) in our current storefront and load up the #WPD truck and conquer the pie-loving world. Close your eyes and imagine the possibilities...festivals galore, private parties, food truck celebrations, and so much more. And just because we set big goals, let's all think for a moment about that #WPD truck venturing through Missouri towns to meet up with our fans and to make new friends. We will even activate that truck at Thanksgiving, parking it in a remote location for holiday pie pickup for our friends far away from Columbia.
In short, we have a million ideas because we are legitimate idea people. And in reality, we've found the perfect truck. PERFECT TRUCK.
This perfect truck is a 2005 Chevy Express 3500 Cutaway van. Because it has been previously used as a pie truck, it is completely ready to go once we add our logo (and buy some insurance because you know...state law). While will need to rebrand the truck with the PJP logo, but we anticipate no other modifications. If we told you how cute this truck was and just how clean and well-suited it is for spreading #worldpiedomination, you just wouldn't even believe it. IT IS AMAZING. Consider it PJP V. 2.5. And plan to see it in a parking spot near you soon.
Risks and challenges
Well, every big idea comes with all the risks and challenges...but big rewards as well, right? Clearly, developing an aggressive schedule to fully utilize the pie truck will be a challenge to us because it is a new skill. But in growing our business over 78% in the last three years, our record for attacking new challenges is impressive. We will need to figure out where we want to take the truck, what local regulations govern food trucks in communities outside of our own, and how to manage our baking and staffing schedules to make sure the truck is in operation with product and trained members of Team PJP. Daunting? Sure. Possible? Absolutely.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
