This casual and quick-paced card game for 3-7 players is derived from the Living Starship fictional setting. It uses hexagonal cards emblazoned with the rank insignia from the Citadel Galactic Fleet. RANKaree is perfect for casual game nights or for quick pick-up games in between meatier game sessions.
Officers and enlisted cards are color-coded according to their service department (Flight, Engineering, Health, etc.):
Cards depict meeples in their Fleet uniforms emblazoned with enlarged rank insignia:
Players act as the captain of their own crew and are competing with each other to use their crew cards to collect the most mission tokens. Each round of the game lasts until the final mission token is claimed. Scores are then tabulated and a new round begins by randomly drawing a new and slightly larger allotment of tokens.
RANKaree is a small box game with 108 hexagonal cards and 21 punchboard tokens. It's a great game to play in between sessions at a conventions or as a casual game with players of any level of tabletop experience. It even plays well with children ages 10+.
We are hoping to do a print run large enough to make the game sellable in retail for under $20.
So we need YOU to help make all this happen. By supporting this campaign you will receive exclusive game content and bonus goodies from the Living Starship universe, not to mention a copy of the game.
You can see a review partial play-through video with Logan Chops:
Deal 7 cards to each player.
Shuffle 7 random ALERT cards into the remainder of the deck.
Draw a number of random mission tokens (there are 3 each of the 7 each color) equal to the number of players plus 2.
The number of tokens starts small and increases by one each subsequent round. Each player begins the game with 1 point.
On your turn you play ONE card from hand.
Optionally, you may sacrifice 1 of your earned points and play 2 Enlisted cards of the same color.
When you play a card you take all the unclaimed mission tokens of that color. If another player has already claimed those tokens, the card you play must outrank the current card holding them (see below) in order to claim the tokens from that player. The previous card holding them is discarded.
If you have no cards you can or want to play, you may choose to play your card to the discard pile with no effect.
At the end of your turn, draw a card. You should always have a hand of 7 cards. If you draw an ALERT card, apply its effects immediately then draw another card. The turn passes to the player on your left.
A round ends immediately when the last unclaimed mission token is taken. Scores are tabulated and a new round begins. The game ends immediately when the final ALERT card is drawn.
Here is a brief video of one round of game play (please be in awe of the high production value):
Cards of a division/color can only trump other cards of the same division and can only claim tokens of that division.
Officer cards ALWAYS outrank Enlisted cards. They will take mission tokens from them, even if two Enlisted cards currently hold a set of tokens or even if the Officer card has a lower number than the Enlisted card(s).
A higher number/rank Officer trumps lower Officer cards.
A higher number/rank Enlisted card trumps lower Enlisted cards.
Two Enlisted cards whose total numerical value EXCEEDS that of a single Officer card trump the Officer. (Warrant Officers, Admirals and Captains do not appear in the base game).
$7,5005 Additional Alert cards (Kickstarter Exclusive) + 1 Token/Round Tracker
$10,0001 Score Pad (60 sheets or so)

Risks and challenges
There are always risks, especially when dealing with international manufacturing and shipping. There could be delays due to weather, unionized dock workers (that happened to us with our last game) or a gremlin invasion.
We expect to work with a reputable, third-party fulfillment company in order to get the finished games and rewards out in a timely fashion, but that just opens the door for more potential snafus.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
