About this project
WELCOME TO THE ANCIENT LAND OF REX
Journey to an ancient land, full of mystery and wonder. You play the role of the Traveller, who one day wandered into the ancient land of Rex, where a tyrannical Emperor rules over his kingdom with an iron fist. All who even speak against his policies are executed, and the people live in fear of his dominance. The Emperors 400 year war against the Imperial Rebels has drained the coffers of both factions, and the time is right for a new King. Generation after generation has fought and died over an ideal that all but the Emperor's descendants have forgotten about. It has been foretold by the Elders of Tarra that a stranger will come from a distant land, and will unite the Empire again under one banner. Support the Emperor, the King of the Imperial Rebels, or carve your own path and become King, it's your choice.
Roam the land helping(or harming) the inhabitants of Rex, and join one(or multiple) factions intent on bending the future of the Empire to their will. The game world will respond to your actions, whether you choose to be the King or allow someone else to wear the Crown. Choose to do good or evil actions, and watch the game world respond to your own unique personality. In the world of Rex gunslingers and swordsmen travel the land, and compete with one another over resources and people. This is also another smaller war that is happening within Rex: the war between the ideal of traditionalism and modernism. The traditionalists seek to maintain the ancient ways, while the modernists seek to bring technology to the land of Rex. You can also join one of these factions as well, and become a supporter of either traditionalism or technology, but beware, your actions are always being watched and the game world will respond to who you support.
When I first started making Fortis Rex I had some general ideas about what I wanted and what I didn't want to put in the game. I knew I wanted the traditional inventory system(drag and drop onto character), a melee combat system that puts the player into the game, a fun archery combat system that lets you feel the bow and the hit, a dialogue system that gives the characters personality, and more. I think I have succeeded so far in this goal, but a little more work is needed to balance my existing systems. Most of the work that I have left to do is mostly balancing and putting the art in the game, as most of the core systems are already implemented.

THE GAME WORLD
MAIN GAME WORLD LOCATIONS
There are around 26 villages throughout the land of Rex. Explore these unique villages and complete the quests the way you want.
This ancient city of Rex is the seat of the Elders, the council who oversee prophecy and help the citizens of Rex. They have always been at odds with the Emperor, but tolerated because of their high status.
The ancient seat of the Empire. Here the Emperor sits on his throne and plots to keep the Empire from rebelling more than it already has, and crush rebellions in progress.
The oldest city in all of the Empire. It is the seat of The Traditionalists Guild and is at odds with the city of Nelson and the supporters of The Technologists Guild. The Traditionalists are against the use of technology and support using ancient weapons such as swords and bows. Entholm is about half the size of Nelson, but it has a larger number of supporters, making Entholm one of the most heavily populated cities in all of the Empire. The symbol of Entholm and the center building is the Tower Of The Globe, an ancient gigantic tower with a massive ball at the end. The Globe is a symbol of the world, and some have even said that the ancients built this tower to symbolize their belief that Entholm was at the center of the world.
The home of The Guild Of Cartographers, and reputed stronghold of the Imperial Rebels, although all inquiries into the matter by the Emperor seem to come to naught. This is the largest city in the Empire, and the most heavily fortified and defended by Imperial retainers. Nelson is also the seat of The Technologists Guild and is the foremost authority on spreading technological innovations to the land of Rex. Nelson is in a war with the city of Entholm, against the direction of the Emperor, because of Entholms support of The Traditionalists Guild.
The Realm Of Paltorias
The Realm of an ancient King known as Paltorias. It is overgrown and
unkempt, and all expeditions into this realm have not returned. It is still
a mystery exactly what lies within the Realm of Paltorias: all we know for
sure is that someone or something keeps destroying our expeditions...
The Imperials are one of the most ancient factions in the Realm Of Rex.
They are at war with The Imperial Rebels, The Bandits, and the ever
troublesome Pirates. The Imperials have stations and garrisons in just about every city and town in the Empire. The seat and very heart of Imperial power lies in the city of Algoth. The total power of the Imperials is magnificent, mostly because they support both the Technologists and the Traditionalists. If one had designs on collapsing Imperial power, they would have to find a way to get the Imperials to join one side or the other...
The Imperial Rebels
The Imperial Rebels split from their parent faction, The Imperials, 400
years ago. The reason they split is still a debate to this day, but the
common reason is that they disagreed with Imperial methods and the massive amount of corruption in the Empire. They are at war with The Imperials, the Bandits, and the Pirates. Just like the Imperials, however, they support both sides of the side conflict, both the Technologists and the Traditionalists. In fact, it has been rumored that Rebel technology is actually more advanced than that of the Empire. It is rumored that the Imperial Rebels maintain a stronghold in the city of Nelson, although this is just a rumor, because all Imperial inquiries into the matter have come to naught...
The Bandits are the "People From The Forest". They dwell among the trees and from time to time raid and rob from their local village or the unsuspecting wayfarer. The Bandits are at war with all other factions, as their only friend and primary motivation is the attainment of gold.
The Pirates are very similar to the Bandits, except they like to sail up and down the river of Rex and throughout the world raiding coastal villages. They have also been known to put up blockades on railroad tracks and hold up entire trains.
The Technologists Guild
Supporters of technology and the primary ideas behind the development of new technology. Their armament includes guns, and new deadly developments in this area have recently come to light. Repeater muskets and a new innovation, rifles, have surfaced out of Nelson. These deadly weapons weaken the cause of the Traditionalists.
The Traditionalists Guild
The keepers of the traditional ways, and the opposers of the development of new technology. The Traditionalists Guild support the abolishment of technology, as they claim that it takes away from the rights of the people to do work for themselves. They say that trains will eventually rule out the need for horses, and guns will take the chivalry out of warfare. They support the use of bows and swords, and melee warfare, as they claim that it is honorable to fight with these forms of weapons, and it is dishonorable to use technology on the battlefield.
The Guild Of Cartographers
Based in Nelson, the Guild of Cartographers are responsible for putting the world of Rex on the map, literally. They are employed by the Empire and well payed, as their work is very dangerous(bandits, pirates, and other individuals who seek to do the Guild harm).
The Eye Of The Emperor
A branch of the Empire that watches the towns and cities all around Rex, to guard against rebellion and monitor bandit invasions. They are the "spies" of the Empire, although they are not called by this name and take offense to the term. They preferred to be called "Guardians", and are regularly called by this name in the Empire, although outsiders call them by other choice names...
You can choose your age, hair type(over 20 types of hair), hair color, and edit tons of features of the face(such as eye height and width, nose width, and chin jut), so that you can have a truly unique character customized to your liking.
The game will feature a crafting system that allows the player to combine "raw" objects together, such as sword hilt and iron ore, and get a new item. The player can experiment with new combinations and get totally unique in-game items. Both techological(guns and gadgets) and traditional(swords and bows) crafting is included, so there is virtually an endless amount of combinations.
