Blind master musician Henry Butler impacts a group of visually challenged young adults in this new film. Help raise distribution funds!

The Music’s Gonna Get You Through is a testament to the power that community producing can have. We started this film in 2003 with $1500 and some borrowed equipment. Seven years and lots of great volunteer work later we’ve managed to keep tabs on New Orleans piano virtuoso Henry Butler, as well as the kids who participated in his 2003 music camp, and put together a film that was selected by American Public Television for national broadcast…all because of donors like you!

Though the film will air in many cities, it's not running everywhere and many people will miss it. We are launching a grassroots effort to get The Music’s Gonna Get You Through out into the world beyond public television, so that it can be used effectively in deepening understanding of issues facing the visually challenged (and so that more viewers can enjoy Henry, his students, their music, and their victories!).

We believe this film can have a terrific impact getting great arts programs going for both visually challenged and sighted kids… as well as raise awareness about the capabilities of visually challenged people. According to the latest statistics the unemployment rate in the blind community is around 75% and we’d love to help change that. We’re also here to inspire: it’s important to remember what a difference mentorship and specialized programs can make.

In order to do all these things, and show the film outside of public television, we have about 15 songs we need to cover music rights for, as well as expenses for DVD production. $20,000 is a great first step towards these expenses. Our end fundraising goal for proper distribution is closer to $40,000. Any contribution will help tremendously, and is tax-deductible.

The DVD will include an audio-description version of the film for blind viewers, as well as extra bonus features, and will be available to individuals; to non-profit groups for use to champion causes like music and arts education and other programs for the visually challenged; to universities for use in their coursework to consider what the kids and Henry are facing in everyday life; and more!

Please enjoy The Music’s Gonna Get You Through and help spread the word to others. Thank you!
