New Album RETRO Trilogy - Pre-Order & Join the 70s 80s 90s Journey!
Hey music lovin’ friends & family – My name is Allison Adams Tucker, and I sing (in a few languages) to create beauty & connections. Connections with the present moment we face, with each other across borders and barriers, and with our past memories and experiences. I'm so grateful for the beautiful connections my voice has brought me.
Over the last 12 years, I've performed for audiences big & small throughout the US, Europe, Japan, and have made music art with some incredible musicians in the jazz world, like Josh Nelson, Peter Sprague, Chris Potter, Antonio Sanchez, Romero Lubambo... We all make something with our time on this planet, and it is truly an honor to be able to make art for a living - I aim to stir your soul.
It’s been 4 years since my last album, and I'm seizing the day to make my 4th album a reality. Please help make this happen! In this crazy new world of free digital music and self-funded art, I’m relying on YOU. Albums rarely make a profit anymore, but each is a vital work of art that documents and enhances our community and culture, and remains an inspiration and a reference for future generations. Again, truly an honor.
Time always flies FORWARD, but you know how a song can instantly bring you BACK to a place, a smell, a feeling, a taste, a scene from your past, all in technicolor… A birthday party, your first breakup, the wedding day, the birth of your child, your grandma’s smile… That song unites people across borders of time and space and can make those memories real again and again. We all have these musical Stories, and I want to bring these to life.
Allison Adams Tucker is going “RETRO”! I’m going back to my musical roots with a 3–part album Trilogy as I explore the music connected to those memories that define a generation – Generation X. Think 'old school meets the digital age'. These will be modern jazz re–imaginings from 3 decades of music we all love: the 1970s, 1980s & 1990s. I’m exploring how the power of this generationally-charged music makes us who we are today, and I’d love you to join in the journey!
Some of the artists covered on this project are: (several of whom also recorded their albums in the same New York studio) David Bowie, Cat Stevens, Paul Simon, Queen, ELO, Tears For Fears, Peter Gabriel, The Cure, Cyndi Lauper, Sting, Gipsy Kings, Beck, Prince, Annie Lennox, Massive Attack… Fun stuff, and talk about bringing back memories!
RETRO Trilogy – 3 EPs -> 1 CD: Each decade of 6 songs will be released separately as an EP across streaming and digital platforms (1970s, 1980s, & 1990s Editions), ending with 18 total songs. 15 selected songs will be released on the final RETRO collection CD. If we have enough interest, there’s also going to be Limited Edition (color) vinyl pressings for all you retro lovers! We're hoping to release the 1970s EP on streaming platforms in August 2019 with 80s in September and 90s in October, and then the final CD release in early 2020.
Everyone who pre-orders the digital album on Kickstarter will get all 18 tracks before the first 6-track EP is released to streaming. I’ve created some totally groovy & fly rewards that I hope will compel you to stake a claim in this work of art as well. (See them on the right and pictures below too.)
I recorded in New York City this last January. I booked the plane ticket from sunny California and the studio time at historic Sear Sound Studios in wintery NYC (recording site of iconic Steely Dan, Sonic Youth, David Bowie, Paul McCartney, Chick Corea, Sting, Björk) to record another album under producer Matt Pierson and an amazing band.
We performed the project live for the first time at the Blue Note NYC, and then went into the studio to lay down 16 tracks over the next four days. I returned home to SoCal and finished up the final 2 songs with long-time mentor and collaborator Peter Sprague in his studio in Encinitas, CA. Exciting times! Now the tracks are in the editing stage, and will soon be ready for mastering and release.
- Kevin Hays - piano/fender rhodes/melodica
- Tony Scherr - electric and acoustic bass/guitars
- Kenny Wollesen - drums/electronic toys/vibraphone
- Yotam Silberstein - guitars
- Peter Sprague - guitars
- Bashiri Johnson - percussion
The song list is loaded with favorites from my musical past, including some super hip arrangements together with Josh Nelson, Danny Green, Kevin Hays, Yotam Silberstein, and Peter Sprague that magically took form in the studio. (Love that part!) Also included is an original composition "Wonderland" I wrote one day in Central Park. It takes a village: Lyrics for this song came from a poem I wrote for Deepak Choprah and Kabir Seghal's book release for "Home". I also gleaned inspiration and ideas from songwriter vocalist extraordinaire Mark Winkler and guitar maestro Peter Sprague.
Why Your Support Is Essential
As many of you know, the way the world listens to music has changed drastically with the rise of streaming apps like Spotify, AppleMusic, Pandora, SoundCloud, YouTube... As a result, album sales have fallen, many record labels have closed, and this has transformed the music industry, leaving most artists on their own to continue to create music. Only a handful of major record labels have survived, and 3 superpower labels (Vivendi, Sony, and Warner) now have the monopoly on streaming music profits. In order for the beautiful diversity of the arts to continue, like never before it is essential that each of us supports independent artists.
Making an album is very expensive $$$ as many artists fly solo. I've already paid out of pocket (and credit cards) roughly $29,000 for travel costs, hotel, music arrangements, musicians, studio time, photography, and producer fees. When I release the album, there is another $15,000 minimum to be paid for mastering, cover song royalties, CD duplication, distribution, publicist, radio promotion, advertising, touring costs... The list is long, but I have faith in the music and in YOU to keep the music flowing! It’s all worth it.
This is where I would like to invite you to be part of this project by pre-ordering the album and choosing between different rewards.
Kickstarter All Or Nothing:
With a grand total of $44,000, you are probably asking yourself why my Kickstarter goal is only $8,000. I'm playing it safe! If my goal of $8,000 is reached by the deadline, then I will receive the money and will be able to pay for the basic costs to release the album. If we surpass the $8,000 goal, I'll be able to promote the album and begin to pay back the debt I've taken on to make RETRO.
If I don't reach the $8,000 goal, I get nothing. In short, this goal is a small part of the money needed to complete this project, and I want to make sure I can at least reach the minimum.
What You Get With Your Contribution
From $1 - $5000, every dollar makes a difference. I've created some cool bonus rewards for getting involved in this project. Everything from digital downloads and signed CDs to an exclusive listening party (Del Mar, CA May 5, 2019!), your name in the liner notes, I'll sing your song on stage, voice lessons, hip & original RETRO merch (t-shirts, wall clocks), YOUR story on my YouTube channel, a house dinner party prepared by Chef Allison for you, VIP tickets, and more... I want to THANK YOU for hopping on board with this project. Check out all the rewards.

Risks and challenges
If I don't make my goal, I won't be able to release the album. Mixing, mastering, cover-art, making the CDs, royalties, and basic distribution will be paid under the $8000 goal. Touring, CD release show costs, radio campaign, basic promotion and publicity to get the music to more ears will require MORE than the minimum goal.
