About Solstice Moon, Solstice Sun
When I was a little girl my parents read me glorious picture books that led me to dream and wonder, to ask questions and explore. Through their words and illustrations, these books transported me beyond my row house on a city block to a wider, wilder world.
I read beautiful stories to my children that I know fire their imagination and curiosity.
I hope that Solstice Moon, Solstice Sun is just this kind of a book; that my words and Ellen's illustrations will lead children and adults into a place where they experience and appreciate the heartbreaking beauty and power of each transformation in the seasonal cycle.
Solstice Moon, Solstice Sun is the first of our The Wheel of the Year children's book series.
It celebrates the wonder and beauty of the winter. It is a tale of expectation and joy for nature provides the balance of dark and light--and all creatures are attuned to this cycle.
Sadly, we live in a world where most adults and children have little free time to wonder, dream, and explore. We hope this tale helps reestablish a conscious sense of connection with nature.
Hope is a powerful force. This project sprang from the hope that parents and children will use this story a springboard to their own adventures in nature; that each Wheel of the Year book plants a tiny seed that will help spark that quest.
We need your contributions to produce and launch a high quality, cloth bound, original children's book. But even if you can't contribute and just like our project please, spread the word to those who have the means and desire to back it.

We chose to publish through our own little press, Brigid's Hearth (Ellen--also an award winning sculptor-- has a blacksmith forge and Brigid is the patroness of blacksmiths), so that Ellen could retain all rights and control over her beautiful artwork. We hope you agree that publishing a 32 page case bound (library quality) 8.5 by 11 edition, with Ellen's amazing full color illustrations is a terrific investment
Here are the numbers:
To produce 200 case bound first editions we need $1,954.08
To produce 250 case bound first editions we need $2,034.85
To produce 500 case bound first editions we need $2,450.13
We'll also need to buy a block of ISBNs, EANs, UPCs, publicize. market, mail, etc. etc., and any additional contributions will help us tremendously in these areas.
We hope that you'll help us reach our goal and present you with a beautiful, memorable picture book .
