@Bill there are lots of things I am sure Frontier would keep completely secret as they should....I agree there. I was thinking people in the design forums would be allowed to talk about things to friends etc and sort of be ambassadors (if they chose to). Of course they can just keep it all to themselves. I don't know it is pure speculation I have no idea how it would be done.

    2. Whoops-asteroid2-png.small

Creator Styggron on December 16, 2012

@Bill I guess it depends if the design members are ambassadors as such so people can talk to them and they can choose to put the ideas forward OR if they are completely not allowed to talk about it outside of the forums.

    14. Fb_profile_picture.small

Creator Sean Houlihane on December 16, 2012

To fix the £90 level for international pledgers, just make it an option to swap the physical artefacts for a digital vanity item, and ask in the questionnaire at the end. It doesn't need any chance to the pledges, but a clarification about this being an option that you can chose at the end (and avoid postage).

I was thinking 3 x 90 tiers one with t-shirt- one with mug and 1 with digital only. that way you could mention twice that upgrades are included and it would save taking emails for what people wanted with their 90 pledge

    18. Fb_profile_picture.small

Creator Pete Wadley on December 16, 2012

@styggron-yep I know they can't change descriptions but you could add to any new tier that all th 90 tiers get free upgrades. I think that would be fairly clear

Creator Styggron on December 16, 2012

@Pete KS won't let them edit any details on pledges that people have alreday pledged on so they cannot change the description. This is why we need to help out people deciding and hope they read the updates and FAQ :-) All they can do is add a £90 digital only pledge and they would need to mention that this digital only pledge stands "alone" and levels above it does not include the digital only pledge. Levels above it includes either the physical or digital level £90 :-) It starts to get tricky and a little convoluted but is doable.

Creator Eric on December 16, 2012

      @Michael

I think a tier somewhere below/around £50 with a "special" ship (in some form) would probably be a good idea to bring lower backers up a couple of steps, but as far as I have understood it that is already "in the works"? First I thought about opening up a new tier at £25, but I have changed my mind about that. It's much better to find ways to get existing £20 backers to move up and releasing slots that way instead. For me the £90 tier (£105 with shipping) now is a no-brainier, but we need to find a middle ground for people who can't/won't go that high.

@ Michael. Well, you said that £90 was the right fit for the expansions to be included, so make it a £90 digital tier, with an exclusive decal.
Personally it would be unlikely for me to get the £90 tier with physical goods - I just could live with NOT getting what I paid for, so it would also cost me £15 extra for international shipping, but for the £90 digital tier...well, I would MAKE that happen.

@JHewett As I also said below a second £90 wirth digital only is also fine. People outside UK save £15. I also bet most will go for the physical items because it costs the same. :-)

If FD introduced a new all digital tier with all updates included for £70, that will tempt a lot of people, (including me) i think.

£105 is simply too steep imho, and only the hardcore fans in the crowd will pledge that much.

    44. Small-profile.small

Creator Stephen Usher on December 16, 2012

@Michael, seeing as decals (if user generated) cost Frontier Developments the cost of the storage space on the servers (i.e. almost nothing), other than possibly the cost of moderating them, it may be simplest to merely say that for every £20 above £5 you have an extra decal slot that someone can use to upload their decal design into.

It's simple, it's clear, if gives an incentive to upgrade and, most importantly, it costs the project almost nothing.

    45. Viewaskew_buddychristapproves.small

Creator JHewett on December 16, 2012

@ Styggron - Yeah, sure, that IS human nature, but as someone below already suggested, you could just have more than 1 £90 tier - 1 digital only, 1 for physical stuff etc.
I guess what I was trying to say is that there are alternative incentives for people who want digital only, that don't cost much to implement, and might draw a few people in.
As it stands I want to go £90 and don't want the physical items, but it is really borderline with my budget, and there is nothing that interests me in between (beta access would be nice though).
I do want this project to be successful and don't have heaps of cash spare, so I have to choose carefully where it all goes, especially this close to Christmas. £70 in Aud is worth a whole new game (or 2) to me.
sorry if I sound a little selfish, but these are the tough choices I have to make :)

To get more US backers probably means more work on the forums, etc. More than the pricing effect, I think visibility is really what is holding us back there. That and the lower existing fan base for Elite.

@Pete True. Frontier would get more of the £90. and the descp could say that all £90 levels get free upgrades. It does not devalue those already at £90 and gives Frontier more £.

I bet they will do exactly that.
