@Taumel. You may have made the assumption that SPLs were in the core game. Not everyone else had. You seem to be forgetting this is a KS, not a imminent release. If the fans at large (and not the hardcore posters on the comments) were unhappy with the overall situation the amount pledged would be dropping drastically at this point.

The fact is, quite the reverse is happening.

I respect your position and your opinion, but I don't see how you can disagree that it is drastically out of step with the general 'Zeitgeist'.

    2. Frontier Developments Creator on December 15, 2012

      @ Marek Wiernikowski

These aren't stretch goals, these are planned developments to the game after it's initial release. They cost money to develop. The £90 tier gets you these for free as well as the items you would have already received for that pledge. The funds for this Kickstarter are for the game as described on the Kickstarter page.

    3. Dave Woods [Owner of the Daffy Duck] on December 15, 2012

      My suggestion

£85 - All future updates and expansions included for free, plus the rewards listed above.

    4. Stephen Varey on December 15, 2012

@Marek - so, let me get this straight - your solution to disagreeing is to give money to a project that already surpassed it's target?

@FD @Michael - I like @oGGe's idea of "Set a pledge level at £89 for free upgrades in the future... so that people see it's there even if they don't read al lthe updateloggs."

    6. dcal on December 15, 2012

      @Cmd Fozza
Well said, this is not your average publisher released game where they hope to do 1 or 2 updates and than fleece you for the 4 sequels with updated graphics after it. This game will have a much longer shelf life than the average game. The amount saved over the life of Elite Dangerous by pledging the 90 tier is likely quite a bargain.

    7. JEM7v on December 15, 2012

@Marek Given that you can name a space station (as one of the pledge tiers) I'm willing to go out on a limb here and say they definitely will be in the first release!

    8. HellaCMDR on December 15, 2012

@Cmd fozza The worst part is that the bitching here is effectively prepackaging the next round of trolling online and in forums.

    9. Dan on December 15, 2012

I think the whole problem with this KS is that from the start, it's been handled like a car under a veil that is slowly lifted. A

    10. Dave Woods [Owner of the Daffy Duck] on December 15, 2012

      To quote Michael from earlier:

"In case clarification is needed. The core game is the game due to be released in March 2014. This game is focussed on the the space element of Elite as described in the main kickstarter page.

There will be expansions to the core game. These will include things like planetary landings, leaving your ships. Big expansions like these will be paid for, but if you have pledged at to at least the £90 tier then you won't have to pay for these.

Smaller updates may also be released, these can provide new content and gameplay, but on a smaller scale than the expansions, these would be free to everyone.

      I hope that's clear?

Something I hope to see in one of the future expansions: when planetary landing will have been implmented, givig the posibility of buying uninhabited planets in thhe far range of the galaxy, and being able to develop them somehow... if Elite will truly have potential bilions of star system, I see as a possible great source of motivation to exploration searching for that worthy unclaimed planet, with the interesting landscape, strange lifeform or abundant mineral resources.

    12. HellaCMDR on December 15, 2012

@Marek As I understand it SOME of the updates may have to paid for.The idea that this pure paid updates is pretty much conjecture from this forum again. We need clarification.

We "WANT " this game made in the image of the first Elite , you can add as nmuch as you like further down the line....D.B has been honest about this...the guy knows what he;s doing FFS !!

Oops, missed 'point' out of my last post. Doh!

Set a pledge level at £89 for free upgrades in the future... so that people see it's there even if they don't read al lthe updateloggs.

    16. Bil Irving on December 15, 2012

@kiaro: All of nothing is better than some of everything. Right you are. Bit silly there, don't you think? This is a game that will take years to fully implement. Fortunately, it will also take years to play. So stay. It's going to be fun! :)

I'll keep it brief and just address SPL (if you want the details&more, there are about 44k of comments to read through):

People haven been asking questions about certain aspects of he game, like SPL, since the very beginning, no answers from DB/FD about the topic though.

In interviews on the other side he stated for several times that they are answering all the questions though.

By not commenting on those but observing the Kickstarter they left the community with the impression that there will be SPL. But they made comments on stuff no one really cares about.

They waited to drop the bomb until there was enough funding and/or not much time left to react to the badly progressing Kickstarter and after getting the feedback that people want an option where they pay only once, they offered a deal. They now found their cash cow for the hardcore fans.

But i doubt that this was planned upfront as f.e. there is no digital offer as well, there are no details/answeres about how many updates are covered, when those updates are roughly to be expected, etc., we now ended up with SPL up from a physical £90 (plus shipping and taxes) tier only.

Thinking of the tiers again, £75 just a backer forum access, seriously? But i won't dig deeper into this now.

Anyway all the lack of transparency, communication and preperation, i don't think this is the way how to best run a Kickstarter. I'll rember this as the "Will space be blue?" drama.

    18. Lee C Walder on December 15, 2012

      @ Cmd Fozza

It's good to have a good rant lol. Some people are just childish expecting too much for nothing and that ruins good things for others. Sad fact of life I'm afraid. A little understanding when given reason and being positive helps make things work much better !

    19. Stephen Varey on December 15, 2012

@dcal - I actually lost interest in the cliffs of dover ages ago, after playing the original il2. You make a very good very, very well and i urge the naysayers to read your post and digest it properly.

      Well said chap!

    20. John Purcell on December 15, 2012

@Matt Dobson: Yes it Rocks! :)

    21. Marek Wiernikowski on December 15, 2012

So let me make sure I understand this. Planetary landing, space stations, walking around your ship etc all are to be paid for later? Unless I stump up 90 quid now? This is not the way stretch goals work David. This is the way that makes me feel like withdrawing my pledge and putting the cash on star citizen instead.

    22. Greebie on December 15, 2012

@kiaro. I'm not sure where you get the impression there won't be space stations at launch as they're an integral part of Elite. There's no trading without them.

    23. Synchromesh on December 15, 2012

@Cmd Fozza : i get the feeling there are some that would like this to fail and negativity is deliberate ..
Yet the moneys going up....So seriously to those people i would like to say...

      NE NE NENE NE :)

    24. dcal on December 15, 2012

Something important to remember is that the features not in immediately have their foundation already coded into the engine. The functionality is there, which means updates may not take that long to release after initial launch. Besides, the importance of getting these things right is huge. This is not Mario Cart, its an advanced space sim and David is making sure it is done correctly :-)

    25. Matt Dobson on December 15, 2012

      So for £90 you get:

A premium boxed edition of the game
      A t-shirt
A paperback copy of Michael's sequel to 'The Dark Wheel'
Upgrades to the game when they come out later
A download of the game music
Access to the private backers forum
Your name forms part of the game database
Participation in the second round beta test
      A transferrable decal
      Digital newsletter and updates

      That's not half bad...

    26. oGGe on December 15, 2012

I really like the recent updates

    27. Dwayne Dibley on December 15, 2012

@D Morgan My view is that more people are willing to pledge to a project that has already reached it's target a) because they know they'll be getting something out of it and
      b) They may be particularly keen on one of tyhe stretch goals - for example Linux support

    28. Steve50 (£100 pledged) on December 15, 2012

@kiario So, rather than wait and get the whole game, you'd rather pull your bid and not get it at all?
ooookay.. seems like you're cutting off your nose to spite your face there.
I'm disappointed too that landings won't be in the first release, I am also on a time limit, I'm 50 years old with a bad degrading medical problem, theres a chance I might not even see the first release, let alone the expansions. but I've been waiting decades for this game and I'm going for it!

    29. Frontier Developments Creator on December 15, 2012

      @ Lee Christopher Walder

Unfortunately we can't change the pledge descriptions. I'll pop in the updates comments to clarify things.

    30. Drew Wagar on December 15, 2012

@Cmd Fozza - Ignore 'em. The pledges are rising dramatically, clearly the tide is against the naysayers. Those numbers aren't statistics! :)

    31. HellaCMDR on December 15, 2012

@Kiaro Cockpit comment is entirely news to me.

    32. amigacooke on December 15, 2012

I think it likely you will get space stations, but you won't be able to wander around them at launch.

    33. Fozza on December 15, 2012

The negativity on this Kickstarter really gets to me at times. The Update 13 thread has been highjacked by people saying the £90 is too high for free lifetime updates. That's madness. £20 for a full stage one release it is an incredible price.

People are saying they will pull their pledge because FD are not focusing on Planetary landings on day one.
We have waited so long for this game to appear and some people would want to risk it not being developed because FD want to ensure the bit of the game that they claim to love so much is done properly rather than as a quick hash on a deadline.

FD and DB have been upfront they have been nothing but honest and transparent and they have been repeatedly very grateful for your pledges and your faith.

Keep the faith going, keep the positivity going and people...stop cutting off your nose to spite your face.

      {END OF RANT}

    34. Lee C Walder on December 15, 2012

      @ Frontier Developments

Sorry, I mean the £90 tier box specifically ?

    35. Shadowfax on December 15, 2012

@Lee CHristopher Walder... pledge descriptions cannot be changed once anybody has pledged on them.

    36. D Morgan on December 15, 2012

Theryes a bit of me tempted to hold the £100 pledge level off until the last day, to maximise the under goal amount until near the end, as that way in my reckoning more pledgers who are the sidelines will pledge to see the KS reach its funding goal, and then a mass jonty at the end by the committed, we can push much further over the goal than if its get fully funded early ? Im just perceiving that if its reaches its goal early people may not bother to pledge as in its a safe project ? theyre is 20 days to go and funding aint very linear, im probably over thinking it, any thoughts on this - anyone ?

    37. HellaCMDR on December 15, 2012

@Alien Funny that that egosoft users objections tend to mirror @Taumels isn't it?

    38. Jasper Wijga on December 15, 2012

@Ivan Thanks for clearing that up!

    39. Lee C Walder on December 15, 2012

      @ Frontier Developments

Could you verify what's being said in the comments section of Update 13 please ?

One example is that someone doesn't think planetary landings will be incorporated in to the single player version. But I remember a reply from Frontier stating that features from the online aspects will be implemented in to the single player version - where possible. I'm just concerned people will be misled until you confirm that.

I see the funding is jumping up again, good idea on including paid updates in to the £90+ tier, will you be updating that tier to reflect the paid updates included ?

    40. Sean Houlihane on December 15, 2012

@Frontier How about clarifying that overseas backers can join at £90, and forgo the physical artifacts in order to save postage if they chose to. The only other option I can see is they put a UK address on the questionaire. Cue some quick ebay auctions with 'UK delivery only'...

    41. Slawkenbergius on December 15, 2012

      Dammit. "nature of statistics"

    42. kiario on December 15, 2012

Well I am pretty disappointed that landing on planets will not be in game at release. And if I understood correctly neither will cockpits. But I could be wrong on that one.
I get the feeling when watching the latest update that we at release will be beta test an unfinished product.
David says there are so many great plans for the game that wont make it to release.
I am not interested any more to be honest with what we will get at release. Probably not even space stations to dock with. So many things left out that where in Frontier.
I think I am going to withdraw my pledge. I am sorry, but this was disappointing.

    43. Ivan Coleman on December 15, 2012

@Jasper It's a phrase used on this comments board to mean 'upping your pledge' and take its name from one of the main contributors to this thread, as he was continually increasing his pledge in the early days of the KS project

    44. Slawkenbergius on December 15, 2012

@OBB: I'm plus-oneing on your dodgy interpretation of the nature statistics. Considering it's provenance, one can't completely discount that statistic out of hand. Yes we need more data on UK vs US Kickstarter projects to test its validity, but it's still one of the most valid statistics out there to base projections on.

Plus, watch the way that total is rising!

    45. Drew Wagar on December 15, 2012

@Boz - Thanks for the pledge! Much obliged.
