Fair enough Daniel. The Escort Mk 1 was a bad example to give. I should have said something, anything made in the UK by Leyland during the 1970's.
@A.I. : be sure that still today, an escort mk1 can still be hard to beat, even against some porsche (been at a rally recently :-) ), so think about a cobra model, good thick old steel... !
@Jamie We already decided that if you donate £1 you start the game as an asteroid. You can pitch, roll and yaw, but that's it.
@izzy £1300+ for a high-end PC, £160 for XBOX - its a lot of outlay for a £40 game. Just don't want to miss out on the fun. I'm sure this game wouldn't appeal to anyone who hasn't bought into the ethos.
Really, I still think Eve should have had a pause facility. I would love to have paused the entire shard for my own benefit quite a few times, I can tell you.
@Philip Turner - They have said no to destroying space stations and planets.
@Deus I have paid everything I am prepared to for this game. I am just going to wait and see what happens from here out. I have done all I can got banned from Steam forums, spammed loads of people on Facebook, been a regular contributor to this board, put a clear list of suggested improvements on the Frontier forum. From now on its sit back and watch the total.
If it doesn't get made then hey I am not any worse off than before and in fact I am better off because I will have SC to play in a years time.
But I'm not putting any more money into this unless there was a collectors set or something introduced and then ... well maybe. When David gets something on here for me to consider I will consider it then.
There really is only so much we can do without any help from the creators of the Kickstarter themselves. It is difficult not getting at least a bit despondent though when you watch the total going down and down. Any lower and that projection cone is going to be a flat line.
i think you should still start in a cobra unless you have pledged a load of money then you could start in a better one.perhaps people who have pledged £20 or less should start in a planetary lifter.
@Philip Turner, I can imagine damaging a space station, but destroying it would be annoying in the multiplayer side. Imagine travelling somewhere to find it gone?
Sorry, but I have to disagree there
To have the focus of ED on the consoles would be a disaster! Both Consoles are dated, with old looking graphics, and would only hold back the potential of the game
Sure port it over later on, scaling back the graphics etc but not to make it the focus of the project!
And you wont need a high end PC, the game will be scalable to run on lesser hardware also.
You could build a PC that will run it (I assume based on current specs for games adjusted for future) for around the £250 mark
Hardly bank breaking is it?
No @Kerrash! Really, my favourite games all rolled into one: Civilisation V, Rome: Total War, Elite/Frontier, Mass Effect 2, Half-Life 1.
Let's brainstorm this thing!
Just a thought way out there. Was just wondering if we could actual destroy a space station this time, or if not, damage it, but see the damage we cause?
@AI: because "old" sounds so rude to many people ;-)
I quite liked the style of the Cobra III from the original BBC cover. Similar styling, but more curved.
over 3,500 GBP in the last 30 minutes and 12 new backers - not bad for a lazy monday afternoon
Perhaps a compromise would be to allow you to see 3D environments of a market place for stock and a bar for the bulletin board etc. and just choose an option to move between them
@Stuart Why is everything older than 38 days, 42 minutes, 12 seconds described as a "classic" these days?
@ Nick Morgan : Elite is game for computer ... I don't want to see Elite on XBox or PS3 (I have a PS3).
Let's hope so! Although I'm actually happy that the number of backers have gone up rather then down. (SC backers dropping their pledge to buy something more over at SC). Tonight it is going to be interesting to watch what happens.
@gregory LOL - sorry a.i. but coulnd't help it
@Daniel Mordant. I love the idea of meeting other backers in a bar, but I am till not sure if FPS would be right for Elite. RFc?
@A.I. But the Mark I Escort is a classic. Fashions come and go.
What you have described just made me puke.
Im finding it very hard not to abuse you.
@Steve50 - Although I would like to be able to view my ship when docked so I can see all the latest blast marks and hull damage from near-missile blasts and where I've just scraped the hull on docking.
A.i. DB would have the button of course :P
I'm too for a first person view, once landed, it'll be mor eimmersive to go to bar, shop, gamibling...
Quarter of the way through the KS campaign.
Time to get serious please DB!
@Kerrash That would be awesome!
I still think you should develop this on the XBOX360/PS3 first - high end PC's are so very expensive for a late 30s father of two. I loved Elite on mt BBC Master and can't wait for this one - I just have no interest in spending a fortune on a PC. Thank about it, it makes perfect sense, good network, good graphics and everyone gets the same experience for next to no cost.
...how to determine who has the pause button? That is the question...
@nats don't hate - make love !! or do your jonty or whatever you call it where you live ;p
@steve: ok, not a fpS, but a FPV if you prefer (first person view not for shooting... unless necessary !)
Oh, and as it's multi-player and MMO'ish, we can only have one pause button. The player with the pause button can pause everyone else's game-play while he goes and makes a cup of tea/to buy some pastries at Sainsbury's.
@Steve50 : Agree with you. Elite don't need that
@AI Exiting ship to an fps? Oh please please Noo!!!!
A.i. I can imagine a trailer that starts looking at a coaster, zooms out of a glass dome and then keeps going to the edge of the galaxy before showing the Elite IV logo...
Hate to say it but this might be the lowest days total of the project so far :-(
Still SC finishes in 3 hours - will that make a difference I wonder?
@a.i. depends on what you are smoking !
@A.I. : yes, a zero-G space walk would be great
@tim well i guess we will have a galaxy to play with in ELITE. luckly there will then be no need to spam this ks with new star system every other day ;P
yeah, new ships would be awesome. still, i for one cry out for an updated fer-de-lance ^^
@deusx not sure still browsing, lots on there...
Future DLC maybe! :)
So what do we need to make this the ultimate space game?
(1) Exiting ship to an FPS, walking in stations, on planets, in space (space walk!).
(2) Setting up factories either in space or on planets/moons, founding villiages/towns (Sim City style:).
(3) Remote control of ships and assets from the comfort of your display screen.
(4) The ability to create, test and evaluate roller-coasters.
OK the above ^ is pipe-dream... but that's what would make it the ultimate in my book.
Redesign of some of the old ships would be great, alongside lots of new ones. Never mind how many star systems there are, I want to know how many ships I get to choose from to be able to explore the expanse.
@kerrash is that E:D forum any good (excuse the blasphemy)?!
Collating all the ideas would be useful, definitely. :)
A.I. - The Liberator.
The Cobra Mk.III on the concept art looks really nice to me. Probably my age!
I think the Cobra mark III needs a significant style upgrade from its previous incarnation. Less wedge-shaped, more curved perhaps, and symmetric around the Z axis rather than flat on one side. You know the originals were done because you can use simple hidden triangle removal with convex bodies, right? There's no need for that now.
I did like the Imperial Trader in frontier. It reminded me a bit of the ship in Blake's 7 (anyone remember that?). That's an example of a cool looking ship.
The Cobra is dated. A bit like a Ford Mk 1 Escort. I say RETIRE IT!
Thanks for listening.
Perfect Kerrash - thank you. Joining and adding.
Like your style.
See you in space
