      That sounds funny, we sat and watched Forbidden Forest on youtube a few days ago - the creature at the end that you can only see when the lightning strikes - freaky, what you said reminded me of that.

      @ A.I.

      Might look rubbish- but it still plays great. :) I was at a retro computer fair recently, and the guy I was playing with lost all control, when frightened by the "Chatter" robot came to life and started attacking him. It might be an old 80but game, but even now it (apparently!) had him immersed...

      We finished that game, but took a loooooong summer to do it. Again, the novella that came with it was BRILLIANT at setting the scene.

      We were terrified by this line: "Invisible death stalks the gloom"

      Scary stuff.

    3. Creator A.I. on November 12, 2012

      Ah Exile... That game was awesome, although I never managed to get my head around it. First time I heard voice in a game too. I think you can get it on beeb emulator. It's totally rubbish when I look at it today :).

    4. Creator Darkmoon on November 12, 2012

      Love Starship command! Great particle effects back in the day.

    5. Creator deusx_ophc on November 12, 2012

      good night all. the best thing about a long nights sleep is not knowing what tomorrow might bring. with a bit of luck some sweet E:D updates =)

    6. Creator Dice Man on November 12, 2012

      Anyone remember Star ShipCommand by the way? Peter Irvin of Exile fame. Still play that one from time to time.

    7. Creator V3teran on November 12, 2012

      @Dice Man - 'nuff said!!

    10. Creator Dice Man on November 12, 2012

      @Ray, honestly, you are right but I might be pushing it with the Dice Lady!

    11. Creator Jason S on November 12, 2012

      Imagine it with one of the new headsets that are being developed

    12. Creator Ray Watkinson on November 12, 2012

      @Dice Man - £750 plus a round trip air fare...worth every penny

    13. Creator Commander Keith [@mistertricker] on November 12, 2012

      @Chris You are dead right about the teaching kids Physics aspect of playing the game. I think it was all a bit overwhelming but it was funny to see the two of them huddled over the keyboard and mouse trying to figure it out. I showed them the JIM PLAYS GAMES tutorial on You Tube first which helped a lot especially since I haven't played it myself for nearly 20 years!!! The eldest one is obsessed with Google Earth and I hope that Dangerous will be closer to that than Frontier graphically.

    14. Creator Captain Dangerous on November 12, 2012

      I don't know if I am allowed to post this here but it will give those who missed The Dark Wheel a chance to read it. And give those who did read it a chance to read it again!

    15. Creator Andrew Dickson [Smug mode 'ON' :o)] on November 12, 2012

      Yep £67 above target. Well done all. More days like today please!

      :)

    16. Creator Dice Man on November 12, 2012

      Well, other than missing the launch party.....lol.

    17. Creator Continuity on November 12, 2012

      wow, I lost Soooo many hours to Frontier Elite... You have my pledge. All I ask is that you make don't stray too far from the original formula, but from your pitch I can see that you're very much on the right track in that regard.

    18. Creator Dice Man on November 12, 2012

      @Chris - sweet man! Been here 3 months, no regrets so far :D

    19. Creator Ray Watkinson on November 12, 2012

      @ All - Got it, Guys. Ta much for the steer....

    20. Creator Keith Stocker on November 12, 2012

      @Ray - If my maths is right (unlikely) we are now at 15381 for today. Daily target is 15374.

    21. Creator Nats on November 12, 2012

      Woohoo! £435,800 was the magic number! We have made today's target, anything else is extra. You may all go home now, or not.

    22. Creator Darkmoon on November 12, 2012

      @Dice Man: Maybe I'll see you there then, passed my IELTS last weekend ;-)

    23. Creator Nats on November 12, 2012

      @ Christopher I see Ian is looking for new models, should we put Jonty's name down for it?

    24. Creator deusx_ophc on November 12, 2012

      the kicktraq is on Uk time - it updates every few minutes, not checked it yet but it is frequent

    25. Creator Dice Man on November 12, 2012

      @Chris - I'd be there at the launch party, 100%, if I hadn't moved to Oz this year :(

    26. Creator Dave Hooper [Elite: Premium+mug+8 books] on November 12, 2012

      It only seems to update every hour so it lags the number on here.

    27. Creator Ivan Coleman on November 12, 2012

      Jason Bradbury or Jon Wotsit from the Gadget Show? Worth trying to find a contact for them?

    28. Creator Kerrash on November 12, 2012

      Ah ha Thanks @Dave, didn't notice that before

    29. Creator Darkmoon on November 12, 2012

      @Nats: Fluorescent body painting in a psycheadelic Elite themed anti-party has to be the best chance of getting Ian back in the fold.

    30. Creator Kerrash on November 12, 2012

      @Ray, I think we've passed it

    31. Creator Dave Hooper [Elite: Premium+mug+8 books] on November 12, 2012

      Only a few hundred quid to make today's target. Does kicktraq reset the timer on American time - if so that means we've probably got 6 hours more to get way past today's target rather than 1 hour.

    32. Creator Ray Watkinson on November 12, 2012

      @All - Who's got the project calculator? Have we reached today's target yet?

    33. Creator Nats on November 12, 2012

      @ Christopher - Applying luminous body paint and photographing it as art. Now that is a job I want to get into. I understand now why Ian cannot be bothered with Elite anymore lol!!

    34. Creator Kerrash on November 12, 2012

      @Nat Saiger. Procedural lovelyness :D

    35. Creator Darkmoon on November 12, 2012

      @Dice man: Nice ;-)

      @All: Shame the launch party tickets are £750 a pop. I reckon we could host our own Elite launch rave in a London venue. Theme: Lave Nightclub. Just imagine; the pumping avant garde electronic music - a Cobra Mk III suspended above the dancefloor made entirely from fluorescent tubes. We could even get Ian Bell to do the fluorescent body paint.

      I emailed the Sun about this last week.....I don't actually read it though so not sure what'll happen

    37. Creator Jamie Pears on November 12, 2012

      @jonathan Flower aye i remember that you got the argent by offering a big donation at the funeral

    38. Creator deusx_ophc on November 12, 2012

      lol @damien

    39. Creator Jonathan Flower on November 12, 2012

      For me it all started with Frontier: First Encounters on my new pentium PC. I was the first of my friends to discover the Argent's Quest. Yay me. hahaa. Lets get this game funded one and all!!!!

    40. Creator Dice Man on November 12, 2012

      Unleash the Jonty!

    41. Creator Ray Watkinson on November 12, 2012

      @Keith - Oh! I wouldn't go that far...beat the Magpies at the weekend :-D

    42. Creator A.I. on November 12, 2012

      There's a fair amount of pre-processing going on in most FPS's - manual artist tweaking and so on. Very hard to make a decent stab at it with an algorithm. Generating the shells and a city is tractable, but making the buildings themselves make sense inside is much harder!

    43. Creator deusx_ophc on November 12, 2012

      Jonty to be revealed as new face of FD tomorrow lunch time ;p he has been on twitter today

    44. Creator Ray Watkinson on November 12, 2012

      Cool @Dice man, very cool....

    45. Creator Dice Man on November 12, 2012

      On-line form, probably goes nowhere but worth a try - anyone got his actual email address?!

    46. Creator Keith Stocker on November 12, 2012

      @ Ray - Me too - first game back in 68/9. Feels like we have been waiting for success as long as we have been waiting for an update to Elite!
