Welcome to the world of Warlords of Terra!
Warlords of Terra or "WoT" has been finally catalogued by us as a "Battlefield Faction Card Game". The first word makes it quite clear: this game takes place on a real battlefield (5x5 free movement grid) in which your troops will have to move strategically in order to overcome your enemies.
The necessary to play WoT is two players, one deck for each one (composed by a building deck -15 cards-, a battle deck -40cards- and a hero card), and a playmat for each one too. By putting playmats one opposite to the other, players will form the 5x5 grid battlefield. Each kingdom has its own playmat custom design!
That was everything needed to play WoT. However, we recommend using a small amount of tokens (coins etc are suitable) and some D6 small dice to indicate damage on troops. Also, D20 dice are good idea to indicate players' life points.
The target is simple and seen in other famous games: our opponent has 20 life points and we must reduce their life to 0 or below. But the strong difference is the way you will have to achieve that. Moving troops will make spatial tactics completely necessary to win. This fact, along with other innovations like our exclusive resource system, makes from WoT a new card game experience you probably didn't have before!
- The context: the Battlefield
As previously explained, each player puts their playmat to represent their kingdom/part of the battlefield. Two playmats one opposite to the other form the complete battlefield. But for better understanding, let's show all parts of a single playmat:
An interesting point is that each player may use their faction custom design 35x60 playmat, and this makes immersion and faction identity even stronger. Here we show you the four faction playmats in WoT right now:
- The DDR (Double Deck & Resource) system:
As you can see in the picture below, there are both GOLD and MANA resources. Place cards are usually built with gold, and troops and other battle cards are played most of times with mana. Place cards arre put in a "building deck", and battle cards in "battle deck". That is part of the double deck system we followed to avoid excess or lack of resources, and make the player the one who decides when to draw resources or battle cards.
Although 1 mana/gold is added by default each turn, the first thing players should do in WoT is build their initial place cards in the building area, for them to add more resources the following turns and develop their resource curve properly. Remember that place cards often cost GOLD, so this will be the most important resource at this moment of the match.
It could seem that Gold will become useless after the beginning of the game, when places have been built. Nevertheless,object cards, some card abilities or the simple "Double Draw" rule (draw 2 cards in a turn for 5 gold) will take good profit of this resource for the rest of the game.
MANA is needed ususally for battle cards, which are TROOPS, SPELLS, and OBJECTS (the last type of cards are usually played paying gold), although this won't be an "absolute" rule: game alternatives have been already planned for the future.
- Spatial Tactics:
So, our target is beating our opponent y reducing their life points below 1. But it won't be as easy as it seems. We must deploy troops on our Invocation Line, the first line on the battlefield, and reach opponent's line to deal damage to them, if they don't have defending troops there.
That forces us to think about the best side to deploy, the way to move troops, always thinking about possible area spells that could affect them, or many other spatial skills/factors.
As you can see in next picture, troop cards have a conventional structure, but with an exception, the SPEED value (from up to down - ATK, LIFE and SPEED).
The threat area (all adjacent zones to a prepared -"on guard"- troop) determines the zones our troop is guarding, ready to stop any enemy that is crossing through them and fighting it. The combat system will result pretty familiar to any pvp card gamer, with "no damage removal" system, so that our troops will remain wounded if we don't heal them in any way.
When our troops reach opponent's Invocation Line and hit them, they'll take damage equal to our hitting troop's ATK value (if there are no adjacent enemy troops). When life points become 0 or less, a player loses the match. Easy...easy? Check by yourselves!
- The Heroes
It's not unusual to see champion or hero cards in card games since years ago. But often they remain as an "extra" complement or card, playable or not. In WoT, heroes define deck mechanics and interact with them, forming a (sometimes strong sometimes not) specific synergy. Moreover, heroes also define how players will "curve" resources, since they nourish from their controller's resources to empower themselves and be able to use powerful abilities.
Only ONE hero is allowed per deck, and it will be put on Hero zone or "throne", from the beginning until the end of the match.

- The sales format: Faction Card Game
Although WoT was originally thought as a traditional TCG game, in order to adapt better to new times and markets, we developed a new sales system named by ourselves "Faction Card Game". This means that there won't be booster packs, but closed boxes with a fix content on them instead.
The main difference between our format and others already seen is that a player doesn't have to buy a whole collection/expansion set to play a 100% competitive deck, with access to all cards available for it. Why? Because boxes are sold as "Faction" boxes or "Alliance" boxes, where players will only find all cards of the chosen faction, or an alliance of this faction with another one. So the player will be able to focus on their favourite kingdom and not buying full expansions if they don't want.
- The Awesome Artwork
Warlords of Terra is not only the result of an enormous effort, technically speaking, to make an original game, with innovative and very deep but easy-to-learn mechanics. It's also the result of a great effort made by a team of designers and artists, who finally achieved an incredible environment inspired a bit in 90's art, with strong frames that show a strong personality in each kingdom, reinforcing their own identity. The illustrations speak for themselves, so we leave you some cards that prove it.

The idea of making Warlords of Terra was born in early 2013, while Marco (CEO of M2R GAMES) was playing some turn-strategy based PC game, one of his favourite games. The creator of WoT, also a card games lover, decided to develop a new game which would put together both concepts: spatial tactics/battles and cards.
The game was in development phase for almost 2 years. It took much time, changes, tests and re-tests to achieve a suitable, balanced and dynamic system. But finally we got it, and in 2015 we were ready to officially release Wot. The main problem was the same as always: money. But we finally found some economic support, with one condition: developing it in digital platform, which could be more profitable -and so interesting- for investors.
We found a small team of junior programmers and graphic designers and, it couldn't be otherwise, the project was too complex and failed due to a lack of experience and ability of the team. A real nightmare that lasted a whole year. Then the project, with its own (fortunately failed) Kickstarter campaign, was abandoned by all members.
But instead of leaving his dream go away, Marco decided to do it his way: after asking for a loan, he printed some prototype decks and playmats and started travelling around Spain, showing it to different shops and communities. Then, in 2016, he releases the first Verkami (Spanish crowdfunding platform) campaign for the physical version of Warlords of Terra. And incredibly the project achieved getting the 12.000€ needed to produce the first product.
Some Spanish reviewers, youtubers and board game experts could try WoT, and we can proudly say almost always got a possitive opinion/analysis from them. From them, and from players in general.
In 2017 we tried to produce the whole basic set, but in TCG format. Spanish community didn't receive this with any joy and the Verkami campaign to fund that project failed. But once again, Marco had to reinvent the project and developed Faction Card Game format. Then, a new Kickstarter campaign and new trips for demos around the country would come. This format found better acceptation, and the campaign got funded, making possible the production of the Faction Boxes you can see in this campaign, but in Spain and in Spanish.
This and 2018 were great years for WoT. Although we must recognize the game didn't consolidate in Spain in general (lack of resources for marketing campaign, lack of big brand support...), some communities, distributed all around the country, played WoT and celebrated some tournaments. The activity, focused in Valencia, Córdoba and some other regions flourished a bit and Wot community grew modestly.
Also in 2018, M2R GAMES tried with a new Verkami campaign to produce The Awakening, the expansion set that brings to WoT new concepts like mercenary cards and the new 2 kingdoms: Arcadia and Undersouls (also available to unlock for this campaign).
Now, in 2019, with The Awakening set about to arrive to Spain, we present this KS campaign in order to make Warlords of Terra international. What happens in the future, is up to you...

- Real Gameplay
Most of the times, watching a real match is more useful to understand a game than any explanation. So, we have translated a REAL match into English for you to see WoT "in action". No preparation of cards, no changes, no cuts. Two real players in a real tournament. Enjoy!
Note: there are many more videos in our YouTube channel Warlords of Terra and our CM (Josh Herrero) personal channel Krosmaster Team Spain. Although they're all in Spanish, after understanding the game and mechanics you'll be able to follow the matches without problem. Some of them are really exciting!

Risks and challenges
According to our own experience, delays are a common factor in our campaigns. It's usually due to unexpected inconveniences with printing company (formats, dielines, designs...) which modify initial delivery date. We've tried to be provident by setting delivery date in December, but we must recognize one never knows what problems can find on the way.
