Final 36 Hours! New Stretch Goals including a $350k MEGAGOAL! Can we get there?


The End Times (of this Kickstarter) Are Upon Us!

Chris, Kelvin, Keir and I cannot believe that there are only 1.5 days left. Its has been an incredible ride, and we'll write more about that tomorrow.

But today's order of business is:

New Stretch Goals!

We've been so fortunate to have your support to make Darkest Dungeon funded this well so far!

Although our most distant stretch goals ($400k+) look to be impossible at this point, we have been putting our heads together around the Red Hook office and having intense discussions about how we can deliver the best game possible to all of you.  We've also listened a lot to your comments about the upcoming exciting stretch goals, especially concerning Cinematics (told in the style of our "Terror and Madness" and "House of Ruin" trailers) and Steam Workshop support (to allow mod creation!), for which there is a ton of support all around.

In talking and planning, we explored how both of those key stretch goals actually require different personnel and can be done in parallel.  We also talked a lot about how much we, ourselves, want them both in the game.  Given how well the campaign has done, we believe that if we hit that $350k Cinematics goal, we can find a way to do BOTH. 

So, here are two Stretch Goal changes that we hope you'll be as excited about as we are:

  • $285k mini-goal: The Ancestor's Items - 6 rare and powerful trinkets dropped from the expedition of your Ancestor in which he uncovered the Darkest Dungeon, to his eventual demise. You can find these powerful and mysterious items while adventuring.
  • $350k MEGA-GOAL: Steam Workshop support has been reduced from $400k and has been added to the $350k Cinematics goal, creating a monstrous, lumbering MEGAGOAL- ZOMG! Why choose chocolate or peanut butter when you can have both?!

What You Can Do to Help

First of all, just by backing, you have done an amazing amount and we thank you! No further action required, of course!

But if you love that MEGAGOAL as much as we do, then consider spreading the word about Darkest Dungeon in these final hours on your favorite websites, forums, and social networks.

You can remind people that there are several huge benefits to backing:


  • Get rewards that you won't be able to get when the game releases
  • Become part of ongoing backer polls and see concept art and game ideas throughout development (WANDERER $20 tier and higher)

Grave Robber Revealed!

Nimble, versatile and self-sufficient, the Grave Robber sparkles with value like a gold ring on the finger of a fresh corpse!  She's able to deftly evade incoming hits and make lethal use of her poisoned daggers at range or in close quarters.  The Grave Robber's real speciality however, is navigating long-forgotten tunnels silently, disarming traps, seeking out hidden passageways and uncovering ancient caches of valuable treasure!

      Can I just say the character designs are absolutely boss? Like a few others have said, sooo good to see some female characters not in chainmail bikinis, looking like... well, like they're ready for an actual adventure. But really, all of them are good, I love the grim and brutal aesthetic, it really matches the feeling I think you guys are going for with the gameplay.

      Cool! I think I might have to go with an all-female crew - they turn out to be my favourite designs, along with the Occultist. The Grave Robber is excellent. So NOT hot blonde fantasy babe (or buxom tomb raider), she seems competent, dangerous and interesting.

      Least favourite design for me is still the Jester - for me he sticks out most from the others, tonewise. He's too "ninja death killer" - like something from a game trying to be "edgy" - compared to the more down-to-earth adventurers, But hey, others seem to love him.

      Really hope this campaign makes it to the Megagoal... Seems really promising. Just hope it works out for you guys cash/workload-wise. It's a big commitment.

      I kinda wish this KS campaign wasn't coming to an end, but such is the way of the world. This is usually the most exciting part of any campaign (other than the beginning) and I look forward to seeing how far we can push within the next 32 hours! Definitely want to try to hit that Megagoal!!

      The Grave Robber looks much better now with all of the tweaks that went on during the stream (though I'm still not feeling her hat that much...). In any case, farewell fair Ninja Digger Girl, we hardly knew ye...

      This campaign could have really used addons. I would love to have the backer only class, but I'm not interested in betas or alphas and I trust you all to make a fine game without my access to any forums. I'd pay to customize a hero maybe, too. I'm backing a lot of things right now though so I need each one to have real bang for the buck. I'm so excited for this game and am dying to throw money at it...

      Best of luck reaching these goals.
      I already backed enough to get a second game for my friend. (And the sound track!)
      Just curious, are you going to only accept these goals via kickstarter, or are you going to factor in money from paypal and whatnot after the kickstarter is over towards them?

      Stretch goals are incentives, they never matched the amount needed to accomplish what they offer. It's not a shop for 6 new items, it's a reward given while increasing the pool. This pool is then used to further enhance what it's for (in this case, the game), and maybe the previous/next stretch goal.

      The 350k would be great, with pp and 36 more hours it can be done ;)

      @Erik Glad you think so! Working on another female character today, actually.

      @Joel We actually just added the 285 goal in. It didn't exists before, but we wanted to eat the cost ourselves as a thank you to everyone who helped us get so far in the campaign.

      @Tsusaku It's a long shot, no doubt, but if we somehow manage to get there, we want it to be a BIG deal.

      @Jim The color customization has a gameplay benefit if we allow multiple instances of the same class to be used in the same party. Many people are passionate about the cosmetic aspect, but we understand it's not on everyone's wish list.

      I dont think this KS can go that high in tha last couple of hours, but if the campain continue on your pages after KS through Pay-Pal and you put the money from it together with the KS money, i am sure that even the 500k goal is possible in say 2 months from now.

      Gotta say, it's kinda hard to feel the urge to up my backing with that colour customisation sat there at 300,000. Just not seeing that as something to push for even with much more interesting content afterwards.
