Quick question. The stretch goal for $325k says that all orders over $135 will get the Lorren bookplate signed by Pat. Does that mean that only the pledge levels over $135 get it? Let's say I have the $85 level pledge but I've added to that to get over $135 to get some of the add ons.. do I get the signed bookplate or no? Because as much I want that bookplate... none of the levels over the $85 (all the things and a jot, which I currently have) that are available right now have a jot included...and I really, really want that jot.
@Ben, Ah, I thought all cards were going to be like that. Kinda sad that that's not the case.
Stephen, it means that the top and bottom versions of the card will be slightly different. Similar to the way the Kvothe/Kote card has him happy/sad and such.
Might be a stupid question, but does the stretch goal for inverse art mean one on each side of the card?
Damn, just read through the comments and saw that the wallpaper pack was free. Awesome.
Erik, can you confirm that there are currently 9 different magnets? I just changed my pledge because I'd like to get all of them, but I haven't seen a selection of all the magnets listed in one spot, just spread among the add-ons. Also, I seem to have missed whether the desktop wallpaper pack would be free or another add-on.
I propose a bookmark/magnet thingy. I have one that folds over a page. It'd be cool to have one like that with NOTW art
@Nolan, lol its all good. We all have those moments!
@Stephen Haha sometimes I don't even think.
@Nolan, you can always make another account and get another $11 pledge. Or just refresh a lot and wait for one to open. I see one open every other day.
Can you add more $20 pledges. I want two decks!
Can we make it? Is OVER 9000 backers possible?
I think we can.
@PMan - Thank you! I swear I looked for it, because I thought I remembered something about it... If it was a snake it would have bit me. :)
@Rowan, It has been stated that all backers get the wallpaper pack. It was stated in the updates:
"How do stretch goals work?
The idea behind a stretch goal is to give our backers an incentive to raise awareness about the project or pledge more funds. In return, when we unlock one of the stretch goals, there is a benefit for you.
Sometimes this is something that is free to everyone, like the Wallpaper pack..."
@William Wolfe, yeah I know. I meant time wise for the picture of the money. Probably wouldn't take a great deal of time to add it in but I know NOTHING about what these fine gentlemen do.
@Stephen Cowart There is a conversion widget on pats blog for the different types of money, if you didn't know
@Sasha Kasoff, I'm not talking about the gaff (that's Lorren btw). I'm talking about the Elodin's question card cover. "Where does the moon go when it is no longer in our sky?" He says that in the second book. I'm not really sure why you're talking about the gaff.
(I know the wallpaper is unlocked, but I've not seen it anywhere else, so that's why I listed it as an add-on - I have no idea if it's supposed to be included with every pledge or not.)
I have a couple ideas for some stretch goals. 1. A few examples of what sygaldry looks like? 2. Pat Rothfuss Gold Ring Favor Lottery, I know that it was veeeeeeery popular during worldbuilders, I think one sold for like 10k??? Anyone who funds the kickstarter for the minimum deck value is entered, but we'd have to hit the goal for it to happen
Inexpensive/easy extensions cont'd: Cheap Add-On: For a low price, a package of some/all of the various card art to use as electronic device backgrounds. Similar to the art prints/magnets.
@Stephen Cowart - the quote on the gaff isn't from his book, it's from the 14th century in our world
Something we could do for everyone is have a bookmark with all the runes on it?
As requested, I'm posting some pledge tiers/stretch goals/addons that don't cost money directly, and shouldn't cost too much time or effort: Here's my first idea: Pledge Tier: Somewhat inexpensive ($5-15), and limited number tier enters the pledger into a lottery to give Pat/Shane a musical assignment similar to the "I crush everything" song. Song choice must meet the approval of Pat/Shane. Song/artwork is then posted to YouTube for general fan enjoyment.
The lyrics to Jackass as a stretch goal and guilders as addons?
I haven't really thought this through, but for a new stretch goal, what about a lottery? You can select one or (however many winners you like out of the backers, or raise the amount of winners with more stretch goals) to receive their choice of a magnet or print - any one of the add-on's that Albino Dragon and Pat would select. And hopefully that wouldn't eat too much into your profits, as well as people feeling they are getting more free stretch goals. You wouldn't be committed to creating more art either - hopefully it wouldn't be to much extra work. Just an idea - not sure realistically how well it would work.
I'd second the Tehlu wheel pendant like the one on the Tinker's Packs. They are awesome. One with a leather cord please! :D
I don't use bookmarks on my hardcovers because they damage the pages ;)
I'll throw in my vote for a map of anything. Maps are awesome.
Also, I would also like to add my vote to the request that the main page updated with more information about all the add-ons now available. However, I have to keep reminding myself that you are only two people doing all of this and you have to eat and sleep sometime. I can't imagine trying to organize a project this big and that is also constantly expanding. Keep up the awesome work!
@Sasha, technically the quote from Elodin's card cover is from book two so I don't see why tak isn't an option. Although I always saw tak as go.
For a add on / stretch goal / whatever maybe a postcard size ish thing that has drawings of each type of money. I know there are quite a few (nobels, talents, jots, etc) and would be really cool to see what they look like. I wouldn't think this would TOO much work compared to something like an art book and I for one would love it. Also if you did this maybe having the conversions would be cool as well (1 talent = x jots, etc)
@Malexmave – book covers add on is $5 I believe
@Giba Faber – can’t use tak, that’s in book 2
Who's pumped for some new goals?!
Possible Stretch Goal or add on - Kilvin's lamp key-chain (LED or not)
actually I don't like my bookmarks sticking out because it might get bent when i'm carrying books in a bag etc :) heck if its an 'award' from a cards kickstarter i'd want it the shape and size of a playing card to commemorate it heh
@Taravangian: They said you can use it as a bookmark, like you can use any playing card, really. The only difference is this one doesn't fulfill any function in the deck. It's still the size of a playing card, though. Bookmarks are usually a bit more stretched out so the top sticks out between the pages even if it drops a bit.
A idea for an add-on could be a deck of cards, or art prints with the complete underlying line art.
Maybe as a stretch goal, we could get a poem or lyrics to a song that is mentioned in the books bu never heard of? Perhaps an excerpt of some sort from Daeonica or some other literature?
Isn't the Lorren gaff card essentially supposed to be a bookmark?
d20s or d10s with specialized pips. Preferably something other Tehlu's wheel for these ones.
I really like the bookmark idea, maybe with some simple art and the quote from the inside cover of Rhetoric and Logic that Abenthy left for Kvothe?
Defend yourself well at the University. Make me proud.
Remember your father's song. Be wary of folly.
Where's an edit button when you need one, some more suggestions.
Possibly a digital version of some sheet music and/or lyrics of the songs from NotW and maybe include the children's rhymes etc.
The last thing I could think of for now is some character sheets of some of the main characters, perhaps using a couple of characters not in the deck. A sheet with a picture of the entire character and his birthplace, age, level of study, specialisation, short description etc. (either as a digital version or as a print).
I support the idea of a digital PDF artbook; a physical one would mean quite a bit of extra work and I think many people, including me, wouldn't be able to afford it.
A map of the university/Imre or of the entire continent would be lovely too, you could add to the wallpaper pack so we can always see where Kvothe's adventures have led him.
Maybe you could also draw up some of the schematics from the workshop, a bit like a DIY collectible. You get to create your own item from the NotW literature :).
And as long as you're creating the mead recipe you might want to consider some sort of cookbook with some of the recipes from the Waystone Inn and other establishments.
Will the silver-plates talent pipes look like the 'plain' silver onces or like the 'antiqued' silver ones?
@Datalaughing > But in the book looks more complex than Go
I think a Name of the Wind bookmark would be an cool add-on
Tak sounded a lot like Go in the book.
Is Tak ( Bredon's game) a real game? Because tak's rules would be awesome!!!
Four Corners rules?
someone mentioned a concept art book from Shane's book, can we get something like that going? it doesn't have to be a 80 page book, something like 30-40 pages, would include his concepts of drawings half finished and a few drawings that weren't used, we all know he has at least 1..
I suppose it'd be too big of a thing to add an add-on of a wooden Metheglin tankard? Like one that says "Eolian" on the side with engraved talent pipes?
I really like the idea of the maps.
I think it might also be cool to have the metheglin recipe written out on a scroll or old parchment as an add on tier.
I know that sounds silly, but I make mead every year for family and friends and it would look pretty cool framed in the kitchen if it were on old timey parchment.
You could do a stretch goal with a digital art book PDF with each of the card images at various stages of design along with some comments by Shane and/or Pat about how they developed, even a couple of joke versions you could randomly throw in. Basically like the hangouts but in an e-book form. Seems like something you could put together with relatively little effort but that everyone would love.
@Alberto- I was thinking the same thing watching them talk about elaborate locks in this live blog
