Hey Yall! Welcome to the Ole' West!
Prospectors are flockin' out here to try to make they's riches, hopin' to strike gold. But us, we got a better idea don't we? That's right! Regardless of who finds the gold, everyone is gonna need a place to stay, play, and drink. So let's build the best gald darn Saloon that's ever been built!
Saloon Tycoon is a 2-4 player tile laying game that plays in about 40-60 minutes and is unlike any other game you've played before! Not only can you place tiles side by side, but you can also place them on TOP of each other! Simple enough for casual gamers, but deep enough for experienced gamers... come on and let's get buildin'!
In Saloon Tycoon players take turns taking one action on their turn. Most turns are fast and there isn't much down time between turns. First, you earn your income in gold based on the number of tiles in your Saloon. Then you will take an action. You may buy and build a tile by placing it on your board. Or maybe you will play a Tycoon Card to get some gold or give you more actions.
Each turn you have the opportunity to buy supply cubes to place on your tiles. Once you have fully supplied a tile it is considered to be complete and you get that tile's bonus! Even though you normally only get one action, through card play and tile bonuses, you could accomplish an awful lot in one turn.
Each player will have some secret objectives, called Secret Claims, they are trying to accomplish. There are also common objectives available to everyone, called Open Claims. These objectives will require completing certain tiles and/or attracting certain characters to your Saloon.
Characters you say? That's right! There are some influential Citizens in town as well as some unsavory Outlaws. Build and complete special tiles to attract the Citizens for additional points, but beware the Outlaws... they can make your life as a Saloon owner more difficult.
Build tiles, attract Citizens, and complete Objectives to earn the most Reputation Points and win the game!

Shipping is a fact of life when it comes to delivering board games. Be sure to keep reading and check out our HUBS Concept below to see how you could receive up to a 100% refund on shipping! Here is the breakdown of shipping costs for each pledge level by country.
If you follow our projects, you are aware that we try something new each time. In the past, we have done things like Loyalty Rewards, Instant Rewards, and we have even shipped games BEFORE the Kickstarter project was even over!
For this Kickstarter, we want to introduce to you the concept of HUBS. HUBS is meant to attack the problem of shipping costs for as many backers as is possible and are willing. First and foremost, we want to make sure that everyone understands that you should back this project with the expectation that you will pay the full shipping cost. There is no guarantee of discounted shipping and we reserve the right to abandon/discontinue the HUBS process for any reason. Having said that, there should be an opportunity for some of you to get back some or even all of your shipping cost. ALSO, THERE IS NO OBLIGATION! If you want your game shipped directly to you, that is what we will do!
Here is how it works: Once we have everyone’s shipping addresses we will perform a zip code level analysis to determine how many backers are in a particular area. For everyone in a zone that showed interest in participating (via post project survey), you will get an email or message indicating how much money you will be reimbursed, and asking you to confirm participation OR deny and have the game shipped directly to you.
For example, let’s say having performed the analysis we found there are 22 backers in and around the 77062 zip code in Houston, Texas. Only 18 were interested in participating in HUBS, so we calculate the shipping cost to ship those 18 to the BASE HUB and compare it to the cost it would ship to everyone individually. Then we factor in our own fees and expenses. We then divide the remainder of the shipping evenly among the 18 participants and return an equal amount (up to the cost of shipping) to each! In this example, we would expect it would be a very high % refund of shipping if not the full amount.
The map below is a real world view of backers in one of our previous campaigns. You can see that there are several areas in this portion of the northeast of backers within a few miles of each other. If they are all willing to meet at a designated Base HUB to get their game the shipping cost is minimized! And we want to return that savings to YOU!
When the campaign is over there will be a survey sent to you. If you have backed projects before, you know how this works. You will give your address and some other details in the survey. We will ask you a few important questions in the survey regarding HUBS and if you would like to participate.
What are the benefits? You save money and the project saves money. You don’t have to do any work coordinating a group buy, but can benefit if there are others in your area backing the game!
What is the catch? There isn’t one really, other than you will have to coordinate with your BASE HUB and go pick up your game locally, but you know that up front and if that isn’t something that seems worth it you simply opt out and we will ship yours directly to you. Everything else is handled for you, refunds of shipping can be done through KS and we do all the analysis work.
What are the risks? Well the biggest is not getting enough participation or you are in an area where there just simply were not any other backers. If we don’t have participation, there is no HUBS. Also this includes having at least one volunteer to be the BASE HUB in an eligible area with multiple backers. All of these are reasons why we advise everyone to ASSUME YOU ARE PAYING FULL SHIPPING and any possible refund is simply a bonus.
Will VRG still offer Group Buys? Yes! Especially for international it is probably unlikely there will be enough volume in most areas for the HUBS concept to yield benefit (however even just a few in the same area could save you a decent amount). We still encourage taking advantage of the multiple copies level to guarantee a reduction in cost per game.
As with all of our campaigns, we stand behind our products 100% and if you are unhappy with the game, you may return it for a refund up to 30 days after receiving it. We appreciate you being a first adopter and your ultimate satisfaction is most important to us.

Risks and challenges
Van Ryder Games has successfully funded and fulfilled four previous projects. We learn more and more with each experience. Our goal is to get the games to you, our supporters, as quickly as possible.
There are the usual risks of printing, shipping, customs, and other unintended delays, but you can be sure we WILL deliver the games to you as promised.
A few remarks we want to share with you regarding our approach for our projects, including this one.
1. Communication is of the utmost importance to us. Please ask any and all questions and we will answer as quickly as possible.
2. We have planned out the goals for this project, but feel strongly about not overextending ourselves for the sake of more $. If we are so fortunate to run through our planned stretch reward offerings prior to the end of the project we will not add more on the fly. This will help us stay within our capabilities, our budget, and the timeline for delivery. You don't have to look far for other projects that overextend; which only ties up more backers' money and delays delivery.
3. Your comments and feedback are REALLY important to us. If you have an idea, concern, or compliment, please share it with us! We can't promise to implement every idea that comes our way, but we will certainly consider each one!
4. We pledge to keep a positive attitude regardless of the success or failure of this project.
5. To have fun! Kickstarter projects can be stressful, but Saloon Tycoon is a game and the most important thing is to have FUN!
